This is a video of me testing out and playing with two new things: my new Yamaha mixer board and Adobe Premiere Pro's multi-camera editing.

You're using gain/volume inappropriately. Think of gain as the major adjustments and volume as fine tuning. Set your gain to the indicator triangle printed under the knob, then adjust the volume to your desired level. If you are still getting hissing it's from too much compression. You're using 50% compression and that's a lot.

Can you hook up an Android Smartphone to the Yamaha MG10XU Mixer for the purpose of recording (with software on PC of course) a two-way phone conversation for a podcast? If the answer is yes, what would the connections be on this Mixing Board?

What’s up dude, this video popped up on my feed after looking at yeti mics. 1 tip I have with mics is that the gain needs to be set low enough to not clip, but high enough to reduce the noise floor. If you set the gain all the way down, your also mixing in the noise floor. Also some mics sound better when the preamp in pushed almost to clipping. If you keep the gain down and just push up the volume then you’re also raising the noise floor of the mic and preamp.

New to mixers, but how would you integrate this into a system that you already have a headphone amp for. For me I ha e Jotunheim with Dac. Using a mixer essentially would do the same as the jot but maybe not as well? With added audio output setting on the mixer of course

Read somewhere on Blue's website to keep the gain on the yeti all the way down when Yeti Pro with a mixer or preamp. That may be a reason you're clipping as soon as you touch the gain control on the mixer. Also, why did you choose a mixer over let's say an audio interface, for example the FocusRite Scarlett Solo or 2i2?

Sir i have bought mg10xu for home recording purpose ,but when i strat to record ,i found that my mixer gave me recording vocal output along with very irritating hissing sound ,also recorded vocal output is very low in sound .so does this means my mg10xu is a faulty unit ,bcoz in your video ,the sound is amazing louder and noice free . Please help me by replying,thankyou

So does the grey mute button actually mute the headphones output? Like example does it mute the other people talking in ur headphones I’m just trying to mute other players voices in my stream

Where would you plug the XLR Speaker through? I plug my XLR speaker via the side Yamaha XLR plug. For some reason it does not have sound output via speaker. The computer detect the sound though.

you could use the FX Send and just send certain channels to your camera. I use this output as a separate clean(voice only) to my Mic in input on my computer so i can use Discord chat during game play. I use all analog outputs and not the USB to computer. my mixer stereo out goes to Line in on the computer. Works great and love this mixer. Nice video. I also need to learn about gain. I have the NT1 mic and i clip a lot if i turn the gain up which is normal but i cant even get the peak graph thing to pick up really. oh well, it works for my stream. Thanks!

Hi, thank you for the video. Just a quick question, how did you plug the computer? I mean I can't record the voice with the FX. I applied them and I can hear it but when I go to listen to the recording it sound pretty much normal. Thank you again.

Hello there! There's an article on reverb.com that states each channel can use a different effect. I haven't seen anyone use this mixer to actually MIX, everyone just plugs into one channel and turns knobs. I often think what the point is in including so many effects, and yet bussing all channels into only one effect. Does this Yamaha do any different in a real mixing application? Thank you! :)

Hey man I have a question. I plug into my laptop I use Adobe I get a horrible static when I record. And when i use live effects on the daw i cant hear them when i record. Another question soon as I plug it into the computer i can hear myself on the mic before i open up adobe i use to never have this problem on a maudio interface what can I do?

Good video. Thank you. I have the MG16XU version.... However, I cannot get audio to go from my mixer to my dedicated streaming computer to feed OBS. What am I doing wrong? (My computer has an i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20 GHz, 16GB RAM, 64-bit OS, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and 1 TB HD.) I downloaded and installed Yamaha's Steinberg USB Driver V1.9.10-2 for Win 10/8.1/7 (SP1) (32bit/64bit) driver. I have a USB 2.0 cable going from the mixer to my computer. I have tried both the computer's USB 2.0 and 3.0 inputs. The computer's device manager recognizes the MG-XU, and it is set as the default sound input. The mixer's level meter displays appropriate levels. I have tried setting the LINE / USB to either setting to no avail. The mixer works fine, but I am not getting any audio level in OBS Studio. What am I doing wrong? Tom Jr.

Ps. Don't turn the FX Master all the way up. Same principle: the master is major adjustments the channel FX knob is for fine tuning. Use about ½ of the master knob.

