To think that the band (Yes) I fell in love with would still be performing and releasing music almost 50 years later is mind blowing. I realize it's just Jon but Jon doing what he did with Yes.

One of my bf's who is a MAJOR Yesfan told me that, when he heard the opening harmonies for this sing, he wept. For my part, I got goosebumps. Why? Because those of us who love Yes REALLY love Yes, and had pretty much despaired of getting any new songs from Yes. And here it is: the first new Yes song in 20 years. You and I love the same harmonies for the same reasons- but what I love is how complex they are, how the chords change in ways you don't expect (everything with Yes is a surprise), and the vocals always catch the bulk of my attention, but every single person in Band Geeks is Yes-level excellent. You're right, too, that this sounds like 90125 but it also has something ineffable- something purely Jon Anderson. I'm so excited about this song, and this, the Once and Future Yes.

Tell your friend Rob that he's beastly on those keys! From one player to another, fucking radical! And he gets to play with Jon Anderson? Amazing! I only know him from videos, but he's always apparently super into things, and never without a smile.

Jon's musicianship is beyond words. You didn't mention the second keyboard player who adds music with other instruments too. Chris Clark is amazing, as he can play almost anything prog like ELP and Keith Emerson parts, then in a second later play music from Sergei Rachmaninoff. The new album "True" is available pre-order from Jon's website via a link there. I just saw them live, and it was amazing. Thanks for the review of his new music. The band geeks are really really good. They sound and seem to become a version of Yes-live. Be well JP.

Thanks for taking a copyright chance with this Justin. I loved it. The Talk-era comparison is fair. And, other than the Talk artwork and the missing Squire bass, I loved that album. This single bodes well for the rest of the album.

@@TerryKrysinskiWhat I was saying about Squire’s bass was that it was too low in the mix. I don’t know if it was Apple, Mark Of The Unicorn (MOTU), or Trevor Rabin but the trademark Yes bass barely appears on Talk, IMHO.

Some great bass playing and feels similar to something around the TALK era. I really enjoyed it. His voice has improved from the near-death event and the raspy sound of "Survival and Other Stories (2011)/The Living Tree (2010)" which were some real vocal lows in Jon's career.

That's the strongest track I've heard from a Yes-ish artist or group in a long time. I think the Band Geeks having their own identity instead of just being a thrown-together backing band helped this come together. The way the poppy vocals alternate with the proggy instrumental bits probably helps this production. I love Richie Castellano's up-front bass bits.

You need to check out the album True. It was released today. I have been listening to it on repeat. The hype is true, it is a great Jon Anderson album. It is very Yes-like, but it is not a Yes clone either. I'm looking forward to watching your reaction to this album.

It is really good, but it sounds like UNION/TALK And the music does not sound lie THEM, it sounds like they are trying to write a 'Yes" song. That said these musicians are all stellar and have fantastic pedigrees. They play extremely well.

This sounds great! I will always prefer the softer side of Jon Anderson, but I will buy and enjoy anything from him. I am really looking forward to hearing the whole record. As a fan of Blue Oyster Cult, I am very familiar with Richie Castellano. He is not an original member of B.O.C., but has been with the band for many years and several albums.

I have NO CLUE how Jon's voice can sound that good at 80. Perhaps he IS an Alien after all. This song though sounds like something off of 90125. I really hope that their album has less Pop and more Prog; music that sounds more like Perpetual Change, or South Side of the Sky, or And You And I, would be much better received, imo, though fans love Pop Rock, so I'm sure this will do very well, even though it's not Prog.

Musically, I loved it. Lyrically, um, let's just say, when Jon eschews the pot-fogged esoterica of his youth, and tries the straight forward approach, he's just a bit - no, a lot - too much on the nose. I like his lyrics better when I can't understand what he's saying. But I'll get this album for sure. I've been married with (5) kids for thirty-eight years; I have a keen acumen for ignoring human speech when it suits me...

I've just got back from Versaille, I was having tea with Louis XIV, and I thought I'd set my Tardis dates wrong. Listened to this 'new' number (haha), and thought I'd landed back in the middle of the 80's. Jeez, some people just don't know when to retire, and just how many songs can you sing about 'universal bloody love' without realising it's a pipe dream.... Re my comment, think it started well, but got a bit cynical towards the end there 🙂

Exactly! Jon Anderson should definitely be put out to pasture for attempting to create such obviously banal musical drivel at nearly 80 years old. However, your always eloquent and expert Pop/Rock Maven musical analysis will undoubtedly stand the test of time and thankfully continue long into the distant future after all these soppy musical hacks have all been consigned to the ash heap. Bravo!!!👏👏👏
