Hey Hannah! I don’t know if this is something worth making a video about, but I feel like it would be interesting and insightful to understand how RU-vidrs/influencers continue to make money/balance their finances when they’re taking a break or reducing their online content - I don’t know if you plan on taking a maternity leave, and I know that I don’t personally blame any RU-vidrs when they take breaks as well as the fact that I’m happy to wait until their return in content since I have other content creators to also watch in the meantime, but I always wonder the impact from a financial perspective since they don’t have the same paid time off that you’d have in a corporate atmosphere - I feel like I’d never take time off with that fear of knowing that it’s just stopping that flow of income. Anyhow, I hope that’s not too intrusive a question, but something that I think you’d have a fascinating take on in helping the viewers better understand the perspective of the creator experience
It's a real conundrum! I don't think there's time for a video about it, but what I'll say is that it's not just about the loss of income (which will theoretically be temporary) but also the potential loss of momentum or "status" in the algorithm (which can be difficult or impossible to recover from). Joe and I have put a lot of brainstorming and a ton of work into trying to find a way to give ourselves a maternity/paternity leave without permanently losing the momentum of the channel. Hopefully what we've planned will be enough so that we can pick up where we left off when we return, but there will definitely be a financial impact for us (we've been bracing for it) and there's not really a way around that. There are a lot of upsides to this job, but the total nonexistence of paid leave is a huge downside, and this is our most serious encounter with it yet. Wish us luck!
@@HannahLouisePoston it might be the time to produce shorts and maybe some old Hannah, new Hannah contrasts. It’s an editing job but you’ve put in the time and energy and have a great library to draw from.
I grew up in a single parent household. Looking back, something that’s made me less critical of my mom is realizing she had no one to problem solve with. I’m glad you have a partner to strategize and split labor with : )
I wanted to come in and recommend hannah witton - a uk based youtuber(and especially her second channel, more hannah) as someone who has spoken very openly and thoughtfully on this topic. She now has a one year old and so has been navigating the return from her three month leave and the long term effects on her channel and then changes in how she can spend her time
the difference between natasha denona and pat mcgrath is that natasha just released the yucca palette. she doesnt only release taupes and neutrals. i would say natasha is being much more daring and creative at the moment, as outrageous as it is sounding to me as i'm typing
And the newer ND formulas are updated and so good. They’re actually better formulas than PM. She’s listening to the customer and bring it with every launch. I don’t see much innovation in formulas or color stories for PM, and if anything, PM seems to be downgrading by eliminating the special shimmer shades that used to be on the palettes. I mean NO. At this high end level and there is no innovation, no creativity, no special shades, not listening to the customer. Who’s getting my money??! Whoever is offering what I want, and that ain’t any lackluster repetitive pink shadows, that’s for sure.
I didn't even pay attention. My brain looks at your makeup, how you wear your hair, and that pearl always grabs my attention when you wear it. All I think when I see you in such garments is, "Is she overheating?" not that you're on a repeat. 😎
as a younger person who owns literally 0 makeup palettes (only singles! and just a few...) the new path mcgrath and the new natasha denona aren't repetitve to me at all, i wonder if i'm The target audience. like, a new generation of people yet to discover it's ~nude palette~ they also look very entry-level friendly!
as someone who owns 0 pat magrath palletes, this seems like a "best of" collection of wearable shades that I can spend stupid money on once and get really good use out of.
@@TeacupTSauceror THIS! I bought a couple of Pat's singles, watched them crumble to a messy dust in my makeup drawer, and wondered WHY??? Maybe in a palette format, I'd handle them a little more carefully and they wouldn't get all broken up. And those colors are all so necessary to me for my fair/cool preferences. The few warm-ish shades aren't too warm, and I know I love the shimmer/metallic formula, even though until now I've had to apply them with a spongetip or fingertip. So, yeah, I might go without a week's groceries or maybe a tank of gas (at Southern California prices - OUCH!) and become the proud owner of this Pat palette.
@@GordonLouis-w9fif you’re going to splurge on a PM, and want something that has similar & useable shades, I would suggest the one before this. It was my first mothership, it’s beautiful. Hannah has a review of it. Just as an fyi.
