How to set up the Yamaha MG10XU and ZOOM to live stream. After seeing all the DJs and pastors looking for options to broadcast, I though it was only right to make this. Plus all the phone calls for help are overwhelming. lol Please like and subscribe!
Buy the gear here:
Yamaha MG10XU amzn.to/3chz7Tx
iHome USB 3.0 to USBC Adaptor: amzn.to/3rd2Cel
Hyperdrive amzn.to/3f6DiV5
Shure QLXD124/85 Handheld and Body Pack amzn.to/2N4cVDA
OnStage 2970B Kick Mic Stand amzn.to/3r61OrF
I forgot to mention the "mix minus". So there is a red switch above the master volume of the "USB Channel 9/10" for routing it to the monitor(up position) or stereo master(down position). In my video it was in the "up position" so the audio input from my MAC through usb 9/10 went to the monitor source(my head phones) automatically. This way the audio will not go back out to the main mix or back into the Zoom meeting. Now if that red switch had been in the down position, the audio from the USB 9/10 would have been routed into the main mix which would have caused feedback in the meeting.
Gain: really get a good gain structure, with the channel volume down, our up the channel gain while talking on the mic until you see the clip light near the channel button then back off the gain about a quarter turn. After that, set the master volume to the 3 o'clock then adjust the channel volume to about 0db on the master meter. Shout out to Bob.

Thank you so much for this tutorial G Fire Productions. You have gotten me out of a serious bind. I have done so many rigorous test. I was stuck on the usb connection from the board to the mac. I had everything plugged up right. The sound wasn't coming through like it should have. I followed all of your steps. Each step helped me troubleshoot thoroughly. Brother you have made my day for sure. Keep up the good work and God bless you.

Great info! fyi Channels 1 through 4 are stereo, 5/6, 7/8, 9/10 are mono. So you could plug say an ipad and an electric guitar into each individual ts/dmx port on 5/6 and each with their own individual cable . Issue here is that now both devices are sharing a single set of eq/volume/effects knobs. Sneaky "fine print" advertising from the manufacturers but technically true, 10 independent "plug ins" really lol.
@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions 6 месяцев назад
I know and that's kind of my little beef with them. So typically on 5/6 7/8 and 9/10, I use an iPad or stereo keyboard or something like that. I would never split two different instruments like a guitar on channel 5 and and mono keyboard on channel 6 because like you said you have to share the same EQ values and then play the l/r balance game in addition to balancing that fader level with all the other channels. These manufacturers with their technical details are a mess lol. Thanks for watching.

@gfire_productions

Hello Darian and thanks for watching and supporting our channel. I did not do any live switching so this video was made from the recordings of three different devices then edit it with iMovie. Camera recording 1: Cannon 90D for main camera on me Camera recording 2 iPhone 6 for close up of the mixer demo Camera recording 3 MacBook Face for Zoom Screen recording to show what I was doing in Zoom. All of the video recordings combined was edited with the iMovie program on the MacBook. This was probably one of my most difficult edits because I was trying to remember how to align everything up with me speaking versus what I was doing from the different recorded sources. I do not own any ATM switching devices and since then have been using OBS which is a software-based switching program so recording is done a lot faster and so is editing for me. And of course now all of my audio goes through my Yamaha MG10XU. Here is how I get my cameras in OBS now: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uCNbh0z12-A.html

I'll try my friend. I don't use windows or PC but make sure on the Yamaha's mic channel, the "26db PAD" button is in the up position. Double check the gain structure on the mic channel. Also I'm not sure what mic you are using but some mics like the the Shure SM7B have been known to be a little on the low side with volume so some people use a DB line booster(I don't use this). Then there is the settings of you PC audio to check, again I don't use windows but you need to check to see if that is affecting your volume also.. Lastly take you time to check Zoom audio settings accordingly. I hope this helps. please let me know when you fix it and what was the issue. Well wishes Tony.

@gfire_productions

Hello Ria and thanks for watching. Unfortunately I don't do karaoke live so It would be kind of difficult to assist with that. If I were even to consider a production of the level by then I would be using my OBS program which would allow me to more seamlessly share my screen (for karaoke videos) online. For audio all of my mics and any audio devices would input to the Yamaha basic mixer and the mixer's audio would then be plugged into the focus rite. The focusrite would be the interface for online audio.

@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions 3 года назад
I've don that as well. You'll still have to follow the simple microphone rules by not getting too close to Speakers which will cost feedback. Or otherwise in the room instead of wearing your headphones everyone will be listening to the speakers. So pleasure speakers in a way that they won't make their way back to the microphone you are speaking in and you shouldn't have any issues.

