I've also had great success with StripPaint 9900! It took off a botched powder coating job on a set of brake calipers. Like magic!

I just ordered enough to set up a 55gal drum stripping tank What would you say its life span is like

Always great to see another vid from AD. 35.6K subscribers, way to go! That stuff works amazingly well, beats the heck out of running a 5 or 7.5 HP compressor over a couple hundred watt heater. I won't be surprised in the future to see you repurpose a larger stainless tank with a heater and pump to circulate the fluid. Pump it out of the tank and into a sealed container between uses to control evaporation. I've seen chemical tanks indoors fitted with small vent pipes and blowers to evacuate fumes.

Thanks. Good ideas. I will probably go to something more permanent as I go along.

Watched this video hoping to find a good powder coat stripper and was impressed with the results. So I ordered 15 gallons and got a 55 gallon drum with a heater. Put 10 gallons of water in the drum and 10 gallons of the Strippaint 9900 heated the drum to 135 degrees and dropped a wheel in there for 30 minutes. Opened up the drum and pulled the wheel out and 99% of the powder coat just sloughed right off taking it out of the drum. Incredible results, and it was good to know that it will work at 135 degrees which will save time and energy. Thanks for the video, I now have a very good chemical stripping setup albeit not really good for indoors unless you have a substantial fume extractor.

Cool. It's good to see you got results at 135.

Thanks for the tip about the stripper. I had to remove powder coat I sprayed and cured and it took a long time in my blaster.

Depending on the part you can burn the powder coat off with a propane torch just heat it till it stops smoke wear a respiratory then blast it come right off

Put a brick or two in your container to cause the stripper to completely cover the parts. It won't affect anything but the temperature, so if you warmed them in your oven before you start, it would heat your solution more rapidly.

Cling wrap like you have in the kitchen works cheaper as a vapor barrier.

Looks like it works awesome. How in the hell do you dispose of the aftermath left over ?
@844metalman

Seems to be a very effective product. What would be the proper disposal method for the used product?
@ArnoldsDesign
@ArnoldsDesign 2 года назад
It evaporates eventually, so you just have to top it off now and then. The dry paint chips could just go in a plastic bag in the garbage.

That works great although probably unavailable in Australia. What's it like if you get a skin splash?

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place but MSDS is by request only. It may not meet Australian standards for import.

You would have to contact general chemical corporation for availability. I can get you their sales email if you'd like. I don't know about skin contact. I wear safety glasses and gloves though. Face shield would be better.

If I don’t have a abrasive blaster, what can I use to get the oxidation off? I’m thinking of getting into powder coating, the reason why is I’m a disabled veteran and can’t work. Thinking of powder coating as a hobby so I stop driving my wife nuts and to get a little extra cash. I want to take her on our honeymoon as I had emergency surgery and we couldn’t go. Any suggestions on a great powder coating machine I can purchase that isn’t to expensive and works great? I’m going to DIY a powder coating oven that can be taken apart and stored, just need to find a system. I seen one on harbor freight, just has mixed reviews and don’t know if I should get it or not as I’m on a very fixed budget. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks for taking the time to read this and responding.

If you're working with aluminum, you're probably going to need a sand blaster, unless you get into acid cleaning. That requires special hydrofluoric acid mixes that are very toxic. I won't mess with that stuff. For steel, muriatic acid will dissolve rust, but I would still go with a sand blaster, even a cheap portable one, or a harbor freight cabinet. Columbia coatings sells reasonably priced powder guns and powders. I got one for a little over a hundred a while back. No power supply needed, but not as efficient. More powder will be wasted, but I've have very good results as long as prep work is done properly. But you really should blast materials first, then alkaline degrease(water break test), and then phosphate conversion to get good adhesion. For anyone starting into this, I can understand keeping startup costs as low as possible, but don't cut too many corners as to compromise final results. This will only piss off customers, and they won't come back.

I want to remove the powder coat from my kontrol tower from my Kamado Joe thats peeling off. Its aluminum underneath. I haven't seen a bare aluminum Kontrol Tower yet online so Im wondering if this would work.

If it has methylene chloride in it, it might remove some types of powdercoat. I didn't have much luck with that. Urethane powder coat is in the vid. Epoxy is tougher to remove. General Chem Corp has strippers for that too.
@barefoofDr

Get a cheep slovent paint stripper . Then order Lab grade Methylene Chloride to add to the cheep stripper and you are good to go.

@@barefoofDr Sounds interesting. I'm seeing it's getting more difficult to find methylene chloride. It's a shame. I also can't find MEK now. I suppose acetone's next. EPA's out of control in my opinion. Unelected regulators running our lives.