I think the big difference between PM and ND is what the brand does overall. PM has been on a pink track for years, but the last ND palette was Yucca. She's still taking chances.
I feel like a clown every time I expect PM to come out with a stupid amazing BROWN palette with boring brown mattes and special neutral shimmers and it's full of pinks again... I just can't stand those salmon and magenta pinks anymore, please stop Pat, please 🥲🥲🥲
Absolutely disagree with anyone who says the ND palette is repetitive. I’ve never felt at all interested in anything from her but, like you, the second I saw it, I was like YES! I’ve really only been buying colorful makeup the last several years and weirdly enough I don’t have anything neutral. I don’t like grays and I don’t like orangey-browns so this is *chefs kiss* perfection. I haven’t felt swooned by any other neutral palette on the market which I think goes to show how unique this one is. I already ordered it 🤡.
Exactly feel the same as you! And I think that it's all in the undertones and the depth in the shades. If you look at the last releases from PMG they are all pink and warm, and overall in the same depth range. As for ND you find cool, warm, a mix of both, darker leaning palettes or more pastel, and this one was the missing one neither cool nor warm, without leaning too light or dark, hits the spot!
I don't own many neutrals and I thoroughly dislike orange on me but I think the theme is more repeatative than the actual colour story. The glam pallet is quite different to the nude pallet in depth, number of shimmers vs mattes and undertone. I don't really want either pallet but you can see the differences between if you look closely. I think most people just remember that the glam was a "cool toned neutral" and saw a cool toned neutral pallet so assumed they were the same/repeatative. I find it a little ironic and funny that most people who complained about this pallet would probably own 3 or 4 too faced pallets or more than 1 orangey/warm brown neutral pallets 😂
I’ve never bought anything from ND before this palette because I never liked their color stories but this one is different it’s verging the youthful douyin trend and it’s completely neutral and glittery, I love it
With ND and PMG, I think there is a vast difference in consumer reactions because of what consumers have been asking for. We have been begging Pat McGrath to depart from pink, and then she gave us the pinkest palette of them all. Then the brand blocked people and deleted comments for giving critical feedback. With Natasha Denona, she releases a wide variety of colorful palettes. Yucca, the pastel palette, trio chrome, that circus b themed palette, etc. She provides variety and launches multiple palettes per year, so it doesn’t feel boring and repetitive when we get a gorgeous neutral palette
I think the difference between PM and ND is that at least ND releases palettes with different colour stories in between the 'nudes' - Yuca just came out, a grungey dream. PM has exclusively released pink for years now, which is why I think the frustration has built to the point it has.
Making the massive assumption that your time-crunch is to do with a due date, let me just say: good luck! I had a baby last November and your makeup declutter video series got me through many late-night nursing sessions. Thank you for all that you do! You and your family are on my mind these days
Same here! (Although my bub was born in October 2022.) I’ve been watching all of your old videos as I pump. Thank you for being a constant in a time of major change ❤
Also, there is something mesmerizing about these eyeshadow sets. I consider paying 80$ for a quad kin of crazy, but I very seriously consider getting that gray - dirt yellow quad. All these different color sets are familiar and unique at the same time. Shades have that hint of special. I'm not versed in color theory or design, but I look at that and that brand new release screams classic to me.
I am so with you on the difference between the Natasha Denona and Pat McGrath releases. The pinkness of the PML one is the fourth Mothership and probably seventh or eighth total pink palette from her (if you count the six pans, Brigerton, and the quads). ND just released YUCCA (vastly different from her other palettes). Also, it’s been years since Glam was released and it isn’t exactly the same as Glam, it’s much lighter and even cooler. I’m with you Hannah and appreciate your Ted Talks!