@@alexcohen4784 If you only use the USB connection, you will hear all the audio (including yourself), but you'll also be sending that audio back to your PC (so people on Discord would hear themselves as well as your computer audio). To fix this, you will need to connect your mixer to your PC using analog cables asweel in order to split the channels the sound go to. The way I'm setup, I've set my PC audio output to the USB (MG-XU). I also have a single male 1/8" to double male 1/4" going from my analog Line Out on my PC to a Line In on my mixer, and Discord is set to output on that. Then for my Mic, I have a single male 1/4" to male 1/8" cable going from the FX Send on my mixer to the Mic In on my PC. I set that up as my mic input in Windows and Discord. This allows me to send my Mic to the PC, but not have people on Discord hear my PC audio or themselves, as long as only the FX knob of your Mic line on the mixer as actually turned up (cause this is what you are sending to your Mic In on your PC). I can also independently change the volume of my desktop and Discord straight from the mixer. This also allows you to record all 3 seperatly in say OBS, as they are now 3 separate Inputs/Outputs. So im using a scarlett solo 2nd gen right now with an at 2035. Im starting a podcast in the near future and will be needing a mixer for the purpose of extra microphones and the ability to eq and run the compressor for the livestream. I plan on selling my scarlett solo and itrack solo to put towards this yamaha board so how well does it work as an interface? Are the preamps on this as good as the 2nd gen focuswrite ones or is it going to be a problem using this as a dedicated interface?

Interfaces and mixers are two different types of hardware. Mixers like this one aren't meant to separate each instrument into different tracks like you can with many of the interfaces.

I'm new to using preamp and mixer's. I also have the Blue Yeti Pro and I like the yamaha you are using. How are you connecting the Blue Yeti to the preamp/mixer? I have a XLR cable that has the R and L or red and white that comes with the Yeti Pro. I can only see one cable you have going into the mic input? Did you just buy a new cable XLR and run it from the Yeti to the input. Since the Yeti is a 6 pin out and it looks like the input is a 3 pin? I'm just trying to figure out how to connect them? Didn't know if I needed another cable for this or an adapter? Thanks and great vid..

Actually Doc I think you mean the Yeti Pro is a 5 pin. Regardless, I had the same questions as well. My mixer came with 3 pin XLR mic cables but the Yeti has a 5 pin male connection. I just purchased an adapter from Amazon that I'm hoping will do the trick but I was at least wondering if Jay answered your question and let you know how he connected them.

No I never got a response but I just use the adapter that came with the pro and only use the white plug to go into the Yamah mixer I have. I have also plugged both into the mixer for the stereo mode. But most of my stuff is non-stereo mode and it works great.

For some reason people are blaming lack of water or lack of bad microphone for the mouth sounds... IT’S THE COMPRESSOR! This is a decent little demo on the MG10XU, he goes on a couple tangents but it’s a good personalized take on the equipment and what he’s using it for :)

was hoping you could help, i have mixer with the rode nta1 xlr. im getting all the desktop audio coming through my mic output. i have all other audio devices disabled. however in the audio manager i only have mx-gu line 2, so i assume its seeing one device and capturing all audio to both devices? how do i get them seperate? using usb from mixer to pc. headphones are plugged in where yours are

PayneY_Y i think i fixed mine, im not home to see the exact name on the button, but the red switch above line 9/10 volume knob was pressed in on mine, i pressed to release it and believe that fixed mine, havent been able to test in discord yet but obs showed that it was working correctly, if that doesnt work, reply back and ill double check mine this afternoon

man, you need to press that pad switch and then set a proper gain for the mic. This happens if you have "too sensitive" mics

Which part are you referring to/could you elaborate? I was wondering how to use that switch, so I pressed it and upped the gain, but it sounded the same as no gain without the pad.

Hi, i'm kinda new to audio but i'm pretty sure that is a -20 dB switch so with mics like a condenser that are too sensitive, so you wanna press the pad and then start pulling up the gain until you see the clipping at loudest parts, then back it up a little bit and that should be optimal level for recording

Depends on what you are using it for. If you are doing recordings then you would obviously need software for that purpose. Other than that though, all you would need out of the box are the drivers for the usb connection (if you wanted to connect via usb).

You may want to practice not smacking your lips or adjusting your tongue so much when you're so close to the mic. All the bodily noises are fairly hard to listen past given they're so frequent.

Came here to say the same. It's all I could focus on. Sounds like an old person clicking their dentures and swallowing every 5 seconds. Maybe if he learned how to use it before trying to do a demo, he could have filtered that out. Don't know what gain is? lol! Guy should title his video: "I bought this, now watch me turn all the knobs. They do things."

This is a good lesson in why it's not necessarily a good thing to have the most advanced, responsive condenser mic you can afford...when you still haven't mastered professional mic technique. More responsive just means better pickup...of everything! Also, with that two 3 camera shoot, you can easily edit out the gulps by switching camera views while still appearing visually & auditorally smooth...

Jonathan Bertelle it is midi. so yes but you will need to install a driver for it if using windows. if mac, set up in midi settings

Why don't you learn how to use it before you try to explain it to people. The first part of this video all you do is show your toys. Then you know nothing about gain and volume. Only thing I found out is you like to see yourself on camera. Next time read the manual and play with it so you know what you are talking about!
