I had an 80s Bosch system briefly in a 1987 Alfa Spyder. Only got to enjoy it for most of 2005 until the clutch went out. Then life got in the way until 2012 when I pulled the drivetrain. Life got in the way again and I sold the disassembled basketcase on Ebay for $800 in 2015. Got curious a couple days ago and contacted that buyer. Learned he's let it sit in a barn as he drug it home. Tempted to see if he'd sell it back for what he paid but I just got the Miata back in March and don't want to be........greedy.

I pass 3 VW Scirocco parked at an old petrol station when I'm on way to work one as a mad wide body kit going on the other got a drug fuel trip paint job and the last isn't modified at all. When ever doors are opened to the garage you can see lot more old VW. Best bit is in a window you can see a VW Golf GTi MK1 covered in dust.

Oh man, reminds me of the days of working on my 91 Jetta GLI 16v. Was such a giant pain to set tension to those belts Have you guys looked into converting it to the 8v ABA style serpentine belt setup? I always wanted to do that to my old car.

I prefer the MK1 Scirocco to the MK2 though the stick in the MK2 is superior.

That power steering system is a shitshow. I retrofitted the power steering onto my girlfriend's mk1 scirocco, the local junkyard had everything I needed but doesn't allow parts to be pulled in the yard and charges an arm and a leg. So that car got crushed before I could buy parts lol. I ended up only getting the rack and pump/resorvoir. Only after I dug in did I realize I also needed the U joint shaft, shifter bracket, and all accessories (yes, all). I ended up just making spacers to space off a second crank pulley and space out the PS pump pulley so I could run the rest of the stock accessory drive. I used the lower U joint from a 2017 camry (it's actually the 'murica spline 36 spline .75" like a saginaw gearbox, etc) and just chopped the stock shift bracket to work with the bigger rack.

I have a feeling 3rd gen Scirocco will be classic as well. Especially the smooth lined pre facelift ones.

I own a 1990 GT II (Scirocco Mk2), which turned to a Oldtimer status here in Germany, after reached an age of 30 or older. Drove 3 Mk1 Scirocco's during my High School and College times, BUT all Scirocvo's got eaten up by rust. 70ties metal quality....no chance to fix the car bodies for an college guy without an profi garage :( The Mk2 Scirocco's came with a better car body metal quality and all you have to do was, maintenance the mechanics. Which you can do in an average home garage! Would love to have an 16V white coloured Scirocco for every day driving. Many greetings from capital city of Hannover, Lower Saxony, Germany.

I love the truth about Ferrari. I mean the old man said he made road cars for morons so he could go racing. Aside from the lunacy of McLaren who has the worst service dept on earth, I mean worse than merc all day. They can't even get an order right. I follow speed phenom, and they took 4 tries and 5 months to get is Senna right. They just couldn't get the right seats or color and then it wouldn't even start. Yeah, that makes me want one. I live in Appollo beach I see 2 650's and 1 P1 almost every day. the P1 owner seems to have the most reliable car but he says the service is absolutely stupid beyond measure. Funny, my neighbors ACR starts every time and he can change his own oil. My GT500 does too and I can do all the work on it too. The Viper is my next buy that or my wife's R8 pending the price fall. We will see when the C8 has been out for a year or so how the other cars drop. Props to GM for once they actually did something that may help the whole industry.

My first car back in 1999 was a 1982 Volkswagen Passat 32b Coupé. Looks like the Passat Variant wagon but with the fastback 2-door looks of the Scirocco. That was a lot of fun driving and working on it. Brings back memories =) Greetings from Germany!

Cool beans! Just bought a Scirocco Mk2 1.8 8v myself a month ago. Needs some work, mainly outside though. It is my first big project car and I am supper psyched! Drove it 800km round trip to Germany to buy doors for it (the ones that were on were rusted AF). Friend had an almost brand new interior so that is in now. Did some maintenance on the engine and will start working the body now. Prices in the Netherlands are getting higher and higher and since I bought this one for cheap (1k euro's) I can work on it and not lose money :). What are the prices for Mk2's in the USA? Hope to see this car in more videos :D

I wished I would've known about the Bosch K Jetronic system. I myself outran a NCSHP Mustang in my Scirocco, no shit because it handled so well, the only problem was I felt the rear brakes would grab before the front. Mine had issues with cold starts.

I bought a new "82 because of the looks. I thought it was very well made and stayed tight.. "Fahrvergnügen" It was a fun drive. I kept it a few years and even towed a small sailboat with it. My only dislike was the front-wheel drive. I sold it for a larger Blazer..

When I heard you say "Bosch K Jetronic" I shuddered and felt sick. In my 20's I had the unfortunate opportunity to learn all about that system when my Volvo stopped running.

Don't buy a Passat unless you want to learn how to diagnose electrical problems weekly. As a ex vw dealer teck trust me on this they were the worst car vw ever made , I spent and entire week changing water pumps on them one after another book time 6hrs , I could knock them out in 3 or less hrs. Golf ,jetta, Scirocco's oil changes and brakes, the odd suspension problem . Cleaning the crap off the air flow meter plate fixes 90% of running problems , they get heavy, sticky. VW has know for ever they have electrical connection problems so bad they invented a product called stablen , it is like crazy glue for electrical pins but removable and cost way to much,if memory serves me correct I think the dealership charge 5 bucks a drop. We had 1tube at a time for 15 mechanics and you had to record how many drops you used and return to parts counter. 30 years as a teck and they were the worst cars I ever worked on. Profitable yes, but, just a nightmare for fix 1 thing and a week later it's back for another problem even if someone wants to give you one for free just walk away

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the previous owner had wollered out those bolts before you bought it. He probably tried swapping out the ps pump, wollered out the bolts and gave up, it's quite common. I currently own 7 Sciroccos so I'm rather well acquainted with this phenomenon. Buy a Bentley manual, it will save your sanity. The white filter/surge tank, does have a filter in it, and quite hard to find recently.

i just bought one as my first car with 110000km from 1984. Im slowly fixing it, as soon as i finish other expensive project i have in my hands right now im gonna start to tune it to leave it sporty and even more fun

Great video, beautiful Scirocco. I have a question. What is the diameter, width, and offset of your wheels and the width and aspect ratio of the tires? I bought an 84 and it has some goofy wide and staggered 15" wheels with extra stretched tires I want to replace.

vw tech, that "capacitor" is called a fuel accumulator. The accumulator is crucial for the high pressure pump to function for the fuel distributor. Not sure why they call it that, but it essentially holds higher pressure than what the in tank pump can can provide. Pretty antiquated, but when it works. It's awesome. I love the throttle response of the CIS system. The accumulator is crucial for the high pressure pump to function for the fuel distributor.

My mentor got a mad speeding ticket in a Scirocco back in the 80's. He got a 120 in a 25 mph zone. He said he went home and put a turbo on the car afterwards. Get some boost and these fuckers fly.

So in 2009 i bought a scirocco it was great. Then it broke. Had a valve not close for some reason. Then i bought another one in 2010. It was already slightly modded but it was really good. I gave it to a co worker who really needed it. Haven't found a good one since. So ya its super hard to find one that isn't ragged out and have some crazy miles on it. Love the vids.

The fuel capacitor, the white thing, yours looks like even recently replaced, these are exactly how they sell them now, earlier they were not of white plastic, no need to change it.