Are you kidding me? I finally bit the bullet and purchased the ND Glam Palette last week after letting it sit on my wishlist for MONTHS, and now she drops the most gorgeous taupe and pink cool nude palette? As someone who hardly wears enough makeup to justify having one luxury eyeshadow palette in my collection, I feel like this release was meant to spite me specifically lmao 😂 UPDATE: I mulled it over for a month and watched a ton of reviews, and have decided that this palette is not for me... Hallelujah! As beautiful as the color story may be, it seems to be a palette catered for more fair-skinned girlies. Plus, the swatches seem to lean more neutral than cool. So I'll be keeping an eye out for something else that can Dupe the Vibes 😉
Lol 😂😂😂 Buy both. You won’t regret it. Both are super wearable and different enough (Glam is cool tone and the new one is more neutral). Even if you don’t wear that much makeup, both palettes are great quality that would last, and you would also have more variety to chose from when doing your makeup.
you and me both lol. I just got the Glam palette for my birthday, a few days before she released the nude palette lol. And I was holding off the Glam palette for a whole year because I thought it might be too neutral taupe for me, not enough nude pink. I was basically afraid that it wouldn't be nude enough. And when I saw the new palette, I was sooo mad ha ha because it's what I had in mind before I compromised with the Glam palette. But I have to say I've been loving the Glam palette and don't regret it. It just means I have to get another ND palette.
I think I'm currently in the mindset of wanting to play around more with my Glam palette and see how it performs for me. If the I Need A Nude palette manages to live in my brain for another couple of months, I may consider adding into my collection. Just trying to avoid going down the rabbit hole of trying to possess every color under the sun haha 😅
Not so recently, but I also finally broke down & bought the Glam palette after waiting for ages & literally prob spending double the amount of it trying to dupe it out 😂. My first non-mini ND palette. And I’ve literally barely used it bcuz my life hasn’t been conducive to doing much more than basic throw on shadows & I use my small palettes or singles for that. As an FYI, my most used palettes are literally the Revlon 5-pans, they’re great, I don’t have any TF but they’re drugstore dupes for ease of use etc. Highly recommend! Anyway, even tho it makes zero sense, I watched too many ppl loving on the new ND palette & I bought it. So I’ll get to do fun swatches at least 🤦🏼♀️
Heres a makeup hot take. If Born to Run was released today people would still go nuts for it. A grungy rainbow with interesting textures?? Yes please! An updated formula and modern textures... Take my money.
What’s cool about the glossier release is that in their fair shades, they have a neutral, pink, peach and yellow. In their light shades, they have an addition of a olive tone. Which is just unheard of. Now, I’m peachy-more pink toned, and very fair, but my mom is light and olive toned. And I’d be interested to get her this.
“the albatross of nudity” … “if you go to scroll mood and trend down the page…” 💀💀💀 wahhhh Hannah on a sunday when i’ve been feeling sad, i’m so appreciative of a cosy new HLP video (especially nm 🎼 ht 🎼) 💜
I will say that Pat McGrath palette is the Pat McGrath palette I’ve been waiting for. There’s no brown, just pinking peach. I love it and I can’t wait for it to come out.
The situation with the newest Pat McGrath palette makes me think of when a beloved ruler of the kingdom goes off the rails and everyone underneath him is like "No!!! But why??? Why would you do this?! We all loved you!!!" lol
Hey Hannah. In regards of Prada marketing vs Rhode marketing I actually feel the other way around. Prada’s clinical approach not only fit aesthetically with the current direction of the brand but also gives it a timeless utilitarian characteristic to the ways the products are presented, not personal, not emotional, no stories behind it, no faces, perhaps just good products with a name of a brand that knows it’s aesthetics and who they are selling to. I haven’t tried the products, and I feel no particular way about Rhode, but I am responding to the marketing in the opposite way as you are, which I found interesting enough to mention.
Lol there are other players who are bigger culprits or can have a bigger impact on the environment than Prada or Rhode. And I highly doubt that Rhode cares about the environment - its just a marketing tactic.
I completely agree people should make more educated and conscious decisions when it comes to how they consume and how sustainable those choices are. The thing I’m seeing is that perhaps Rhode is better at marketing their environmental efforts but not necessarily you are making a better choice for the environment because of this. I’m cynical about the use of these marketing strategies because they usually are implemented by the brand to serve as differentiating tool and to remove some of the “guilt” of overconsumption and trends. I can now get all of these items because I’ve been told they are all sustainable… by the people profiting from my purchase.
