Very professional and down to business review. I love the camera view from the inside whilst driving, much better than having to look at the reviewer! And great detail shots on the interior as well!

This was a great review for me. Really covered everything I was looking for about this car. I think next move has to be a hands on test drive for myself as that's the only way to know for sure if it's the right car for me. Well done.

Ordered a Mazda 6 Sport Nav Tourer 2.2 Diesel auto (175PS) in Black with Stone/Black interior on contract hire on 30,000 miles a year for 2 years. As well as being a great car that I am really looking forward to driving it is also hugely competitive on a PCH basis and generally a higher specification as standard than its rivals at £472 per month - VW Passat GT with 150PS engine was £530 and Ford Mondeo Titanium (with Winter pack and Titanium X pack) was £730!!!! Assuming the car is even better than the original Mk1 hatch and MPS models I have owned, this ticks many, many boxes.

Hey, How have you found the car ? i'm interested in one.
@Eyesore2003
@Eyesore2003 7 лет назад
14 months on and the car has done 44,000 miles - looks like the 30,000 miles PCH plan was somewhat optimistic. Overall those 44k miles have been excellent. The car is a great motorway cruiser and also provides a good amount of fun as well, especially on A roads with the paddle-shift gears if you're really in the mood. Great family car being a tourer as well. Auto gearbox is very, very good, not quite as good as a VW DSG but still smooth and responsive. Minor disappointments are the stone (cream) interior, looks amazing on day one but it doesn't wear well so I would go for black in hindsight, also the brakes. They simply aren't as responsive as the accelerator so don't think you can stop anywhere near as quickly as you can get off the line. Finally lacquer on the alloy wheels began to peel off after only two weeks but in fairness the dealer was excellent and replaced all 4 without quibble in less than a week. Only one major disappointment - fuel economy. Brochure claims 2.2, 175ps auto tourer will achieve urban 46.3mpg; extra-urban 67.3mpg and combined 57.6mpg. Not a hope in hell of getting that. I have a 75 mile commute up the M3 in Hampshire and even if I set cruise control at 72mph then at 53mph through an 18 mile stretch of roadworks I still only get 52mpg - less than the combined claimed figure and nowhere near the extra-urban claim. I would expect 10mpg less than any brochure claims but 15mpg less when you are really trying to be economical is massively disappointing, particularly when this was chosen over an SUV (Kia Sorento) due to being £50 per month less and the additional expected economy is a real kick in the teeth. I soften (or worsen) the blow by really enjoying having a proper blast home once a week and ignore the fuel guage. Overall if you are after a family car with good boot size combined with top level specifications and equipment and a decent amount of fun you will be hard pressed to find a better option.

Hi could you please tell me what you think of the 2007 Honda Accord 2.2 i-ctdi not looking to compare it with any modern car however you do not have any reviews on second hand cars and i am really interested in the accord. Before anyone criticizes me im not looking to compare it to a modern mazda 6. Thanks
@TestDrivenUK
@TestDrivenUK 8 лет назад
+Julian Scerri Wow, that takes me back! I presume you mean the 7th generation Euro model, since you mention diesel. In my opinion, the 7th gen was better than the 8th - Honda seemed to remove all the good bits in an attempt to reduce costs. This particularly affected the Tourer because the 8th gen was left with massive suspension intrusion into the rear cargo area, and also lost things like the one-motion seats, the lockable underfloor compartment, etc. I do remember there being an issue with turbo failure on the first version of the 2.2 at about 50k miles but these should have been rectified by now. We reviewed the 2.4 Type S here: www.testdriven.co.uk/honda-accord-tourer-24-type-s/ and that may be worth a look. Short version, we always liked the 7th gen Accord, and as I recall, it always sold well right up until the day they replaced it with the 8th gen, at which point sales fell off a cliff. If there's anything else you'd like to know, I'll do my best to rummage through my memory!
@Giljan7
@Giljan7 8 лет назад
+TestDriven thanks for your reply. I was interested in the diesel because i am a full time student and do not work full time, live in Malta which has no highways and therefore it makes no sense to buy a small petrol engine as they just drink fuel like crazy on low gears and i prefer the torque from a diesel engine. I've always liked the accord and i think it looks better than the same year 3 series and c class even though it competed against the mondeo and mazda 6 which again i think the accord looks better. The "problem" is i would have to buy an imported vehicle from England which would have around 100,000 miles on the clock, which is why i would like to know how reliable the engine is due to the high milage it will have, and while i do know that most of them will have been highway miles on 6th gear i would still like to know whether the car can do 9/10 years of daily service as cars are very expensive to buy over here. I've heard of timing chain issues but many different versions.
@TestDrivenUK
@TestDrivenUK 8 лет назад
+Julian Scerri I understand. Unfortunately reliability around the 100,000-mile mark isn't something I could talk about with any real authority. What might be worth doing is looking around for a few independent Honda service specialists and asking for their thoughts - they're likely to have encountered most issues and might be willing to advise on any weak points. Good luck!