Very useful video. Thank you. Can't you play the music track on the Mac Book itself and feed in via USB to the mixer and then return to Zoom? What are the drawbacks of that approach?
@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions 3 года назад
Hello Anu. I don't think that will work out and may cause a feedback loop. When Zoom is fed into the mixer via USB, you cannot intern send that channel back out in the mix without causing a feedback issue. That is why I used my iPad as an independent music source that everyone can listen to while in a conference.

@@gfire_productions Thank you very much for getting back. Would you mind testing this scenario, that I use in my singing sessions via Zoom? That will be a great tutorial for those using Zoom and MG10UX for the same purpose.

@@anupebotuwa4483 Ok bro I've ran two scenarios. 1: everything is hooked up and all settings are exactly like what's in the video in addition to turning up the volume on channel 9/10 USB button pressed down, to allow Apple Music to come through into the mixer. With only myself in the meeting on my MacBook, I hear an echo of myself in the headphones from the mixer because the microphone is directly into the mixer which goes into zoom via usb cable and back out of zoom via the same usb cable into the mixer on channel 9/10 volume which is delayed. This is why I'm hearing an echo of myself in my headphones. 2. Everything is hooked up exactly like scenario number one but now I have allowed my cell phone to be in this meeting with my MacBook. The problem I am having with this scenario is my lapel mic is picking up my phone which is not only causing feedback but I have a third echo in my headphones coming from my mixer. 3. All settings are the same but in this scenario I put my lapel mic body pack only in a separate room and played a Music device to send some kind of audio through the lapel mic. My phone is also in the meeting but still in the room with the mixer and MacBook. IN THE HEADPHONES: the lapel mic audio has no echo, Apple Music via usb cable has no echo, speaking into the phone via Zoom has no echo. IN THE PHONE. myself Bottom line, when you turn up channel 9/10 to get music into zoom via usb cable the the mixer is also sending audio to zoom you'll have an echo to yourself in the head phones, the MacBook speakers if you go that route and/or to the other guest (when they speak they will hear themselves on their devices). What I would do is use another free channel on my mixer with a seperate Mac or pc to play backing tracks or in my case an iPad.

@@gfire_productions Thank you very much, bro, for taking the time to test the scenario. The way the video ended, the return audio from zoom was showing active on the led meter. Does not that mean it is going back out in the main mix? Shouldn’t it be going to the headphones only?

Hello Dan and thanks for bring that to my attention.I forgot to mention the "mix minus". Now if that red switch had been in the down position, the audio from the USB 9/10 would have been routed into the main mix which would have caused feedback in the meeting.Good observation brother.

G Fire Productions most mixers in that price range and below don’t have that “headphone pfl preview” function and thus are unusable for zoom/Skype and overdub recording into a DAW so I’m glad this one has it. I checked out cheaper Behringer and Soundcraft mixers but they all didn’t have that. - by the way the usb is independent from the master level and the master LEDs so you have to check the levels inside zoom/Skype not on the mixer as the master is louder than the usb. If that makes sense.

When I hook up my Iphone to this mixer via the Iphone Headjack, I am able to hear the music clearly through OBS but it sounds muddied as if it is barely being picked up in the recording playback when I listen to it. What is causing this?
@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions 3 года назад
I'm not sure why your iPhone is sounding muffled but in the past I did clean out some lint from the 3.5 mm headphone jack with a paper clip. Other issues to watch out for some make sure you have good connections with any adapters and check the settings on any software you're using and especially OBS. Other than that I can't think of anything else at the moment and I do hope this helps. Please let me know if it does thanks for watching. Don't forget to make sure the volume on your phone is turned up as well.

@@gfire_productions Thank you for responding. When I say the music sounds muddied is after I record and listen to the recording. I'm not sure if when I stream the music is coming out muddied to the viewer or is it only sounding like that in the recorded version. The music as it's playing into my headphones is great.

Dominicaines Missionnaires Adoratrices il y a 7 heures In your video about MG10XU, I have trouble understanding something because I am working with MG12XU. When you speak about a button beside the volume meter - a red button that has to be up. In the MG12, beside the volume slide, there are two buttons: one grey where it is written 1-2 and the red one that is the stereo button. What must I do here to be able to have the sound come back from ZOOM to the Yamaha. Could you explain this for me? Thank you.
@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions 3 года назад
Hello DMA. on the MG12XU the button 1-2 pressed down will assign that channel to the group fader next to the master fader. Pressing the ST button down does will assign the channel directly to the stereo master fader(the red fader all the way to the right. On your mixer the USB/LINE button is just below the RCA inputs so you'll have to press the USB/line button to the down position to hear audio coming back from Zoom. Let me know if that works. Thanks for watching and please consider subscribing.