Natasha’s palettes of late have been so complex, so nuanced, so interesting, and most of all… so wearable! I have been asking her for a palette like this for several years. Cool browns, taupes, and muted pinks. I think so many of us have. She and her team are really perfecting their art and I am so thankful for their hard work! I bought this right away, like you cannot wait to pair it with the glam. I feel like a kid on Christmas!
I’ve never batted an eye at Natasha Denona’s palettes before and eyeshadow palettes don’t typically turn my head but THIS one got me, too! Glad I’m not alone!
You should see Angela Bright’s comparison video before buying the new ND palette. The palette is glorious IMO but still many similar shades. I will buy it on sale 100%. Be warned it’s really not cool tone.
I have a two week old at home and have been wondering when you’d be bringing home your precious bundle! Hoping you have a safe and peaceful delivery. Thank you for the wonderful videos. 🤗
Angela Bright did a deep dive into the new ND palette - and it emerged that there are plenty of eyeshadows that are NOT duplicates. In addition, ND introduced a whole new texture in this palette. But, you can discount my comment altogether when you consider that I’m justifying my purchase…!
Thank you. The chatty style is fun. I do prefer a deeper dive over a quick run through. Mostly I just like listening to your free flow run through of your thoughts and feelings. I really appreciate how much work you’ve been putting in as you approach your final countdown. I hope everything goes well and that you know we are supporting you from afar.
I think that we're starting to see the failing of this "infinite expansion" business model that a lot of these brands take towards new products. It's never about a core ethos or creative vision with a contained range of products that accomplish that, it's just "how are we going to capture everyone's attention on tiktok for another 48 hours". Creativity is limitless but I don't see that creativity in yet another pink or nude eyeshadow palette. How about new textures, new formulas, a new user experience?
The ND palette is what I’ve been waiting for since UD discontinued their Naked2 palette! It looks like true neutral mid tones. The other ND palette you mentioned has several golden and warmer shades. This one just looks so seamless!
I don't need another eyeshadow palette, but 100% agree with your take on this new ND. Gosh it's stunning. As an aside...I'm excitedly waiting to find out if baby Hannah-and-Joe is gonna be a Leo or a Virgo! Wishing you all the best!
My opinion. Pat gets held to a higher standard than other brands. It’s bs but also something I see IRL: when she can give us extraordinary we feel cheated by ordinary.
I agree and disagree to some extent. I think when comparing PML to, say, Urban Decay or two faced we do hold PML to higher standards for doing what those two brands do (i.e., rehash the same color story), however, PML is more expensive than both of them. So, when comparing by price range, I think it makes sense to compare PML to ND and give the former a little shade for bringing out yet another reiteration of the same palette that has been around since the Divine Rose mothership. Like others have mentioned, with ND's last release being that yellow grungy Yucca midi, the New Nudes is far removed from that (but not from previous releases like the Glam or Retro Glam). It begs the question about whether or not it is worth paying the high price for likely extraordinary formulas when the shades are so similar to previous renditions.
@@caithenry8429 I buy ND palettes on sale as I don’t think it’s worth full price. The palettes always draw me in and then I end up putting them away and pulling out my Viseart or PMG. On the other hand I have repurchased 2 PMG motherships because I love the formulas so much and the eyeshadow lasts all day. I wore the first 2 motherships to my corporate job, glitters and all, for years and the shadows lasted all day with no fading or creasing. So I have a different perspective. Have a bought the latest mothership? No. I have personally been disappointed with her updated formulas since Mothership X. And the red and purples are terrifying for my skin tone, TBH. The new ND palette seems up my alley, but I will wait for a sale. I don’t have Biba, Glam, Dream or Retro so it won’t be repetitive to me.
I've seen extraordinary with ND but not so much with pat. I have 3 palettes from pat and 3 from ND. One special shade and a decent formula of the same boring pink shades isn't a seller anymore. There's so much great stuff in the indie community with better formulas AND different colors.
I want to thank you for introducing me (a person who has pretty minimal makeup experience) to the idea of FORMULA -- i.e., maybe if I can't get a product to "work", maybe it's just that the formula is not great or not right for what I want to do, and not because I'm dumb and applying it wrong or something. It seems kind of obvious, but that was such a lightbulb moment!
