New Order playing Hurt segued into Temptation live in 1981. Live ~ November 11th, 1981 New York @ the Peppermint Lounge Great fansite: www.neworderonline.com/
This is easily my favorite versions of both of these songs. So many great things about this video, to me this is early New Order at their absolute early shambolic best
This is pretty amazing, they are still working these songs out. Hurt w/ no lyrics and temptation with the early lyrics that change probably at least 2 more times.
Saw them in ‘82 when they headlined Futurama 4 at Deeside. They segued EGG into Temptation beautifully and aired Age of Consent, what we referred to as the Double Deckers Song! (anyone old enough to remember the theme tune from that kids tv programme will know what I mean!)
I love it when songs segue from one to another as effortlessly as Hurt and Temptation do. Barney looks lost and awkward up on stage without a guitar (and under the influence of something). What's really interesting, is that this live version of Temptation is somewhat different to the live version of Temptation that appears on their Taras Shevchenko video, which was recorded just one week later. Both versions are great, yet different - and both are still different to the version that was released as a single in 1982 (but recorded in 1981).
I think Barney was under the influence of something or another during most of those 80s concerts. Hook wrote in his autobiography that there was a drink, was a mix of absinthe and champagne, that Barney took a liking to in those early days.
Mistakes ,faults , not synchro sometimes but great after all ! no matter ! a real live that's all and that's good ! OMG i was just turn 4 yo in 81 !!! RESPECT ! It was hte begining of new order just after Joy division ,we know today what ggreat are NEW ORDER ^^ Grettings from Belgium :)
At around 12:00,"And I've never met anyone as drunk as you before". Barney performed a lot better for the Ukrainian National Home concert because of the recording for Taras Shevchenko? He was a bit aggressive later in the FACT 77 video though. Thanks for posting this,I don't think I heard or watched this gig before. I enjoyed the dancing.
Depended on his mood and the working level of the equipment at the time. Either Hooky or Steve said that back then at some the gigs the "sequencers would sweat". But, yeah, Taras Shevchenko is a great early gig.
I'm not sure when exactly their gear was stolen but it was on this 81 NY tour. Thanks, but I didn't do any post work on the video. I had a "temptation" to work on it but I ripped the video straight from the collectors edition of Movement. Temptation... get it?
@@imc51well put he never imagined he would ever be front off stage................ i think he voice is brilliant and as matured with age some people havent a clue what there mouthing about