Great review, really enjoyed it. The 6 is the best in class. So much better than the VW Passat, which is as dull to drive as it is to look at. Shame this car won't sell in the numbers it deserves.
@TestDrivenUK
@TestDrivenUK 8 лет назад
+Paul Bergin Thanks, Paul. It baffles me that this thing doesn't sell in bigger numbers - it's a far better drive than, say, Mondeo, with a compelling range of engines and a well thought-out interior. A 2.2 Tourer Sport Nav would quite happily suit me for many years.
@paulbergin8382
@paulbergin8382 8 лет назад
+TestDriven I am looking at buying a 6 in the new year. In your opinion, is it worth going for the 175 bhp diesel, over the 150 bhp version?
@TestDrivenUK
@TestDrivenUK 8 лет назад
+Paul Bergin It's a peach of an engine so I would personally, but then my preference has always been for torque-heavy engines. However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the 150 and certainly shouldn't be considered a poor relation. To be honest, all Mazda's engines are excellent at the moment, so you could throw a dart at the range and drive home in whatever it hits and you'd still be happy.

Jaramos Almost nobody mentions the fact that their diesel engine is Turbo because in this day and age it is almos a given that if it's a diesel it is also a turbo, and the way it look that's the future for gas engines as well...

Isn't this classified as 2016?
@benanderson89
@benanderson89 9 лет назад
+Jeric Tamayo (Momentum33) Outside of the USA, a car's model year is based on when its released, but people often use the US system anyway regardless of country. In the UK, this is considered a 2015 because its released in 2015.
@benanderson89
@benanderson89 8 лет назад
+Given name Surname misread the plate. So yes it's most likely a 2014.
@TestDrivenUK
@TestDrivenUK 8 лет назад
+benanderson89 Gents, it's a 2015 model year car. The 64 plate runs from Sept 2014 to end of Feb 2015, but as a press car, it will have been one of the first 2015 model year units into the UK. However, irrespective of its manufacture date, it will have been built to 2015 model year specs. What confuses the situation for many, and as +benanderson89 alludes to in his first response, is that the US model years tend to be further ahead than other markets, even though the cars are the same. So, to US customers, this may well be considered a 2016 model year car, but for us in the UK, it's a 2015. By contrast, a 2014 model year car wouldn't have had the various changes we talk about in this video. Hope that helps clarify things a little, but do please feel free to ask if there's anything else we can help with.