Ok I am the person for whom rose tones are really my colors. Here’s the thing: there aren’t any looks that I would regularly do with the new Pat Mcgrath palette that I don’t already do with my Divine Rose palette. With the Natasha Denona, even though I do own Glam, I think the palette inspires me to do something different. I might not go out and buy it, but it does excite me.
Update: the I Need a Nude palette is PERFECT. maybe she was listening to you. I don’t know how she made those shimmers to be impactful without a bunch of glitter, but they are next level. The mattes are chef’s kiss for my pale skin. You won’t regret a purchase. And there are lots of discount codes out there.
I like this format. Talking about fewer releases but going more in depth about each one. Also, the natural shade of your eyebrows is so pretty! Brings out your natural beauty :) Do you think you’ll keep them that way or dye them dark again?
Finally a sensible review! I don't understand so much excitement for ND and so much hate for PM, when for me they were doing the same thing. Another difference that I think may be happening to make people more excited about the ND launch is that ND has been varying their colour story over the last few releases providing variety for customers, which PM has not. Therefore, ND might not seem so repetitive.
Prada had a previous makeup line, in the late 90’s I think? I got it from Neiman Marcus and it was really nice. The pressed powder was my holy grail until I used it up, which I rarely do. I’ll try to see this in person to see what I think.
I don’t do eyeshadow palettes because I don’t know how to do eyeshadow 🫣 but when I saw the ND nude palette, I jumped. This shall be the one I learn with. Too beautiful to pass up for my complexion.
this video is from a while ago, but I was admiring whatever's on your lips for basically the entire video. it is just so flattering (in my opinion) for you and it fits so well! I would love to know what it is, even though it would most certainly look different on me lol
That new ND palette is my dream color story and I was drooling over it... until I realized that I had actually already created an almost identical palette myself with Glam Shop's single shadows 😂The selection of mattes (apart from that one single "orange" shade) is literally identical to my custom palette! Sorry Natasha, you were too late, I'm good 😁 I really wish I could show my palette to you Hannah so you could see how ridiculously close it is to the ND one! I unknowingly duped it before it was even released 😂
So I bought the Natasha Denona palette immediately when it launched 😂 I’ve actually never owned a Natasha Denona palette before and this is the first one I feel like for me the money is worth it based on my style of makeup. I bought dupes of 2 of her palettes before but yea, first time I was like “take my money!” Haha
I ALMOST went shopping for a new palette yesterday but did not buy anything in the end. I am so glad I didn't because today I laid my eyes on the Natasha Denona and it's just perfection. Take my money, Natasha 💸
I love these talks! I think I’m going to stick with the Salt New York Sneaky balm! I find it more inclusive for skin tones because it’s not super saturated… and it very much resembles a similar feel and finish of the stretch concealer and even RMS uncover up!
Something ive noticed is a lot of my friends/family that dont follow anything beauty refer to urban decay as Naked as though thats the brand name and associate that with good quality
I'm so old that I remember pre Naked UD. I had a square purple velvet palette and they marketed to an edgier audience then. That ND palette is to die for and I haven't bought a big palette in several years.
Was it the UD ammo or deluxe palette? I still have mine (I'm a hoarder 😂), and the deluxe formula was the best that they've ever had. I don't know why they discontinued it!
@@hrdillon1980 it was the deluxe shadowbox. None of the shadows created any cohesive color story but they were fun on their own before the days of full glam eyeshadow tutorials.
When you were talking about the Pat McGrath and Natasha Denona palettes and their slight reworkings, I couldn't help thinking of the tired Naked palettes and earlier comments you've made about what "naked" means to Urban Decay. Then, sure enough, the next item that pops up is yet another Naked palette 😂😂😂
i've always been hesitant to buy pm palettes bc the colors didn't exactly speak to what i wanted and what i would actually use, but i always liked the rose color main colors. this new one is exactly what i wanted and tweaks it all just enough to fit what i love but doesn't change the main color themes of the brand :)
Based on what I have seen from the rest of the internet, I don't think Prada is just doing it to get into just to get into makeup. They seem to be producing really good makeup, both in terms of the product and the packaging (plenty of luxury brands do packaging, but not nearly as much on what's inside the case unless it's makeup). It also seems to not be ludicrously priced considering they easily could have said "let's charge $100 for a complexion product that doesn't look good and kills you with fragrance." In terms of the clinical packaging,Prada is not one of the luxury brands that is trying to be super bold. Prada to me is naturally going to give you something that is mostly exquisite minimalism that doesn't feel super personal. It fits them imo.
