Once I was carrying a speed square down the back of my jeans. I sat down and the thing totally violated me. I'd have been grateful for a couple of inches less penetration. They could use this as marketing?

I bought the square after watching this video. I like scribing notches and the quality of materials as well as the laser etched marks. but after a simple test to determine if it was really 90° it turns out that it's about 1/32 out of square over 4 inches which is a considerable amount of error for finish work. Especially considering that a speed square isn't adjustable like a combination square and it should be machined perfectly to 90°. I can't believe that a company as big as Milwaukee with such a reputation can't even deliver an accurate tool.

After seeing this video I made my 3 hour round trip to my nearest Home Depot and bought this square. I really think I'm going to love this square for trim work. Great product. I would have not known it was available if I hadn't seen it here first.

The notches? I'm sold! Especially when cutting 1-3 inch rips of drywall 10-12 feet long! Too short to hold a razor knife and tape measure together. Chalk line is okay but takes so much time when working solo! The notch with a pencil (or maybe even with razor?) is huge! Slide it right along in no time. Thanks, Vince, hope your Christmas went great and God bless!😁👍✌

I've been using this along with the 7inch for awhile now. Mostly using it on sunrooms, it fits nicely in the tracks and they are only 3.25 inch thick walls. Use it to get into tight spaces and even with the 7 to transfer lines. It's not a replacement to the 7 but a supplement for me and I love it.

Good and useful little square. I just bought two of them. I use it now for electrical installs, panel boxes and saw blade square adjustments... faster then a tape and not too big. I do not use it for framing at all but I'll use it for marking. Two things though 1- the edges are quite sharp, real sharp and I had to I dull them out with a very fine sandpaper, 2- the markings are not bright white but are more of a beige like colour. Not as bright as the marketing images want your to believe. Future upgrades wanted - To have an incorporated mini level in it like the Martinez (also on the bigger one) and to have an even smaller model... say 3 1/2" max like Woodpecker. Best of all worlds.

Great video Vince! I just picked up one of those trims squares at my local Home Depot. Seems versatile enough but the compact size is what really makes it a hit. I agree totally Vince. What I like most is the contrast, you can clearly see the numbers. I've noticed that lately most of them are the same color.. I've seen green, Orange, silver and grey. Stanley has one that is nice black with yellow numbers. Very visible !!! This was a fun short video. With all the fuss over power tools, we overlook the basic tools sometimes. Thanks Vince !! Thanks for the review. One remark though. "Aluminum" is North American spelling whereas "Aluminium" is British spelling. It's exactly the same material. Aluminum that corrodes, is called Aluminum Oxide. It forms a thin layer that prevents further corrosion.

I carry a small trim pouch for working in kitchens, baths, and doing flooring. It has a small slot in it that fits a 7" s.s. but it sticks out a bit when I holster it. This trim s.s. fits perfectly in their; it's light, has good heft to it, edges are more crisp than other squares I own, and I love the machining etches or marks/chatter on the edges that make a nice zip sound when I slide it along the workpiece or lumber. Compare it to other squares out there from Stanley or Swanson and you will see the difference in the small details that make this speed square a cut above. Pun intended.

Vince, In actuality the red anodized surface on the trim square is a thicker layer of aluminum oxide (the stuff that forms on the surface when aluminum corrodes), thereby preventing additional corrosion. Pretty much forever. "Al-you-min-ee-yum" is just the way the folks across the pond pronounce "A-loo-min-um." (But the joke's on us because in our pronunciation we use the syllable 'loo' on this side of the pond. The Brits will get that joke. :) ) Even so, your bare aluminum square won't corrode any more because it already did so within seconds when it came out of the manufacturing shop. But the red anodize looks prettier.

Small squares and torpedo levels are great. EVERYONE should have them in their tool pouch , no matter which trade they are. It only takes a second to check when you are mounting something, etc... and no one's "eye" is as good as the tool, especially up close. The big stuff is great too, when you are building bigger stuff. Definitely a place for both sets of gear... but the small stuff is handy!

I may have to pick one up. I'm glad it's made in USA. I wish Milwaukee or really TTI would move the hand tool manufacturing back here (then I'd be more willing to buy their hand tools). The one big problem for me is the laser etching. Every single tool, hand or power that uses laser etching for measurements, reference marks, or labels wears off in about a year or two in my experience. Maybe this will last longer but it will eventually wear off there's no doubt about it.

Vince, good video, but I have to correct one thing. I started laughing when you started saying that "aluminum when exposed to oxygen makes aluminium". It's the same word just pronounced differently. Aluminum, when it oxidizes, makes aluminum oxide. Other than that I think you do an excellent job of your reviews, new product offerings, and of course TTR! You've been an inspiration for my new business, and have been a wellspring of information I've needed to start outfitting as I grow my business. Thank you Vince! And the rest of the VCG Crew.

It became "Aluminum" because of a spelling mistake by an American.... allegedly... 😑 I don't understand Robert Masseys' comment about "It seems like you've never traveled outside of the US before. Aluminium is a major problem in some places...." The context of the original comment was Vinces' apparent confusion about "Aluminum" becoming Aluminium when exposed to oxygen... not the availability or otherwise of the said material. As it happens, Aluminium is one of the most common metals (8% of the earth's crust) but it's the processing that is somewhat time consuming. And, yes aluminium ( checkout the spelling on the periodic table of elements) will oxidise, as will most elements in some way or another... Love the VCG channel and Vince's unique way of presentation... 😀👍
