Strip clubs only serve water, $8 bottle, some in LV, NV and CA. Jacob Orth, former security, can work at Synn Beverly Hills (rhymes with Wynn) bar I read is good, if full nudity = booze. .
the Officer shortage surprises me..i applied to LVMPD back in 2000, but there were 700+ applicants for 70 positions, i made the alternate list ( if enough people drop out, you can get into the Academy ), but never got selected. Vegas USED to be the best paying, best benefits paying City in the country. i can only imagine the City has reduced benefits, pensions, and salary, to "Save" money, meanwhile multi billion dollar event complexes paid for in part by the City ( I.E. - Taxpayers ) is JUST FINE.. yea,, they must have really pissed on Police pay and benefits, to be in such dire need NOW, compared to 20 yrs ago.. maybe you can find a pay comparison thru the years.. my oldest Bro, retired in 2002, and makes more in retirement, than i do full time, a year. love to see if you can dig up a pay/benefits schedule, from 1970., '80, '90, 2000, 2010, 2020... just a thought.
@@Fletch001 👍 What you said‼️ And lots of ‘influencers’ on YT who shill for the hotels/casino’s/restaurants. (That in no way is a reflection on Jacob who is a honest broker of the truth as he sees it!)
Lol, MGM properties resort fees are going up. Plus, free parking is slowly going away. The only way to not pay these fees is to have a certain status - which put millions of folks at risk because of the hackings. , I'll say resort fees will disappear when baggage fees disappear on airlines and interest rates drop to 5% on credit cards. 😕
What I constantly hear from tourists who don't want to come back to Vegas ever again are the homeless, sky-high prices and sales tax, and the marijuana smoke. Love this video Jacob!
Follow the money. I'd be willing to bet that every person on the Clark County Commission who backed F1 has a bit more money in their pockets than they did before.
The Clark County is totally corrupt and are the lap dog of the casino mob bosses and now F-1. Twenty or so years ago, a number of commissioners were sent to jail for corruption. They certainly don't do a whole lot for the voters. One reason why HOA's are so common here .
Absolutely! 6 people allowed whatever F1 wanted. Follow the money for sure! There is still a very unsafe bridge up at Ellis Island corner that should have been taken down but F1 is just letting it stand, seeing as they are gonna be back in just a few months to rip apart the city again. That is NOT a permanent bridge! Scary that the "6 people" are not making them install a real bridge, going through the same building permits everyone else has go through, to make it a safe bridge. F1 has bought this 6 person committee to do whatever they want. I would be voting those people OUT asap.
Vegas used to be a value vacation with gambling. You could get low price food, drinks and rooms. Now its 20+ bucks for a burger in a hotel! They have priced out a lot of people who will now spend their money on better deals in other places in the states.
It's corporatism 101. Come in, take control, then with no major competition, you jack up the prices. Others around see the dollar signs incoming & they join suit looking to get their slice of the pie as well.
Dude, I love your videos, and this one is great because you're putting in some critical thinking work as a local, and you're right on with your takes. Good insight and analysis! Much appreciated from another local.
The times I have visited, I have not seen people blocking the cross-overs. Yes, a small group of people would stop, or setup for sales, but they didn't block (stop) tariff from crossing.
Good work, as always. Had a conversation with a local journalist that said the hands off approach to homeless population comes from the Federal Government, which I thought was interesting.
I was homeless in Las Vegas briefly. It's actually quite safe and there are plenty of shelters for young people, also they sign you up for medicaid within 2 weeks
Hey Jacob, thanks for covering news worthy topics and not just making another video on CES or a new hotel like many other content creators…your content is my go to for real local news. Thank you for the great work.
As an international who has visited Vegas twice, it now just seems no different from any other place with a casino. And worst of all, it just seems like a total shakedown from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. I can go to the casino in my home town and not feel like every time I do anything, someone is trying to stick their hand in my pocket.
There are either people sleeping on the walkway, stopping for a photo, hustlers running gambling stands, or what I think it is to stop people from watching Formula One races.
I always just assumed that the pedestrian walkway thing was always due to F1. They tried to put those blocking things on the glass to prevent people from seeing anything and they got ripped down almost immediately. Then right after the race, they proposed the ban on stopping on the walkways.
