In this video I show the brand new Baby Lock Magnetic Frame, and use it to put a border around a quilt. I create the border with the Quilt Sashing feature on the Solaris II. Enjoy! Skip to 1:06:00 to see the finished product!
Earlier during dinner I mentioned to my hubby that I need to learn more about the magnetic frame and border function. Into my sewing room I go and lo and behold there you were with your tutorial. Thank you so much. I love your tutorials.
Thank you. This is the first video I’ve seen on the border function. I’ve been sort of intimidated to try it but not now. This was great, easy to understand. I will now feel confident that I can finally try the function. Can’t wait for the new magnetic hoop. Looks much better than my current ones.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching that through. Good decision to let it be long. I see you too ran into some of the snags I did only I used a regular hoop to boot. The key is good fine tuning 👌. My upgrade kit is waiting for me to pick up, can't wait. Thanks for a pleasurable time.
Thanks Brad for the great video to demo not only the new magnetic hoop, but the update to the Solaris, also. Two questions. On the panel that you used the top & bottom borders were narrower than the sides. Is there any way to adjust for this so that it's neither too narrow on the sides and too wide on top and bottom? Would the hoop work using the "Edge-to-Edge" designs? Thanks!
I'm a little leary of magnetic hoops now, Brad. I've been reading about people who are using them are finding the computers in their machines are failing at a young age.
I've had customers using magnetic hoops for well over a decade, it has never been a problem. I can count on one hand the number of PC boards I've had to replace on Baby Lock embroidery machines, and we sell hundreds of them a year.
What magnetic hoop(s) would you recommend for the Ellisimo Gold? Thank you, your videos are GREAT, easy to understand and extremely thorough, yet succinct.
Thanks for the great video! I am so excited for the Upgrade, but I have been on the fence for the Magnetic Hoop and now I am thinking that I will get the hoop too! Again thanks for the overview.
Brad, can you please tell me how you got the grid to show up on your fabric? I can't seem to find that button if my life depended on it.. You used it in your in depth review of the Solaris, which was fantastic!
My hoop ordered not in yet. I have two questions. It doesn’t look as though the design is centered on the black border, is there a way to center the design and fill the border? Second question, isn’t there a way to not have all the knots on the wrong side of the quilt?
Regarding your quilt sandwich, did you hoop the panel, the batting, and the backing? Or did you just hoop the panel and tbe batting? Thank you for the very informative video,
I have a Solaris 2 ordered and I'm looking forward to it. You're really good with software. Can you compare software programs in certain areas? I'm looking for the best choice for digitizing pictures to make them fairly realistic. Is it worth buying two different programs for different types of digitizing? Can software be ordered from your store or do I need to go to a local dealer? Do you offer any online classes I can subscribe to? Thanks for all your videos!
The only online classes i have to subscribe to are here on RU-vid. Yes, ideally I would want to have 2 programs: palette 11 for sending designs to the machine and autodigitizing designs, and Floriani Total Control U for manual digitizing and design editing. Of the two the only one I can sell online is Floriani, which we sell for $1799.
@@EllicottCitySewVac Thanks very much for answering. I'm subscribed so I'll look for your classes. I'll check the price on Palette 11 and see if their are demo versions of both programs that I can try. Thanks very much!
Could you show if you mess up and have to redo an area. Every time I try, I have to start all over again. I can not figure out how to continue on afterwards. I end up have to shut machine down and restart????
depends on the mistake. Sometimes you might have to start the design over, but you can skip to the part you were at with the little button with a plus and minus to skip to the end of each piece so it thinks each one is done until you get back to the one you were on. If you just need to go back and adjust the start point after realizing you didn't move the fabric enough you can just hit layout to go back to moving the start point. If nothing else works you can use individual pieces of the design to fill in a spot you where you messed up by picking the individual parts of the design at the very beginning but thats kind of a last resort.
It looks to me that your top and bottom borders were not the same width as the two sides and that was why your pattern over shot the borders. Thsnk you for a good presentation.
OK so I tried this on my Solaris. ALthough I measured the whole width and the whole length. Are you recommending that you use the inside dimensions and add the border size?? I have a section that won't line up so I know I goofed on the measurements. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your informative videos!
@@EllicottCitySewVac Thanks! It worked. I goofed and didn't rotate the corner quite right, but it worked. Thanks again so much. The book instructions should mention the inside measurements. Thanks again.
@@juliefry2774 I ruined a panel last year because of it, while filming a video, which I ended up scrapping because I was so mad. This year I experimented on a big piece of felt to figure out the right way to measure it before trying again, that's how I figured it out.
I have FTCU on my laptop - unfortunately the motherboard died so I got a new laptop - again, unfortunately, this laptop doesn’t have a disc drive. How do I download/transfer the FTCU to my new laptop?
Why is it that the dime hoop was heaven’s gift to the world and now this more expensive hoop is out, some people say the dime hoop is crap? They were all singing praises till this bulky thing came out.
Measurement question: measure top edge to edge minus 1/2" on top border? then measure side top to bottom edge to edge minus 1/2"? then measure corner inside to outside of border minus 1/2"?
I know you’re a dealer and want to sell those hoops, but could you compare the dime hoops and this one? I just can’t find the reason to pay three times the price for it. And..... could you do a demo showing something besides quilting with the hoops? Like how they would hold a dense stitch file.. like a picture stitch
The DIME hoops are for sure a great value, and I've used them lots of times, and they work great for photostitch. Both hoops do. The benefit of this hoop is threefold. 1) Because it's a factory hoop made by Baby Lock, it's guaranteed to work with the machine correctly first time every time. There's been many many DIME hoops that I have had to fix with a Dremel tool right out of the box because the hoop doesn't fit correctly in the embroidery unit. 2) The magnets hold the fabric closer to the inside edge of the hoop, in my testing I was able to have fabric gripped by the inside edge of one of the magnets while being a few millimetres away from the base hoop. Sometimes a few millimetres counts. 3) The magnets are stronger. If possible, go to your local dealer and feel the strength of the magnets for yourself, it's much harder to pull them off the bare frame than it is to pull them off the DIME hoops. I think part of it is the way they are angled. In the end, like most expensive things in this hobby, it's a luxury item. Yes, you can do most of the same things with something cheaper. This one works easier, especially on borders.
