Kia’s eNiro really shook things up in the electric car market when it was launched in 2019. It had a decent range, space for a family and was affordable. In fact, its biggest problem was availability.
Those early buyers had to wait more than a year to get a car. Is the EV6 worth waiting for too? Certainly it is eagerly anticipated, if our clicks and comment section is anything to go by. Attracted by an impressive set of specifications, Kia already has a long list of potential punters. But is worth going for? Ginny Buckley finds out

Saw this car recently at a Kia dealer event. The reason I went to see was because of it’s towing capacity of 1600kg - it would actually tow my caravan, which the iPace definitely would not! Can’t wait for the caravan testers to get their hands on one and put it through it’s paces. I just might be persuaded to give up my Discovery!

@@donjuan150 I agree just like an ice cars range. In future the cars will have big enough ranges to manage that especially if the caravan has an on board battery to help the car.

@@donjuan150 Hitching a caravan on the back of an ICE vehicle also increases it's fuel consumption. The increases in the UK's charging infrastructure will make this much less of an issue than it might currently be..

It's a great car. But I still prefer the interior and exterior look of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Which I purchased. But so good to have the choice

Yeh this car is too big for me , but i prefer the cleaner interior of the Ioniq. Im waiting for the smaller version of these two cars as my likely next one.

SAF!!! I have to say I’m in love with the Ioniq 5 BUT the EV6 is tempting me strongly. The only issue will be price in Australia where our government prefers huge gas guzzlers (which they give business tax breaks for) but not EV’s!!! Time to move to New Zealand I think. The Koreans are killing the Japanese who seem to resolutely refuse to engage in the EV market at all. The sleeping giant is China and BYD there is producing some amazing vehicles. America, Europe and Japan are so far behind Korea and China it’s not even a race!

Thank you for this nice review about the EV6 - it is an amazing Car. I saw it just a few days ago at my local KIA dealer. Had a little time to sit inside and it felt great. It will defenetly be my next car - I am looking forward.

Have to say I prefer not to have a flat floor in the front - any luggage/handbag etc stored at the passenger's feet is better contained in that side of the car.

Great review and really like the design of this car. The stats are also very impressive and I'm very much looking forward to getting a test drive once this becomes available in the UK. I completely agree with your summary ...... this and the Ioniq 5 are really wonderful alternatives to pretty much every other mainstream legacy auto manufacturers in the world. I think even world leaderTesla may be looking over their shoulder and wondering what's coming next!

The Ioniq 5 and EV6 offer a refreshing alternative to the Tesla's, and in many respects are a little more practical. Tesla's edge in the charging network is being slowly eroded - in the UK at least - by the likes of Gridserve, whom are planning (and now building) a large network of charging hubs throughout the UK's road system. And if most of these sites (100 are planned) offer similar facilities to their first Braintree, Essex site, with almost 40 chargers - rated from 22kw up to 350kw - then Tesla's Supercharger advantage won't necessarily be Top Dog anymore..

Hi there, great review I loved it. Just one observation? It seems to me that this should be perceived as in the luxury or executive class and as such it's price and value are amazing! How much does an I-Pace to the same spec cost ? Does this Kia have the same characteristic (as it's sister models) re range ie does it deliver it's promised range or not? With the I-Pace when used in normal model with aircon on and driven at normal (but legal) speeds it's range looks very modest.

Nice review. Please compare drive feel, etc with BMW i4 & Tesla 3. 47k is about 65kUS. Close to BMW territory.

I test drove one yesterday. The production version is deeply impressive, really well made and the interior is top notch. I’m not sure I agree that it is a big car, my BMW 6 series is longer but has way less space inside. I’ve got a GT on order.

I have a GT Line, RWD. I am very very impressed. Quite, even with the smaller motor quick, handles nicely. Gets very close to the WLTP numbers and it’s a real head turner. Parked I next to to a Bentley Continental. Whose owner came and waxed lyrical about its looks.

I was tempted to order the EV6 and jumped ship to the Ioniq 5 as soon as I saw it in the metal. The fact the Ioniq 5 has a lot less hideous piano black helped too. Please manufacturers no more Piano black.

