Best instructional on RU-vid. Remember you must construct the wire tool with 2mm wire no thicker no thinner, 2.0mm. You must grind the tips of the wire at 45-60 degree and PUSH both ends ALL the way in. Then push further in and pull tumbler out. Super easy after you do it once

What do you mean your ignition cylinder was sticking I just bought a w 124 but I have arthritis in hands and found it hard to turn ignition mine does not stick just feels stiff to turn or am I getting weak old age lol

Were you able to make the new key to work for the door locks ,the trunk, when I had a W116,280 SE, I had the trunk lock changed,so when they put the lock in I was able to use it for the ignition, & the doors, just wondering if you were able to do the same.

I need to order a trunk lock cylinder for it. Someone has changed it sadly... The key doesn’t work on it. But it works on the doors and glove box as well as ignition. Just not the trunk

@@VITOSGARAGE according to a locksmith, I.believe it can be done, you have to check with the bearings, I don*t know if it applies to your car, but it can be done from what they told me please check and see,good luck.

@@VITOSGARAGE i don't know if this applies to w201 but for W124 there are two types of keys. One key is the master key. This key can open anything, trunk, doors, glovebox, ignition lock. The second valet key used for only opening doors and ignition. It will NOT open trunk or glove box.

Is that what they would consider a security key,not a regular car key, because the way they make it, like before it was a simple car key but now I think it has 3 cuts, which is different from the regular car leys.

I am pretty sure this car has one regular key and no valet keys. But I may be wrong. Either way, I just asked them to cut me a new key and that’s it. I wanted the key and lock tumbler to be original

I’m having the same issues. Where the key doesn’t turn. How did you get the old tumbler out without the key working?

You need to be able to turn the key to remove the tumbler. Spray WD-40 in there, wiggle the key etc. Try to make it turn!

My ignition lock cylinder was stuck couple years ago, had to transport my 190 to official MB dealership (because I thought they will be able to provide me with the cylinder combination matching other keys). Hell no, they've installed W124 wide key cylinder lock and now I have two keys.

Great video Vito! I saw a video from Ken at Mercedes source saying these tumblers are not being made anymore. Did Mercedes Give you a hard time? I asked Mercedes for a new key for my 1996 S500 They told me no way. lol I could not believe it, I would have to send a letter to Germany and petition them on why i needed a new key. because apparently there are only 3 or 4 left keys for the W140's in the world and they will not ,make any new ones. So i ended up installing an aftermarket alarm that works well with the cars factory alarm. I enjoy the simplicity of the older cars much better when it comes to things like this

The key and tumbler was super easy to get. No hard time. Everything was done and ready for a pickup in 4 days or so. I just needed to show a proof of ownership.

VITO wher you get tumblet.and key At mercedes dealer I heave Valley imports in my city They sell parts for European Cars maby they can cut tumbler and key for my benz

You can ask them. Dealership is the easiest. I like everything original and I wanted to have the same key operate all the locks instead of having multiple keys with one opening the doors and the other starting the engine..

@@robertlopez616 Unfortunately i was not able to get anything from Mercedes. I did have two keys cut at a locksmith and they are working great. Luckily my car is pre-immobilizer chip, which can go bad in the later key fobs.

I needed to get a replacement key for my 1999 R179 SLK a couple of years ago and it was a total nightmare with the Mercedes dealer having to prove ownership with reg documents etc. and very expensive.😱

Really? It’s super easy in USA. I don’t understand how they gave you a hard time.. it’s your car and if the key stops working, they need to help you out. Especially the Smart Key like in your R179

The tumbler is A 201 460 02 04. But you need to have it cut to your specific VIN number

I'm just having this sticky ignition problem crop up on my 91 190e, dealership says it can't cut new keys for the car, so getting a new tumbler with the key that matches my existing keys is a no go. i do have a locksmith that can cut one for the car for 140$. going to probably just have to have 2 keys one for ignition and one for the doors and trunk.

Just watched bro. Have same problems. Lost all my keys. Had to buy a new ingnition just so i could start and run it. But all doorlocks, glove compartment and trunk.. no keys. I live in the Philippines. Would a.friend from there can get me some original keys and tumbler? Hope you can help me out. Such a pain losing it. Thanks bro!

In USA, you have to go to the dealership and provide them your ID and proof of ownership and they cut the key according to your VIN number. I am assuming it’s the same process in the Philippines. I usually make copies of my keys so I’ll never have to worry about losing them. But because you lost the key, you can’t make a copy. You will have to go to the dealership and ask them to cut you the key. There’s another option: you can look for a locksmith and sometimes locksmith can make a new key if you bring them your ignition lock cylinder, trunk lock cylinder or front door lock. You’ll just have to order a blank key from eBay and bring everything to locksmith so they can cut it. The final option is to order an entire set of door locks, trunk and glove box locks as well as the ignition lock cylinder with keys from eBay. In that case you’d have to change everything
