An overnight prospecting trip to search for new gold deposits. We head out with our aims high pack rafting and camping our way down the river.
While working a deposit we have previously sniped from the last trip we discover a trail of gold nuggets deposited in a rather unusual location.
Nugget after nugget the boys race to see what they can find buried in this beautiful remote river of Tasmania.

The old timers used to stack the rocks in the middle of the river and then they could push the water to one side and work the other. I guess if what they found at the sides wasn’t worth the effort to move the rocks again they didn’t bother working the middle. Definitely seen places where gold was only in the center of the river here in Nz.

A wing dam would be pretty obvious if that were the case. Many a wing dam here in the creeks of Otago NZ. Didn't appear to be any sign of a wing dam as Levi mentioned numerous times at the lack of material barely covering the gold on & in the bedrock.

Great mates trip this episode 👌. My thoughts on why the pay streak being in the middle of the river, ahead of the rapids, is the approaching rock shelf is creating a low pressure area where the gold is accumulating and being flushed out of a deeper section up onto the shallow bedrock. Could be worth checking a little bit back upstream for an angled feeder channelling into the centre of the river. Cheers 🍻

Another great video Levi. My dad is an old gold miner and he always told me the gold in the river is where you find it, it doesn't always deposit where we think it should. I think it's always a good idea to spot check any bedrock that looks good regardless of where it is on the river. Great to see a new video from you, I always enjoy them.

Love it, great adventure Levi. I reckon the thin slate like darker shards of surface rock that fell off may be cambium type protective layer on the bedrock. Super lucky spot to be right on the surface layer👍

Levi, I strongly recommend trying a 3 tined garden tool for moving bulk gravels. Works like a charm and saves the fingers in your gloves. It just has to have a good handle that won’t come off.

You might find in high water that bit of the river acts like a sluice box catching any gold bouncing down the river just goes to show that sometimes you just have to check the unlikeliest spots out as well. Great video Levi, i like you enjoy solo missions(fishing)but you cant beat having your mates with you. 👍