Had 3 Mazda 6"s Mechanically abso Great cars... But Think theyv"e lost it Style wise and Price wise abso Ridic Money as the new 6 is the Same money as a BMW /Jaguar? The Current Mazda 6 was supposed to be the Concept Shinari? But ended up a"Warmed over version of the previous model?? Have they solved the serious Corrosion / Rust Problems on the Alloy wheels? Wheel arches? Cheap Interiors? Ive Moved over to the Korean Brands..far better quality for far less equiv money
@Victortrotska
@Victortrotska 7 лет назад
I don't really agree... A fully equipped 175hp diesel with leather seats, HUD etc... is about the same price as a BMW 3series with very little equipment (not even half what you're getting with the 6) and 150hp. It's a car that is often disregarded because many people buy a badge rather than quality. But look at it also performance-wise: from 0 to 100km it's almost as fast as a smaller 184hp Seat Leon FR ST/VW Golf GTD SW! (road tests showed it's faster than factory claims: 7.6secs instead of 7.9secs. While the Seat and VW are 7.5secs). So 0.1sec "slower" for a full sedan with less hp Vs compact estates. That's not bad at all! The Jaguar XE is also a great car (even better than the 3 series champion in many area: driving position, design etc...). But its plastics are worse than a Mazda 6. I'm not a Mazda fanboy but I'm going to switch next year for a more engaging well equipped cruiser than the Passat and the Mazda 6 Sports line 175-D (MT not AT) is on the top of my list Vs Seat Leon FR ST (I'm not going to throw in thousands to get a VW logo and slightly better plastics near my feet...).
@ghmusic8116
@ghmusic8116 7 лет назад
Well as Ive said i had 3 Mazda 6s and they were all great cars apart from severe Corrosion on the Alloy wheels & rear wheel arches which seems to be across the Board on the Mark 2 Model(Which is unheard off on other models in this day &age?) The Price of the Current Model here in Ireland is nothing short of outlandish..Start price €30k (petrol) to €40k The same Money gets you a Jaguar XE or BMW 3 series The VW Passat actually starts at €27k The reason the Mazda is disregarded is Mazda are trying to Compete Luxury wise etc with the like of BMW & Jaguar &; the Brand name simply isnt strong enough already their New MX5 is being outsold by the Fiat 124 Spyder simply because its Italian Brother has more style & flare something alas the Mazda hasnt..Needless to say Ive moved onto South Korean brands 5-7 year warranties 3 year free servicing 5 year roadside assistance far cheaper with equally as Much Equipment as the Mazda and all Mazda can manage is a 3 year Warranty? Me Thinks a Wee bit over rated.
@Victortrotska
@Victortrotska 7 лет назад
Lord fauntleroy Oh! I didn't know there was such price differences. In Germany the price is around 37k€ for the highest trim minus leather seats and 175-D MT. For the same price you get the Passat 190hp (although slower than the 6) MT, middle trim + GPS and that's it. I think it depends where you are. In continental Europe I see more MX-5s than Fiat Spyders. Even in Italy. Even tho I like the modern/retro style of the Fiat I think the MX-5 is hard to beat if you want a "cheap" small coupe that's fun to drive. I had a friend who had a Mazda 6 as company car that's actually the first time I even considered a Mazda. Not because I don't like it but I forgot they even existed. I think most Japanese brands are very bad at marketing. Most of us are stupid and need marketing to be reminded of some models/brands :) And any way: why would you even need a Mazda 6 for Ireland? You guys have three roads going through the country! A small car with no AC but just a heater would be enough! :) Joking I love Ireland. Crazy (although not as crazy as the Aussies :) ) nice people too!
@ghmusic8116
@ghmusic8116 7 лет назад
Haaa! 3 roads? Not anymore wev"e a fairly good Motorway system these days I was looking at 2013-2014 etc Mazda 6 estates here and again abso mad Money for High Mileage cars we"ve a fairly stiff VRT (Vehicle registration tax) here Ah I went for a New SsangYong Tivoli XLV in the end & so glad i did 5 year warranty & Roadside assistance plus 3 years free servicing Its a great car I wouldve probably gone for The mazda 6 as Ive owned 3 of them but as i say Mad Money for what your getting..I think The Fiat Spyder is selling better than its MX-5 Bro because of the Smaller tax band 1.4L engine....I think the mazda marketing is fairly Low key since they split with Ford Theyve a new Tie up with Toyota..
