New Mexico Sluicing For Gold!

Ventured over to a local creek to work with the sluice in attempt to find that New Mexico gold. Did find some so that always makes for a great day!

Wonderful editing - makes you look like a kind , sharing , generous , pleasant man. You wanna find gold you need to think like a piece of gold. Gold is lazy , likes to sit on the couch. It sure as heck don't wanna go burying itself under some big-arsed rock. Keep working on your detective skills , but write down the clues otherwise they all seem to cancel each other out and you end up with Gold is where you find it.

Thanks GoldSluice! Yeah I have a binder that I record every single thing I do, when I go out. I like that, "gold is lazy, likes to sit on the couch" really good advice right there! I was going for gold that may have been there for hundreds of years by going under the rock hoping no one else had tried that spot with in the last hundred years. Was still fun to get and harass my prospecting partner though!

Thanks DadSquatch, yeah there is gold there but it being a Natiinal Forest area digging and tearing up shit it very limited so any time I go there it's just to get out of the house to get some exercise!

First time my brother and I were there, it was crowded. Hikers would stand and gawk for hours. Most of them couldn't believe they were walking on gold. ETA: IIRC, we got 9 specks of flour

This brings back so many memories of my gold panning days. The downstream side is always the best. We used to have a dredger that went in the water. It sat on an innertube. That is right. The couple that pan's together stays together. That is cute. You two work well together. That is so cool to have apple trees in the boonies. How do they taste? That might be a great area. Surprisingly they were sweet some of the wild ones that grow around here can not be so good but there were fantastic! That's why I took extra home to throw in my ground

So that is what the documentation means when it says "trace amounts" of gold in the area washes / creeks. Ya got to find that "cemented gravels" that were producing a few dollars per man per day in the area back during the depression (and I assume before). I say before because I have a journal from a 49ner that passed through on the southern trail to California via Santa Fe and he wrote of witnessing workings near the village.

I assume most of it. I don't know where the old placer workings are. I assume in the gullies you can see as you pass through ...but that is total speculation on my part. I'm sure folks that have lived here for a long time have great knowledge on it. @@Goldpan-SuntanNM

I love these videos for more than the gold. I have preconceived notions of some states like NM I think desert and that’s it, not green forest with apple trees wow. Also, I bet you’ve had that gold pan for some years now 😂. Hey it still works! Maybe it’s your lucky pan? And a woman that pans gold with you definitely a keeper!

Well about 3/4 of it is desert but not the other 1/4. Had that pan probably 25 or 26 years and just can't bear to throw it in the trash haha. Sometimes she is as stubborn as a mule but I find ways to rope her into going 🤣🤣

I haven't necessary made a video of that pan. Pretty damn good idea to make a video about it since it's so beat up. Long story short though, got that thing about 25 or 27 years ago. It's been used over the years for all kinds of misc taks around the house. Since it's so old the plastic has dried out and is now pretty brittle. It cracks, I repair it. It's so sentimental to me I'm thinking when the final ship goes down and I get laid to rest someone ought to lob the thing in my casket 🤣🤣 Most of the cracks are welded with a soldering iron and then I throw a bead of hot glue on top of the weld. It's a patch job but seems to work half assed. Name of pan is Frankie, short for Frankenstien and it lives another day to tell another tail!