Have a question in mind. When m doing Facebook live with this mixer i'm adding reverb when i'm singing. But when I'm talking/interacting with people I don't like to add reverb to my speech. How to control this with this mixer ? should I turn off the Fx button while giving speech ? please help !!
@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions 3 года назад
Hello Andyshub. I'd recommend using the white effects knob on your mic channel to turn it up or down as needed. This will only affect that channel so if you have reverb on any other instruments or channels it will not disturb those settings. But if you adjust the master "FX" button next to the master volume knob, it will shut down or turn up any effects on every channel. I hope this helps let me know if it works for you.

Hello sir , I have 1 question but before that please forgive my bad English since it is not my primary language so I hope you can understand and help me, have struggled with this for 1 month I Will try my best to explain the condition: So the main point is if you choose the mixer as the "microphone" on the mac setting and the zoom setting as well, the voice/signal from other people will get into the mixer's headphone (ya that is our purpose), but in other way, it becomes an input signal and then our microphone (mic on channel 1 mixer) also an input, so in this case, we have 2 input signal? and what happened next is every time I try to speak (ofc through the mic on channel 1) it becomes in conflict with the input signal that coming from the zoom (which if there are 2-4 people talking together, the signal become strong and our voice from channel 1 will not pass). It same when I play a music on the laptop, it will be heard on the headphone right? The output getting signal, but also the input gets the same signal which does not happen when we use the built-in audio driver. I really hope you understand this problem :D and please help me. Why I'm using a mixer because I want to talk through my dynamic microphone and listen the zoom audio from an active speaker
@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions 2 года назад
Hello Rio, in the audio settings of Zoom, there's a block you can check called Eco cancel. This will help you when you are monitoring with your computer speakers or some external speakers connected to your mixer with feeding back into the zoom program and then back into your speakers again is called feedback loop. The echo cancel feature is limited though so you still have to follow good microphone and speaker placement to avoid feedback in the first place. Another good practice is to maybe have guests who are not speaking to mute their microphones until they actually need to speak. Now as far as music playing from your MacBook remember all audio from your MacBook will go through that USB cable back to the Yamaha mixer. So if you want to play music I highly suggest get another device and hook it to another channel in the Yamaha mixer as I did with the iPad. That way the only audio coming from your computer should be people speaking on zoom and then you can hear it through your mixers headphones or speakers if you choose to use them.

@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions 11 месяцев назад
@@janya80085 you still have to follow the basic principles of how to use a microphone in the presence of the speaker. If I zoom with just my laptop talking through my laptop mic and using my laptop speakers, if my laptops volume is turned up too much the speaker sound will go into the microphone is causing feedback. So I have to turn down the volume of my laptop. If you want to use your speakers from the mixer, you still have to follow the same principles and what you don't want is the volume from your speaker to go onto the microphone which will cause feedback. So get your speaker for away from your mic so you can hear it but not so loud that it is picked up by your microphone. I hope this helps.

@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions 3 года назад
Hello Geetesh. I'll try but there are too many unknown variables for me. Here's what I suggest though. Will you check your game structure and make sure the metering on your microphone is around zero DB on the mixer. To my channel does have a 26DB pad button so when you press that it will lower the overall channel volume by 26 DB. This matters if you're using a standard dynamic microphone like a sure SM 58 wired. Certain microphones are known to have low volumes so again you have to make sure you're getting up on the mixer accordingly. In the past I have made the mistake of getting down my wireless mic receiver so make sure if you have a wireless receiver with built-in gain control it is set to 0DB. Some Mike's to require 48 foot phantom power but make sure you read the instructions for the mic carefully before you turn it on. For the output too soon make sure you turn it up more if you need to. Other than that that's all I could think of at the moment looking at my mixer and everything I use. What microphone system do you use with your Yamaha MG10XU?
@bobmoore2159
@bobmoore2159 3 года назад
Your gain structure is incorrect, you should start with the level off and increase the gain until you get jus below clipping. Then increase the level. This reduces the signal to noise ratio of the signal as it is tent to the mains. The rule of thumb is the mor gain you get before signal processing the less noise you get at the output.
@gfire_productions
@gfire_productions 3 года назад
Thanks you Bob. You're correct with gaining up until clipping and backing off. I really went straight for the setting I normally use with the QLXD Mic. I'l l post it in the comment section.

Bob Moore....WHICH gain should you start at zero and move up? The white button at the top of the row?
@bobmoore2159
@bobmoore2159 3 года назад
@@chrismeans6750 you have two ways to control the signal to your main outputs the first is the gain which is the signal strength as it enters the console from the device connected , ie mic, guitar etc. the second is the level of the signal that you are sending to the main outputs of the console after signal processing, ie eq, effects etc. The stronger the signal you have at the beginning the less you have to increase the level at the end.which lessens the signal to noise ratio at the output.