Can't wait to test drive it. The lease on my iPace runs out at the end of the year, and this is one of the favourites to replace it :D Will be a downgrade in some ways (looks and handling), but should make up for it with range, charging speed, infotainment and general equipment levels. Ioniq5 is on the short list as is the Q4 e-tron and possibly the Skoda Enyaq. ID4 is off due to the interior, XC40 and Polestar 2 due to internal space, iX3 due to rear wheel drive only (Norway...), EQC for range, Mach E for not having roof rack option (kayaks on the tow bar anyone...?). I'm actually enjoying this period of looking and testing :) The only thing I do know is that it will be a full electric one next time too

This should make VW sit up and think. Is it too big for the supermarket increasingly smaller parking spaces? I think we all know the answer to that one! A good review that gives just enough information to make you want to go and look for yourself. Well done.

A really stunning vehicle - why would anyone go for a Tesla or high-end German EV. I really like this! Mind you Ginny in 50 years of driving I have never found the need to size a car on if it will carry a wardrobe.

I'm torn. I love the EV6 AND the Ioniq 5. We're looking for a slightly larger vehicle when our e-Niro goes back, and either of these two seem pretty good. It'll come down to the test drive and the price methinks.

Few minor things as a family car. ISOFIX on front, some places to hang shopping bags and boot cover should be higher. It changes nothing, I want one, very much !! Waiting for test drive in Poland :)

Beautiful looking car though rather pricey . Range is up there with the best . I was blown away with the Ioniq5 . Take it or leave it this is where motoring is going .

i'm worried about the porthole for visibility out the back but most cars seem to be going this way anyway. yes it looks a bit like the aston martin 4x4 at the back but i'm not sure if thats a good thing or not.

Dear Kia, after you’ve read all the reviews (good company like that 😁👍). The steering wheel is a bit of a let down it needs to be more futuristic 😉, also could the windscreen wipers be swapped to a clap hand action, big pieces of glass like that windscreen clear better with clap hand wipers

I think I've worked out why the clapping wipers (which I much prefer as they clear more of the screen that the driver sees and look nester when stowed) aren't more widely used. Most new cars have a camera behind the centre mirror for lane assist and speed limit sign monitoring. The wipers therefore have to clear that bit which is where clapping wipers miss. Edit And my wish list: Please can we have a version that's not a pseudo SUV and have a setting which defaults regenerative braking to one pedal driving?

Ioniq every time for me; that enclosed interior just seems bonkers in an ev. I think the Hyundai styling will age better as well.

How many times can you fit a Ford advert in???? I am up to 6 so far and only half way! I appreciate its how all is paid for but surely the placement could be better like all at the beginning or beginning middle and end perhaps. Really like the car though. Thanks

Looks great until you see its back end. Which I what most other drivers see! I prefer this to the Ioniq 5. However my main issue is it’s price at £47k. That’s putting a Kia in line with Tesla model 3 long range prices, which are in line with BMW 3 series for competition. Yes it’s a great car but it’s also a Kia. And that matters a lot when you talk this price bracket….……..

The Ioniq 5 has the better charge port cover - the EV6's looks like a proper car park bag snagger. How much to replace one that gets snapped off...?! Also, these three (Genesis included) are bloomin' huge! Saw an Ioniq 5 in Durham yesterday, followed by a classic Mini Cooper - the difference in size was comical, and both just had one person in. It looked like the Mini could fit in the Ioniq 5's boot. However, EV6 wins it for me on looks, the Ioniq 5 for calmness inside - the Genesis looks like it takes the roofline and X6-alike rear too far.

I'm really jealous of the environment of European EV owners or drivers.. In Korea, with full of apartment, EV chargers are not easily being distributed because of limited space. Coming to think of North America or Europe, there are bunch of extra space for building new EV chargers..

I don't find the rear end of this offensive - but neither do I find it Kyliesque. Compared to the Ioniq 5 I prefer the Hyundai's looks and packaging. But all reviews say it's handling and springing is insipid . So maybe a wait for the N version?

This is pretty much a cornerstone EV, in the same way the Jaguar iPace was. It marks a turning point in EV development, and points to the way things are heading. This will steal sales from Tesla, as will the Ioniq 5. Personally I prefer the Ioniq, but that said I've driven neither of them. A drive can be rather influential.........

When Kia announced that they're going full on electric, my thoughts were that they're bitten more than they can chew. But no: Kia is becoming more and more attractive besides being sensible. (That they've always been.)

Excellent review by a beautiful lady and the car look ok two, how ever i would like the price of electric vehicles to come down in price to a more affordable level for some people.
