Video idea: a realistic HLP take on the trend of what you’d buy if you lost your entire makeup collection! I think that when a lot of RU-vidrs do this trend it’s not the most realistic, bc really that quantity of beauty at once is not something one person would get at one time - like the realistic consumer would likely stick to a minimal face they feel most comfortable with for day to day, maybe a couple of items they love that they would like to have immediately to treat themselves, but other things they would collect over time. So I’d love to see your take on that video on what are the things you “need” to buy first in order to feel like your most comfortable self if you lost your entire makeup collection
I’d love to see this! Or, taken from a slightly different POV, of someone who was just starting out, never really having had a MU collection in the first place. What are the ‘must haves’? (Asking for a friend)
Urban Decay needs a new creative director. The "Naked" branding has been taken far beyond the levels of meaninglessness and absurdity, into straight up trolling territory.
I hate that they had to reinvent the original Naked palettes! Why couldn’t they just have updated the design, created another 1-2 versions with different depths and added different finishes (sparkly, metallic, satin etc). There was no need to reinvent a classic at all, they could have just played around with the existing shades.
Please keep reckonings coming! It's both useful and entertaining to hear you dissect the reasons for keeping and letting go of items, such a good format
I feel we need a third party involved the next time Joe to rebrands makeup, so you BOTH don't know the original! Maybe a friend can disguise the products, so all you see is Joe's (absolutely wonderful) branding. I'm curious... if you only saw Joe's branding, how would it impact the way you approached the products? The reveal of the original products would be super fun at the end!
Yes! And they have a 40% off sale happening at this moment. I already have a good amount left over from their last sale but my god are the formulations phenomenal and well priced.
Rephr has its skincare at 50% off right now! I’ve restocked the cleanser, essence and intense hydration cream. I’ve also ordered the lighter cream to try because I loved everything else they’ve done. Who needs a Sephora sale for skin care when they’re doing is affordably every day AND running a promotion like this?
Versed and Merit have the same CEO/founder! I’m always surprised this isn’t more of a known thing, but I’ve been following her for a while since she was also one of the co founders of Who What Wear - she decided to take on the product side of their offerings (hence versed and merit were born) and her other co founder now mainly works with their content centric products (website and podcast) (…if I’m remembering the details correctly).
I cannot overstate the pleasure I get from your thoughtful consideration and articulation of the factors guiding this “reckoning.” The details themselves are cogent - even motivational - as I rifle through my own collection. Also, I could fully wrap myself in your voice and speaking style like a cozy blanket … just lovely. 🥰
Fox from merit is one of the best blush purchases I’ve made in quite a while. The color is so stunning and I love the sheer buildable quality of the formula! I am really pale and I love when I can wear colors like that that don’t go on in a super saturated way.
Same, I fell in love with the formula when I bought Mood last year to try and now I own like 6 or 7? It's like the only blush I wear anymore tbh I want them to bring Mars back permanently so bad, because I don''t want to use mine because I know once it's gone it's gone forever 😭
A video idea for us folks who are desaturated/muted or olive - what makeup products (shades of foundation, eyeshadow, blush, bronzer) you know and tried that have grey in them or compliment olive skin tones. I have a similar complexion to you, just more tan, so I find myself relating to a lot of your product issues (them being too saturated or too peach or too orange). So yeah, that would help us a lot!
I cannot with the packaging on the Chantecaille products-maybe they look better in person, but the imagery just looks like stock screen saver photos on a windows 97, haha.
I know it's been really popular on youtube and tiktok, but it would be fun to see you get a professional color analysis! Since you talk about undertones and saturation on your channel I think it would be so interesting to see a professional do something similar! I feel like it could be a different use of your channel budget, sort of makeup and fashion adjacent.
i have no clue what joe looks like but any time you mention him i picture a dude wearing harry potter glasses and a turtleneck i don’t need to know what he looks like
I am so happy to see reckonings making a comeback!!! I find your overhead content so soothing, but theres something special about reckonings & declutters.
I am so happy I found your channel. We live small and somewhat minimal. We are fortunate to be able to afford quality which allows us to have a smaller quantity. It is nice to relate to a channel.
That's great to hear. I was doing well with a low consumption life, but gave myself a year to explore skincare & makeup. I needed a refresh after many years of a very minimal routine. It's been great to really figure out what products work for me and how to spend to get the best quality/value balance. However, it's also been very tempting to just keep consuming. This channel helped me realize that there's no benefit to me by continuing to shop regularly. I currently have a lovely makeup collection, and just want to have more fun with it!
I love that you bring up the fact that minimalism is a function of privilege. It shows a lot of insight that many "minimalism" influencers lack. The better my income becomes, the less and the better I can buy too.
I love an old school HLP reckoning! I love the expansion of creativity your channel is growing in, but this rigorous passing through of items is such a good practice! My culling/streamlining has taken a backseat over the last year, and this reminder is wonderful. I just moved on Monday, and now that I'm finally have space to breathe, I am having more makeup playtime, as well as unearthing older (perhaps past its prime) makeup.