Jacob I cave been to Vehas for years both as a child and a now as an adult. I remember those coupon books you used to get at check in that had match play coupons, specials on buffets, drinks, and free play. That’s when Vegas had cheap food and was a value destination that you didn’t mind loosing because you got much else discounted or free. Will those days ever return?
@@irwfcm They still had these things after the mafia was gone, but the corporations were cutting back slowly. The cutbacks accelerated in the last 10-20 years with a huge jump during the shutdown in 2020.
You can get comped rooms, food, free play, and gifts if you are a repeat visitor.. I go 3 0r 4 times a year and have not paid for a room in 25 years. Same with Laughlin. One casino gives such good comps I have $500 worth of non expiring food coupons. And no you do not need to be a high roller My brother and I bet between 40 cents and $1 per spin. Comped rooms, free play and food coupons.
Brother, the way you report the news is WAY better and any news reporter on the tv networks ! The material you put out is way easier to digest than the way TV says it. You held my attention in way TV would never and I’d be like BLEH i don’t care otherwise
If you replace a street crossing at street level with an over head then you are required ro use it to cross the street with no other pedestrian option. Those crossings should not be treated like a sidewalk but a street crossing. Passing the law would help the police to legally remove someone with less potential for valid lawsuits. Also, most of those pedestrian crossings have cameras that can be monitored by police so if someone obviously is sleeping or camping out, they can be identified and removed after sending an officer. The law appears to be for the people who regularly stay on them for hours at a time and nit for people stopping to take pictures etc. Also, homelessness and drug related crimes are on the increase so now is the time to make it easier for the police to do their jobs even when they are shorthanded.
Another great job Jacob. If F1 was a success, it was successful to a handful of folks that made an obscene amount of money because of F1. The VAST majority of locals and tourists were inconvenienced for months. Any thought that the "tax revenue" generated by F1 will have a positive impact on the safety or quality of life for anyone that lives in, or visits, Las Vegas is misguided at best.
Been two years since my Grand Jury duty. Last day the Judge thanked us and I believe he said it hasn't increased in KY since the 70's. A bankbreaking $12/day. The part of solitary confinement was very close word to word in the use of restraints in a hospital setting.
Holy crap!!! State employees get 8 weeks of paid vacation!!!! Wonder how much paid sick time they get. It’s always easy to pay for stuff with other people’s money
uhh try listening to the video again- they get 8 weeks of family leave. I.e you have a kid. Don't even know what you're talking about, but can't wait to throw shade.
I was just in Vegas the 4th to the 8th and on the strip the whole weekend I only saw maybe 4 homeless people. I was wondering what happened to all of them. Even on Fremont I hardly saw any.
Thank you Jacob , always enjoy your thorough and straight forward videos. I agree F1 is driving too much power there in Vegas. It will be interesting to see how the next couple of years go with it. We have been going the week of Thanksgiving for a couple years now for my birthday but seeing the chaos in the aftermath of the race will most likely change that going forward. 😢
Vegas takes the hit now with f1 only to win later on. Vegas and locals will win in the long run. But yeah Vegas had to kiss a ss on the front side to bring the mula!!!! $$$$$
I hate the Homeless people are hanging out on the Strip. In front of Flamingo, the Linq and Harrahs. It disgusting and also don’t feel safe at all. Another problem are the vendors and people playing Music in front of Bellagio. It makes it look cheap and it clogs up the area because people stop to stare in the middle is the sidewalk. They need to clean that up and free up space to walk!!
I agree with what you are saying about the pedestrian bridges. Poll residents and visitors and ask them where they would rather have more police presence? Quick question since the strip is not within the city boundaries. The police are Clark Country Sheriffs but do metro help out too?
I was hit and by an illegal driver 5 nights ago. Found the runner. Called 911. They didn't have time to come. Grand theft auto and hit and run. No license plates on his car. Vegas Baby Vegas.
LMFAO at the pedestrian bridges law. As if they can say you can legally exercise your 1A at the street/walkway 5ft to the right but can't on the bridge 5ft to your left... 🤣🤣🤣. Loitering is an entirely different issue. This law is F'ed from day 1 after the first lawsuit from a rich tourist is filed.
