I thought it was going to be significantly more given the weight increases in F1. I guess the super capacitor is significantly lighter than a traditional battery.

@@flyingphoenix113exactly. It's much lighter than your traditional lithium ion battery pack, and discharges power as fast as it recharges which is also rapid. Only problem is it doesn't store as much as it's battery equivalent.

Batteries energy density sucks compared to dinosaur power. So stupid. Add 100 lbs for momenntary torque boost. I love the magnesium, just like the old bugs blocks. Makes for a great looking fire. Throw in a battery. You get the heat of a thousand suns. Looking forward to the fireworks

This super capacitor was done seems like 10 years ago by Porsche at Le Mans… Does anyone but Honda even care? I know I don’t. Super pumped for more ovals though. I’m glad INDYCAR is back racing but it’s hard to overlook the drastic need for a new direction.

Indy Car is so much better than F1. Much more competitive with new winner in practically every race unlike F1 where one driver wins every race. Netflix needs to do series on IndyCar.

Welcome the 2024 (and beyond) Indycar season, the Formula 1 Light series. by the way, by going from aluminum to magnesium they made the car 30 pounds lighter and the team's wallets lighter too. smdh

Enjoy not having hybridisation while it lasts Indycar. I recall Martin Brundle’s comment during the Bahrain GP last weekend in which he declared that the introduction of the turbo hybrids into F1 was one of the worst decisions in the sport’s history. Again, Indycar should stop following F1. Do you’re own thing. Have proper open wheel, open cockpit, normally aspirated engines, and you’ll get the audience disillusioned with F1.

Not a huge fan of using a flammable metal on a race car. Sure the risk, is low, given that it would take a significant fire like Grosjean famous crash, but having a material that blows a shower of sparks back at you when you hit it with a water stream is less than ideal! (yes, I have seen it myself with magnesium in a road car transmission - it was impressive!)

It's purely braking-based regen, with no MGU-H, so it won't affect the sound at all.

Perhaps you'd be gracious enough to post the expected price increase, from last season to now? Additionally... How much is "alot of money", according to you? Are any teams at risk of folding, because they are unable to afford the new costs? If you think it is "stupid and wasteful", do you have any alternatives that will be "smarter and more efficient"?

Hybrid powertrains . . . the INVISIBLE, EXPENSIVE change that absolutely nobody but Honda cares about. If IndyCar were going to spend money and risk the quality of the racing, I wish they had done something the casual fan can see . . . NEW BODYWORK! Politics makes people do incredibly STUPID things, these days . . . and IndyCar is clearly not immune. Will IndyCar EVER bring the cars forward in a meaningful way from 2012?

Sorry guys, but I have no idea who the drivers are or where they came from. And I haven't cared about the Indy 500 since Fittipaldi and the milk snub. Yeah, he was a good shoe but... As far as magnesium, as stated by others, have you ever put out one of those fires? I have, not fun. Maybe the answer to a question nobody asked. (Accept the ones selling the parts)

Who, or what is supposed to be placated by the idea of a hybrid race car? The Greens? Really, WTF? Sustainable fuels, OK, sorta. But a tiny displacement turbo V6 with hybrid? Snore. It ruined F1, now it’s our turn in the barrel. Who thinks this bs up, the lawyers?

Hybrid, 5 years too late to the game Indycar. Now, as other series are looking ahead, away from hybrid and into sustainable fuels, possibly back to larger displacement power units.