Lol when I saw the thumbnail I knew you would keep Fox for sure, but also Stockholm because it's your sort of thing and I was surprised you decided to part with it. I also have the Chantecaille blush in Happy and I don't think they look the same when applied on the face. Happy definitely is more peach-y leaning and more "no makeup makeup" to me and Stockholm packs a bit more punch where it gives that pink almost slightly sun burnt look.
I really appreciate how methodical you go through your thoughts and decisions. I would love to see you do a video of other RU-vidrs favorites and see if you agree 😊
I am so excited you kept the lipstick. I have big feels that you might not get use all year long, but I think it'll be one of those, shining gems of spring/summer. It honestly reads so perfectly corally pink on my screen. It makes my brain happy.
Off topic, but I love these nails on you! I have enjoyed that set as well. On topic, I like hearing which products appeal to Joe too. I often try to get my husband to use more skincare.
I would love to get Joe's opinions or reviews on the skincare he uses! Even if he just tells you and you relay his routine and his thoughts on them, and maybe how he started using them in the first place. I really want to get the men in my life more suncream and skincare things but they have trouble telling me what they actually think of products or what they enjoy for their skin. I feel like hearing Joe's opinions would help that!
But I've heard so many RU-vidrs who absolutely love Kiko Milano products! Is it just a case of things that really don't have staying power? I'm loving the idea of their gradient powder blushes; please let me know if you think they're not worth the reasonably affordable prices.
Thank you for talking about rephur skincare, I believe their sale is still happening and it’s at least 50% off! I hadn’t heard you mention it before ❤❤❤
To prevent tape from tearing paper after a watercolor session- I will put a hairdryer on it gently and it softens the glue a bit and comes off easily. But on packaging the problem of the glue residue. Removes with rubbing alcohol- just Incase it helps.
I really enjoy these reckoning videos; they're so soothing to watch/listen to. I've been in quite the decluttering mood lately and I think soon it will be time to dig into my makeup collection. Videos like this one are super helpful because some of your considerations for keeping/decluttering an item can help me when assessing my own makeup
Hey great video as always, I love Versed too, and they have a neat offer, they will take back empties and give a $10 coupon. Plus other brand empties too. Also so right about Rephr, love their skin care and brushes, right now everything is 40% off. Puts the skincare at less than drugstore prices !
This was a delightful bit of entertainment while making myself some brunch :) Part of what I value so much about your videos is following your thought process; since this was almost entirely that, I’d love to see more of these!
I am watching your no buy year for the third time, and you are certainly a changed woman! I am in my second year of a no buy simply because I know I’m nowhere near recovered. I want so muck to be the low buy Hannah. Alas I am a mere February 2018 Hannah. Still swimming in debt and choking down the desire to buy.
I only buy one of everything and use until I run out and start over again. Full face recommendation “packages” would be amazing video content, especially under $100 💕
I use the lighter version of that rephr moisturizer and am very seriously considering trying the whole range during the sale. I'd like to be able to opt out of the steel key though. It's nice for most of the way down the tube, but as you get up close to the neck, the key actually impedes progress, and I've given up on it. I have all these keys sitting around now.
I'm so not a fan of the Rephr intense hydration cream for all the reasons you love it. The packaging just doesn't work that well unfortunately and it never absorbed on my skin. I'm also not loving the gel cleanser - it's ok but Naturium niacinamide cleansing gelee is a million times better (super gentle and less stripping, more fun texture, removes sunscreen better). The essence however is a win - it's cooling and hydrating and absorbs very well.
Weird plug, but I'm someone who always wants to save like, nice bottles and candle jars while taking the brand off it. Goo Gone is INCREDIBLE for it. A little GG and my kitchen scraper gets all the adhesive outta there.
Loving a good old reckoning from HLP I wish those Urban Decay palettes had been better color stories and quality. My heart sang when I saw the smileys.
I couldn’t tell what color you had for the Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer, but have you tried the color Aura? I’m a very pale olive undertone, and I’ve found Aura seems to work beautifully.
i feel like the Rephr face wash isn’t fragrance free. I could be very wrong here, but it has a super light, fresh fragrance, but then the very OFF smell from the metal bottle in which it comes.
Wish not everything had Hyaluronic acid in it. Other I'd be all over the Rephr skincare otherwise, niacinamide and peptides would be excellent in a thick cream like that. Hyaluronic acids used daily will dry out the skin.
Hey group. Can anyone tell me how to do what Hannah mentioned, disinfect an eyeshadow palette? Do you just dab each pan with an alcohol wipe or something else? TIA group.
Do you ever depot eyeshadows when there is one in a palette you want to keep? Totally agree on the Kosas, it was crazy bad…too dark and then the lightest shade turned me into the Tin Man.
