@@ModernFrontiersman I have a large Alice pack. I was able to find it at junk shop for about $35 with the frame and looked like it was in unissued condition. I was medically discharged in 94, but am 8404 for life. Sempre Fi Marine.

You are correct about weight on your waist being more stable. I've never served in the military, but volunteered in National Forest for 31 years. Gone off trail through the forest, hills, and swamps. Any gear closer to my body helps my balance and lower on my body is more stable. As an old fart with no military experience or training your channel is very helpful.

there are many vids on Utube about Alice Gear, and Molle, and their improvised improvements, etc: my two cents would be that having a dump pouch and the old Butt Pack from Vietnams Era is the two high value items for incorporating in the LBE LBV/chest rig set up. Plus all the other goodies on the belt/chest rig. Weight is a big factor, and if you can't carry it then you don't need it. Always a work in progress as a person, situation, age-strength changes.

It's better in the mountains also, throwing it over the cold weather layers is so much better then having everything hanging on the chest rig

When I was in the Airborne Infantry back in the 90's we never buckled our LBE's, well except when the Sergeant Major came around.

I also went to running a belt harness setup and it is not only extremely comfortable but also versatile. You can still run armor like you showed and could even run a small chest rig in conjunction like the macvsog dudes did to plus up on ammo. The biggest thing is i can make 30lbs worth of gear feel like 10lbs on my hips

This is still the preferred method to wear a fighting load in hot humid environments like jungles. I live in the Southwest US which has hot temps, desert and mountain terrain and find the LBE style (belt/harness) works well. It still works with PCs when necessary but when not 'down range' I see no advantages to 'chest rigs' or carrying methods that does not allow your core to cool - if you're moving you're sweating. Old pics of African 'dangerous game' hunters reveal this style of carry as well. Even with a backpack on (external frame to keep pack off your back for airflow) the front of your core remains exposed for heat release. Those guys in WWII and Vietnam did things the way they did for a reason - not just a lack of technology. If you're just riding your ATV around or 'road hunting' never venturing out of sight of your vehicle - a chest rig makes sense. Covering some miles on foot in rough terrain with 15 to 40 lbs. of gear on will reveal what works.

I got out yesterday and did some moving and shooting, tried out a chest rig for awhile, I like the mag availability, ended up pulling out my lbe and using it. I'm 62 so it wasn't like I was sprinting from point to point😁but I was moving from cover to cover putting 3 rds on each target. Ended up using my old a1 version and that's what I shot the best with, go figure. Thanks for your time and the work you put into your videos. Inspired me to do more than sit at a bench an punch holes in paper👍

I’m an e-tool carrying fool. When we got lazy we put our rifle with the magazine between the front buckle and your stomach into the lazy ready position. LBE gets you closer to the ground. Great stuff, keep it coming.

I just (re)discovered the old school ALICE gear. I should have just started with that. I'd have saved a ton of money. I don't pound on the condor stuff, it gets it done for cheap. In fact I wish I had a few more pouches.

You are for right about people going back to what they did in the past. Case and point . In early 90s when Aimpoint 2000 came out . Teir 1 Untits would run the Aimpoint on top of the fixed carry HANDLE which made it more of heads up posture while shooting . In present day operators are running with High mounts for passive shooting under nods . They are also shedding weight of their Carbines by going with MLOK Rails . They also arent rolling out with 7 to 10 mags either . Fast and Light seems to the trend . Which basically means work smarter not harder. Nice video bro

Good stuff!! I did a little dry rehearsal the other night throwing everything on. Body armor, chest rig, you name it. I carry my pistol in one of the tactical holster rigs strapped to my leg. Keeps it out of the way. Then I threw my rifle on. You’re right. The rifle just doesn’t feel right. Guess I should spend more time with the gear to find what truly works for me. Thanks again!!

Chest rigs are for mounted/CQB operations, that's why we had it in Iraq/Afghanistan. LBE is for everything else. LBE is more comfortable to carry, keep you cooler, lets you breathe better, and dosen't hinder you in the prone. Shoulders are the weakest mustle group in the body, hips are made to carry weight.

I like whatever works. For me its primarily a belt with an H harness and if I want to either a chest rig or PC and maybe a backpack. Recently I've seriously been considering dropping the pistol from my main set for weight and maneuver sake. Thing is you won't know what works and what doesn't if you don't get out and use it. No display rack gear for me.

I am almost 57 years old, and I believe in redundancy. I currently run a pistol belt set up as a battle belt, and a plate carrier without the heavy steel plates I have. I have rifle magazines on both, and my pistol and spare mags on my battle belt. A stop bleed kit on the vest, and just a tourniquet on the belt, as well as a quart canteen. I can add my Get Home Pack to it all if needed. I carry a GPR 16" 5.56mm, or a 20" DMR 5.56mm depending as well. Load bearing equipment was standard in the '80's Army infantry, but I like wearing two separate, but complimentary systems at once.

I still use Alice webbing. Still use a medium Alice pack, with woodland cover. Check out the Columbia army. They still use it too. Including some pretty badass camo. I'm on a quest now to get my hands on a Columbia digital uniform. Lots of militaries still use a suspender and belt set up. It works.

Good goin' ! Got a few tips from you, thanks for the lesson. And grunts on the line , special operators, private citizens all have different needs, requirements, and missions, there is nothing that is wrong and outdated, nor cool and superior because it just came out. The only item I would respectfully suggest is some sort of handgun, concealed or otherwise, that in a worst case if it were necessary to ditch the lbg rig, at least you should have a citizens edc with you.

Like it, have you seen a pair of M-1967 H-suspenders? They had a hook on each shoulder which made it handy to attach a butt pack. I like to carry two one high and one on my belt. Makes it a little lighter for short nature walks. Thanks, I am an old guy like the old stuff.

I think the LBE web belt set up is superior for the civillian armed para milititay survivalist espesially if you have to end up living off the land for extended periods.

I ran this stuff through 3 deployments in central America it works in all environments I ran double but packs can do a week out of them .it is far more cooler the the l.b.v. or the flic in my opinion

What do you think about solid color uniforms? They seem to work pretty well as far as concealment.

I was just thinking instead of layering shoulder straps on say the. Belt/suspender setup and a chest rig With the hybrid chest rig/plate carrier placard. I wondering the placard can be clipped into the suspenders with a clip setup .

Smart. I see too many people setting up their gear based on special operations doing quick, direct action missions with close resupply. You live in a semi-rural area, that might not be ideal.

I see how the carrier and harness could work, but if you had to wear a pack, even just 20lbs, all that would suck to have on your shoulders. 3 sets of shoulder straps just becomes too much. I'd look into a stand alone belt that doesn't require a harness. Im reconfiguring my gear and haven't liked the idea of battle belts, but was just running a chest rig until I got my *fancy* lightweight plates. Now Im figuring out a good balance of less stuff and keeping the weight down.
@alros1212

Belts sag bro- if you’re not in a vehicle and mostly on foot then you will want a harness. You’re not wrong about straps on straps being annoying, but it is a trade off here as opposed to chest rigs- which also add straps btw. There is no comfy way to rock your plate carrier, an LBV/chest rig, and pack- it’s more about making it more comfortable lol