Wasn't there a time....when NEVADA had ZERO SALES TAX......on all purchases.....?? Guess the $$$ from Gaming Revenue.....isn't AS GOOD......as it once was.....??
I've been going to LV NASCAR for years now. By the way that's OFF the strip. Last year the strip had that cool look you see around San Quetin. I'm now planning to avoid LV for at least 6 weeks before and after F1. Probably skip October 20th Nascar this year. Getting to the airport on time was cutting it too close last year.
When I cross those pedestrian bridges I don’t want to hear loud, obnoxious “musicians”, be peddled refilled water bottles, or see homeless sleeping / lying down. The bridges should be OPEN, not staggered with randoms here and there. Just people walking, and/or pausing for a few seconds to snap a photo….then keep walking. …..the THEME here is walking. 🤔🤷🏼♂️
@occamsrazorblade There aren’t enough officers, for sure. HOPEFULLY if there were an officer around, they’d review each possible “infraction” one by one. For instance, is that group just stopping for a minute to take pictures, and then moving on……or are they camping out, and then sitting? Is that person just stopping for a selfie…or are they setting up a “music” area, and staying put? It’s all a “case by case” situation, hopefully. 🤷🏼♂️
Great as always Jacob, thanks for your focus on our homeless issues on the strip. I think we all would appreciate more resources dedicated to the problem, but I remain skeptical of the government's stated inability to address the problem due to lack of resources. Look at how the homeless problem virtually evaporated on the strip during F1, and watch how the homeless will again magically disappear during Superbowl week. It's not that those in charge can't address the issue, its that they only choose to handle the problem when the wealthy and privileged powerful are affected. Average middle class tourists and families on vacation from all over the nation and the world see first hand how Vegas really cares about it's perception and the appearance of the strip, as they step over sleeping homeless and deal with aggressive panhandling vagrants throughout the year.
The bridge ordinance will never be effective because there aren't enough officers to enforce it. I see more homeless on the street than on the bridges. And most of the sellers aren't on the bridges but by the escalators to get up to the bridges.
I USED to vote blue. If I ever do move to another city I would never want it to be like what has transpired in New York City. Like Killer Mike said, "Don't vote for people, vote for policy." 🇺🇲😎👊
Wow, here in Texas you only get $5.00 for Jury duty. Thats awesome about the breast cancer benefits. I got breast cancer in 2020 and even with insurance I am still recovering financially. Imagine have 5 different doctors, you have to go to multiple times a week. Have to pay co-pays for visits and each scans/x-rays they do. Plus medications. Treatment and surgery is usually a couple years. Luckily here in Austin, TX our F1 track is separated out away from the city. But most locals cant afford to go. Alot if businesses lose money unless they are rented out. But they are making efforts to do family events at the race trace. I'm moving to Nevada in summer. It will be interesting..especially the expensive gas prices.
Hey brother. Big fan. Where would you suggest for someone that wants to come for 4 months ? Like a laid back kinda Vegas place? Somewhere with movie theaters and things to do. just somewhere chill.
Love the icon for the IDs. Its so smart I don't see why every state doesn't have that option for deaf or hard to hear/communicate individuals! The strip has gotten SO bad! The homeless population keeps growing (all over the valley for that matter) and nothing done about it, it's all for show. Idk what's worse that or the rise in scammers. Getting gross out there.
Aside from the cost of a budget trip to Vegas having doubled since I went there last, I'm not going to Nevada as long as Lombardo is governor. And I'm waiting for apologies for the mandates and legislation stopping it from happening again. So I guess I'll never spend money in NV again.
Just back from Las Vegas darts open. I did notice the lack of Police compared to other major cities in the UK and Europe. Never seen any of the cup scammers unlike Paris where they seem to be at all the major tourist attractions. F1 should only be raced on a purpose built track out of town like most countries who hold F1 been to Silverstone a few times in the early 90s in the middle of nowhere.
It's funny you mentioned the pedestrian bridge law, and that it's not for tourist stopping to take a photo to be arrested, because Miles to Memories thinks otherwise lol. Also, have you heard anything about the total net profit for F1 yet?
I mean, if you're in prison, solitary confinement sounds like a really good thing. It might be boring, but at least you'll be able to, you know, sit down without pain ...