As someone who hardly buys new makeup, and only really uses the basics at this point, I still watch and love every one of your videos! Thanks for your thoughtful and honest takes! Also as another pregnant person, sending lots of love for everything to come!! You got this ❤️❤️
21:32 my confession: I’ve come to love Rhode skincare. I haven’t tried the new milk, liquid moisturizer thing, but I will as soon as my Laneige cream skin runneth dry. A bonus review- my husband liked the lip treatment enough that he stole my unscented one 😂
26:34 what gets me the most about the Glossier launch... They bragged about having plenty of undertones, including olive, but left olive out of the fair shades 😭 like I know they probably would have just made it yellow but still
I’m not really a luxury beauty buyer, more mid level things, but Kackie has been trying the Prada line and is in love with the foundation. It really is gorgeous on her. She also said the eyeshadows had a great formula. The foundation really seems very well done.
If you ever own Natasha's I Need A Nude Palette, I would love to see a deep dive review on it (Hannah style). I don't know if I will get it after my no-buy is over or not. I want to see it in person and swatch it to decide. I am most likely going to get one of the Moonlit Seduction palette with Ulta points next year. I'm eyeing that one pretty hard right now.
I reacted the exact same way to the new ND palette. I am coveting it hardcore. I can use every single shade! I’m a desaturated “B” and usually I cannot use all the shades in a palette. But this one is special. Plus, I’ve been looking to replace my too old basic neutral palette. So, yeah, take my money, please. Now. 😊😊😊
I feel like the issue with Pat's palette is people have complained about pink palette after pink palette and she's like well... here you go. It's pinker! I was excited about the I Need A Nude palette but I think I've talked myself down. I want Natasha to do a color story that does it for me. Watching Angela Bright swatch the shimmers cooled down the fire I felt for this palette though. They're just soooo similar. I can use the Electric Pink palette and the New Mod palette to get the vibe I want from the I Need A Nude palette.
As soon as I saw the release of the N.D. palette I thought "This is MADE for H.L.P." (not to say you are so predictable but... ahahaha !). I couldn't wait to hear you talk about it to find out if I was right or not. (I never comment because english is not my native language, so I am sorry for the possible wrong words or spelling !). Take good care of yourselves as important changes are on their way...
This, I Need A Nude pallet, was LOVE at first sight! It's like the Super Model of all palettes, I don't care if the relationship works, but I just WANT it!! It's as good as bought for me!
I am RABID for that new Natasha Denona palette in a way that surprises me. 😅 I don't really go for her palettes anymore because they can be quite same-y within the palette (and this one is too, just a bit), but the idea of actual neutral-toned neutrals is too tempting to pass up!! I've been stalking Sephora and Ulta's websites to see when it's in stores for swatching and can't wait to find it.
New to your channel and loving your content (your declutters hooked me). I find your views on foundation very helpful and will put this Glossier one on the probably not list as I now understand the difference between shade, tone and now saturation. Thank you 🙏
I echo your sentiments so completely when it comes to the new nd! Not only is it the first time I've been truly interested in an nd midi, but it's the first time I'm dead set on picking it up (probably bf time tbh). It's perfect. As for ud & their naked line, bleh. Thing is, & this is something I feel like I continuously see in the community (particularly the smaller indiebrand community) is that so many people fail to see that most of these brands are driven by market data. The new kaleidos blushes & entire new collection immediately spring to mind since so much of the community was defeated over it. I understand the disappointment, I understand the blushes are soo light, but I find it incredibly hard to believe kaleidos did this on a whim. Hopefully they listen to consumer feedback & launch a line of neutral blushes with more depth.
