NEW Kobalt 24 Volt Max Brushless Cordless Compact Router (LOWE'S FINALLY DID IT) 

Got mine for free by purchasing the battery combo kit for $129. Needed the batteries so I just took a chance and I have not been disappointed with that little thing. Love it. Love my Kobalt in general.

Purchased the XTR combo several weeks ago and as a homeowner/DIYer I LOVE this lineup. I am new to building projects and my Kobalt tos have been a pleasure to work with. I have been looking at this router as a future purchase to help me better my game, so thank you VCG for the review. Knowing you guys like the router helps me decide when I make that purchase. I love my kobalt tools, I hope Lowe’s really invests in the line and doesn’t try to push Craftsman cause it would be a huge mistake. If they would make some nailers and a packout style system (that doesn’t look corny and cheap) they would leave the pack behind, for the price and quality of tools, you just can’t beat it.

The Kobalt tool platform simply can’t be beat, I’ve had my set for over a year and they never disappoint. Just keep adding to the collection. This router is on the list.

Awesome video. I picked this router up with the current buy more save more deal going on. I've used it a few times already and it's a fantastic compact router. Very smooth with plenty of power. Great addition to my Kobalt tools.

I have one. I use it all the time. I installed my kitchen cabinets in my old and out of square house. The high point of the cabinets was so high that it made sense to bring it down. I have old oak floors from the early 1900. I routered down a half inch over an area of 2 square feet. The router did it on one battery. I was impressed. I also have the cordless vac. The router hooks up to the vac and i have a cordless dust freeish router setup.

I bought the 6 tool Kobalt kit with roller bag 13.5 months ago as I wanted to get into woodworking and building more around the house. Could not have been happier with my decision. Hitting above their price-point weight big time! Just wish they’d expanded their line quicker as I jumped on the handheld router and brad nailer from Ryobi out of necessity. Looking forward to the future tho and upgrading to the XTR line eventually.

I added the one of these little gems to my kobalt collection today, used it tonigjt and it worked flawlessly!!

I got the four tool package (drill driver, resip saw, and work light) for $200 a couple of months ago. GREAT tools. All do just what I need. I can't wait to pick up the new trim router!

Thanks Vince.. I’ve been wondering about the router. My entire power tool stock is Dewalt and Kobalt (mostly XTR). I have to say, I’m thoroughly impressed with what Kobalt has done with that XTR line. Everything I’ve used is an absolute beast in fit, finish, and performance. Hate to say it, but some of my XTR stuff absolutely stomps it’s Dewalt counterparts. This is painful for me to say because of what I paid for the black and yellow versions. But if I’m gonna be honest, maybe I can save the next guy a few bucks. Thanks for the vid and keep up the awesome work my friend!

I like the XTR tools, great performance for the price. The best part of Kobalt tools is that they don't have a dongle battery... unlike RYOBI which will be on my trash list as long as they have those crappy batteries that take up too much room in the tool box.

I've been using the Porter Cable brand for a while but they are getting old. I'm saving money to switch over to the Kobalt brand and since I'm a teen they are good priced tools for me to buy, also for when I get into the trades. Great video!

I love the Kobalt line of tools, I really wish Lowe's would stay true to their home brand and treat them with the same respect that Home Depot treats Husky. I think there's a good future in store for Kobalt, especially within their power tool line. I'm looking forward to see what they have in store (puns lmao) for us over the next year or two because so far they have been nothing less than impressive. My only critique is some of their hand tools are lacking in the quality standards set by their power tool line, and price. However I will happily deal with a slight drop in quality for a tool brand that I genuinely believe in. Honestly if they could just match Craftsman in quality I truly believe that Kobalt would soon be the dominant color in the isle, and thats not a far off goal to achieve.I really hope that Kobalt maintains this linear improvement and that it echoes across their whole product line.

Got the dewalt 18v version. I am very pleased with it. Do have the kobalt router table, that is a big beefy router in that joker. Lost the vacuum dust port though.

My first Kobalt was a compound mitre saw, under $129.00 on sale. After putting it through it paces, I started switching over to the Kobalt line of tools. More money in my pockets and couldn't care less about bragging rights.

I love Kobolt! Just wish they had this before I bought my Ryobi.

Bought one today, they had dewalt and metabo but this was identical almost and a better buy with two batteries and charger on sale, they threw in a free kobalt buffer/polisher! Can beat that, so yea, thanks for the review. I think kobalt is a good tool company at least for a few items now in their lineup!

I got the Kobalt router table combo for $99. It’s pretty good. Using only the best Diablo cutters.

I have been using them since the 24vlt came out. I am definitely bias but for the price i love them. The warrenty is what really makes my tools worth it. I tried the craftsman and did not like it at all. With just getting the lawnmower I can't imagine changing now they work really well for my purposes.

I like the LED lights, might have to pick one up. Those lights will make carving signs a lot easier.

I have an 80v Kobalt blower that I really like; so I'm not opposed to getting further into Kobalt tools. I'm invested in the Milwaukee line, and don't have a 24v Kobalt battery so I'd have to compare a Kobalt kit to a Milwaukee bare tool. I appreciate your great review. Really would have liked to hear how the feature set compares to the pro compact, cordless routers (a follow up, maybe?) Additionally, Kobalt batteries seem to be very expensive, and never on sale. These things would inform my decision of which to choose. Thanks, again. Update: Memorial Day Weekend. Got the "buy more, save more" deal with a sabre saw and 3/8 impact plus 2 batteries and charger. Impressive

if kobalt drops a brad nailer im buying the 5 tool xtr combo kit and the brad nailer i currently own milwaukee tools but i really want a cordless jigsaw, circular saw and brad nailer but those 3 combined cost 800 dollars for the 3 at milwaukee and i think the Kobalt circular saw is just a little worse than milwaukee so for 100 dollars less its worth iy

I like my Kobalt power tools. I would rather hear the tool working though rather than the music so i can hear how the tool sounds and if the motor is being stressed out. Looks like i might pick this one up

My Father is a big fan of Kolbat. Might just pick up this guy for his collection. But, the router top where you insert the battery needs to be revision. It looks like a battery on top of a batter.

@vcg Construction hey vince and the gang i went to my home depot today they are clearances out the corded stuff ... the mag 77 by skill is 160 not 199 and most other circular saws are at a lower price too ..

I miss Kobalt...I got a job in carpentry so I switched to Milwaukee. If Kobalt comes out with a framing nailer, I switch back!

I like my koblat tools. Im a little disheartened that lowes is pushing more and more craftsman in my area. Personally think kobalt has better quality. And definitely a better warranty. At least with the mechanics tools I buy.

I have used that router it's sweet better then ridgid octane version I am just saying don't eaiter ones but have a friend who has the ridgid for work uses it every day I don't need one everyday so I have a old school Craftsman plunge router made in the US ball bearing is professional got a long time ago from my father he got it new still runs I do the basic maintenance replace the car from brushes the bearings are perfect I use Bosch router bits but I don't need your own daily basis once in a while but I'm thinking of going cordless and I don't know if what I should do because I'm in ridgid's platform more then bosch I do have dewalt older Nicad tools a nice set like 23 years old most of it Vince @vcgconstruction

The biggest problem is kobalt is not consistent and compatible. I have 20v Kobalt tools, and the charger is dead. I cannot find replacement any more. If I buy 24v tools and they discontinue them, all tools will be garbage.

You should really consider getting rid of the ridiculous music when you’re running the router. It would have been nice to be able to hear how loud the unit is in operation.
