Wow, we have some seriously passionate Walther fans. Firstly, I definitely should have done more research on the toolset prior to release. That is on me. However, for a "Gun specific" multitool only 2 of the 7 implements have anything to do with guns. The rest are generic in nature. Even if I give a pass to the quality on those items (which isn't great). The other implements are just thrown into it. Where is the carbon scraper? Sight adjustment tool? And I'm sure there are many other gun specific tools that would have been better than a spare blade or the file that doesn't have any texture. Flame on! Cheers, Dominic

Walthers is primarily a maker of PISTOLS, so there's no sight adjustment tool or carbon scraper needed, in contrast to prior Leatherma, SOG and Gerber tools that are focused on the M16/M4 platform. As for the craptastic file, your criticism of that is dead on.

Or grabbing a spring leg to put it a post...this tool is designed well for gun maintenance. A small 2mm hex bit would be useful to add for some grips and a small punch to push pins through instead of a serradded edge would make it ideal.

By walther for walther pistols. I would have put a dedicated slide release key on there because walthers require a key to unlock the slide to take it off. My buddy had one that he got on the private sell market and it didnt have a key so i had to rig up one out of other things to turn the pivot in the frame to let the slide come off. I believe Ruger uses the same thing or type but their own key has to be used. I know the LC series does anyway.

I looked at the GMT 150 because I'm writing a book on MTs and other pocket tools, even telephoned with the responsible product manager (here in Germany). The file may not be the greatest, but particularly that "weird thing" you didn't understand is very helpful to push an pull springs in weapons. So, as a lot of others correctly stated before, it's a specialized tool. On the one hand it is just that. On the other hand, as you stated yourself, it has got a very interesting form factor for the pliers. As I have commented several times, in comparison to small pliers from Knipex (and also some other companies) EVERY MT pliers fail to help to cope with medium jobs. Even a LM Surge pliers will fail to move a nut of 1/2 or 3/4", or get a grip on something of 20mm or more in width/thickness - which is no problem for a Cobra 150. But a small pair could complement those nicely. The Nextool Sailor and also the SOG power pint are pretty OK in that regard, but on very heavy, clumsy frames. So if you want a size between a real pair of pliers and the Victorinox pliers on SAKs, this fits perfectly... plus all the specific stuff.

@Woowoo88
@Woowoo88 4 месяца назад
It's because that is made for a gun specifically Walthers line of pistols. That's what GMT stands for. Gun Maintenance Tool. That injection molded plastic is called polymer and it's what they make their pistol frames out of. I would also say your gauges are for barrel sizes. If you are going to review things know what they are for.

@Woowoo88 4 месяца назад
@@SgtDuster exactly! Now usually this guy is spot on for the most part but that was not in this video. I bet if he looked up gun multitool he would see a lot more similar to this one. This one isn't a good one in my opinion either. Half that stuff you don't really need to work on a pistol. What you do need is punches to get roll pins out and precision drivers maybe a sight pusher, scraper, etc.
@InvidiousIgnoramus
@InvidiousIgnoramus 4 месяца назад
@@Woowoo88The tip of the file tool is sufficient for poking a roll pin out enough to pull it the rest of the way out with the pliers. Alternatively, just do what I do and keep an equivalent size hex key in your kit.

Dominic this has been mentioned by others but this is a Gun Maintenance Tool. Typically these have a few general tools, some ok others there to fill a slot with a few firearm specific tools especially those pertaining to the brand. Get the point you’re making however I doubt if Walther is trying to get into the full blown multi tool market. Full description below: The Gun Maintenance Tool 150 is a featherweight champion when it comes to gun maintenance. It includes eleven practical tools that together weigh only 66 g for quick help on the shooting range or in the field. Tools: pliers, plain blade, serrated blade, screwdriver, diameter gauge, file (fine and coarse), ruler, cable cutter and spring hook, plus a bottle opener for when youve finished your work. The GMT 150 can be carried almost invisibly on your belt in its nylon pouch.

Glad to see more use of polymers in multitools. Below certain sizes you don't really need the strength of a steel frame anyway (mostly... I know some do). I'm aspleasantly surprised as I was back in the day by the Benchmade Bugout. Trimming excess weight.

I don't EDC a firearm, so some of this stuff I don't care about. I'm not even that keen on a blade at all given that I'd still carry a knife. For a gun specific tool, it needs a small punch (1/16"), a medium punch (1/8"), a flat head, a Phillips head, a 1/4" drive, a micro "pry bar" made of something softer than steel (e.g. polymer, brass, etc.), and parallel pliers. If you are specific to a model (AR, shotgun, etc.), then you may want to add a front sight tool, choke wrench, or something along those lines. It doesn't need a knife blade at all. (How many people are there who carries guns and don't also have a pocketknife already on them?)

It’s a firearm multitool not a standard. That’s why the tools on it are different than your standard set.

I hope Sog also watch and read the powerpint reviews and mods, beacuse with a better scissor and flat screwdriver it would be perfect

Love the size and form factor, but the rest of the tools would have to improve before I was ready to pay $50 for it. It would be cool to see more manufacturers produce tools with a steel frame and then plastic/G10/micarta "scales".

I carry a Gerber Armbar Trade. Suits my needs with a bit driver

Looks like a pretty neat and lightweight option. When you said that basically you need only a blade, Phillips head and flathead on the pliers, my question is, doesn't it make more sense to replace the flathead and Phillips head by a hexbit driver, as in the GOAT tool? I'm curious if you'll mod it that way :)
@maxlvledc

This one is far to small for that..but even if you could..bit drivers can't get into recessed areas.

@@maxlvledc what do you think about a combination with a Leatherman bitholder plus the extender? could that be worth a try? I mean, you're a fantastic modder with an incredible knowledge and skills. do you think it could be worth a try?

I miss my juice’ good flathead and variety of flathead sizes. I bought the powerpint on the obsessive suggestion. Meh. We’lol see if the juice goes back in the pocket.

I like that one to, but like you I wonder what they were thinking when they added the ”tools”. 😵‍💫

They were thinking it's specifically for a Walther firearm.

Kinda like S&W and HK or Winchester knives, this looks like a rebranded B grade tool. I like the thickness though.
