Yeah and then they threw in a fire axe as his melee, seems like an afterthought. Sucks cause they really went all in on presentation but the delivery was lackluster.

I would’ve loved a pig-like ability to just really quickly run up to a survivor to attack them, but running on all 4s like a crab or spider 😂 but I guess it would just be like oni… or hillbilly… or blight… rip

It makes a lot more sense but it still ruins the immersion. Did we really need a sci-fi supernatural dredge? His power still feels out of place and rushed. Especially because the trailers led us to believe he was going to be a folklore/creepy pasta killer with a unique ability. It’s just just a copy and paste of every other killer with ranged attacks

Hell one of the most famous creepy pastas is the Russian sleep experiment. Watch out along those woods, the government put something strange in a man and he’s never been the same sense. I think that fits the bill pretty well. The power itself works fine, they had a bunch of directions they could have gone with. My theory is that since we’ve had a couple melee killers they wanted something weird to mix it up.

I can see your point and agree. The power seems out of place for something whose whole thematic is fear and facing that fear. But I think that from a design standpoint it's kind of interesting? The whole point of this character is the unknown and there's something deeply unsettling about the uncanny valley between what is known and something that is merely *imitating it* . We see a humanoid figure and it gleefully betrays all expectation with its sudden inhuman and jointless movements that belie that this *thing* - whatever it is - has merely adopted this shape to further its goals. The idea that this thing has a completely unknown biology despite its somewhat familiar form is a tempting direction for its design with the unknown in mind.

I hoped this would get me back into the game but really? The most important part of a killer is the ability and they absolutely fumbled even if it turns out to be s tier how do you take a crawling pale husk of a person that can mimic voices of an unknown origin and think “yeah and he attacks his victims with a grenade launcher” I agree though this is probably my favorite original killer design shame the ability assures I’m never buying this thing

Hate to be cynical, but it seems like the devs had this power idea already made and they just added it to this design Like the design and gameplay teams were working on two different things. Making an in-theme killer power from scratch would’ve taken too much time and they were on a deadline

So much wasted potential. They could’ve done so many things to make him really scary to play against. Grenade launcher is lame, I want dbd to be scary again

@@cornpop838 The killer has an impostor/mimic theme going for it so everyone thinks it MUST be inspired or copied from The Thing, despite it's lore and appearance stating otherwise lol They always need to compare it to other things. I'm not denying that they maybe got inspiration from The Thing amongst other sources, but it's still an original creation and I think it's neat

I'm getting tired of these rehash of perks. Unbound is fine because you can have synergies with stuff like bamboozle or superior anatomy. But the other two? The token perk is aight as an option, I guess, but I don't think people will stop bringing pop for it. And Trail of Torment knockoff is just... ugh. Horrible. I love the idea of perks that transfer the terror radius, but this could have gotten some more thought. I would have done it so it activates on breakable objects OTHER than gens.

Yea even as someone who mostly plays killer i really like this idea because it gives survivors another side objective but this time it's worth the reward. I also like the fact that it has a lot of risk reward since 120 seconds is not a short time and although swfs will probably abuse the speeding up i don't really mind, since to make it balanced around swfs it would need to be gutted which i dont want for the simple reason that this is for the first time since BOONS all the way back with mikeala that they added a new type of perk

i cant wait to find my teammates wasting there time doign this. when they could of just done a gen. and it would be 100x faster

how it is worth the reward lol. 15 for 2 minutes. even if all gens (at the start of the game) would only be 105 gen progresssion. not worth it in the slightest. this is literally only good if theres 4 of them with the perk. and four of them in the basement. and if thats the case they lose@@SirTriton

They're gonna have to bite the bullet and do it eventually. Everyone has wanted it for years. Half the killers on the roster aren't meta or 100% viable. We all know a mimicking killer wouldn't be 100% viable either... but it would be fun as hell. More fun than a damn grenade launcher imo.

So far invocation perks suck lol. It’s the new self care 120 seconds for 15 seconds is never worth it. You can finish a gen in that amount of time. The idea is nice, the execution is the best killer perk in the game

for the first few weeks killers are just gonna go basement and put a stop to that, and with perks like oppression that like 15 seconde of progress is gonna just go for nothing

Dredge was such a great original chapter that no one plays it. Such a great original chapter that it caused the largest drop in the player base the following month after its release: 49k players in june 2022. 36k players in July 2022

@@ONELETTERSHOR that’s not down to the chapter it was just down to the state of the game at the time, Dredge is amazing people just didn’t understand how to properly play him at the time

I think the axe could’ve worked had it been implemented into the lore, like for example, instead of the killing someone’s in a tent, he could’ve killed a group of like lumberjacks in the woods, and then the last shot would show an axe in the tree or something, and boom he has an axe. And also it would’ve played well into incorporating a lumberjack skin for him. For me, the axe feels in place because the killer was set up as a killer who mirrors humans and their behaviors to hunt them down. So by using a man-made weapon it wouldn’t have been so peculiar, in fact it could’ve been unsettling to think he was killing you with the weapon of his last victims. Unfortunately we got whatever his grenade launcher is, and while it objectively makes sense because it’s a parasite that uses the bodies of humans as hosts, (hence the “so hungry” voice line) it just feels like a copy and paste killer because they’ve already done it with the Hag, singularity, The dredge ect. and his ability feels so far-fetched from his design. It feels less folktale creepy, (as the trailer had set up) and more sci-fi supernatural. And I’m so done this because they really haven’t released a killer who isn’t sci-fi.

I totally agree with you. since the last teaser, i was speculating possible perks and abilities but didn't expect any of the real ones. I was genuinely peeved that they had a chance to make him a more animalistic killer (ie: Dredge, Alien, Demogorgon) but then they gave him an axe and a grenade launcher???? its so mind bogglingly confusing. I have no clue how the devs came to the conclusion that a skinwalker would know how to pick up and use human tools, let alone prefer using them over its own hands to kill its prey.

@@LazerAnimations The problem is that he isn’t a skinwalker. He’s supposed to be like some kind of parasite that uses humans as hosts. (Not like we haven’t seen that with the last 30 killers though.)

@@LazerAnimations actually its not meant to be a skinwalker. dbd released something saying that this is not supposed to be anything from native american folklore which includes skinwalker and wendigo. I will say my thoughts on the chapter while mixed lean towards the more positive side. I still think the unknown is still a interesting killer in dbd and it could possibly lead to the inclusion of a crawling killer or other killer concepts in the future as shown in how they managed to have the unknown crawl in the mori and lobby animations. the unknown seems to have a lot of weird features that make it seem like its alien in nature it to me feels like a mixture of found footage urban legend/folklore and humanoid alien and even the lore makes it seem like it is almost alien in nature.

@@PhysicallyAwake I see what you mean about the axe I can see where somewhere in its lore it stumbles onto a camp of people and then picks up the axe and learns to use it and then uses it on the camp and other victims. I think this chapter is still good I think it is mainly my fault for getting my hopes high for a crawling killer. Overall this is still a good chapter with a new interesting survivor a cool map that I can't wait to play on and a new killer to try out.

The Crooked Man would make for a really cool skin. David as a survivor skin would be neat but I don’t think he’d be distinct “enough” to warrant that

Because the killers' powers are innately way more unique and interactive? There's a ton a ton a ton of killers with 'exhaustion' power that involve speed boosts and cooldowns. Obviously the add-ons and powers are going to be where the big gameplay changes are bcs perks are shared between killers with vastly different applications.

But it would still be cool to get something global for all of them that could allow cool interactions with their already existing powers I know its not easy to make something balanced like this but it would be awesome to see some more innovation in terms of perks imo.
