I traded my G430 Max for the LST at the weekend. I was scared to death with your results in the forgiveness test, but the demo LST seemed ok for me. I was way up on ball speed over the Max at the same loft. 155-158 mph, and it rewards good strikes. I kept it in the kind of middle area and it was just baby fading and with that slight toe, yeah it went straight. Absolutely bang on for my delivery too. When I tried to go after it, I got stuck and it went right, and didn't stop going right for about 40 yards. Scared the life out of me, so yeah swing within yourself, and it'll reward your strike. The Max just felt too light for me, and it did drag through the air. This is less forgiving than the previous two versions, but I don't know, it sort of commands that you concentrate. The problem with the Max is that everyone keeps saying you can throw any swing at it, and it's just not true. The face to path still needs to be decent.
I agree, focus is required for every swing, even a 12" putt. I got the 10K and it's been marvelous after a few really bad rounds and some big adjustments. The adjustments were necessary because the CG is back a bit compared to many modern LS drivers. I focus on every pre-shot and commit to every target and swing. Flow state golf.
I think you are right, we'll at least for the on camera few shots. I think I'd still go for the LST on balance, or maybe the MAX in the 9 degree head so could set it down to 8 degrees 🤔
Hi Jay, interesting results. What do you think is the cut off point for the LST in terms of swing speed? 100mph? Below that I expect the spin rates would be too low to get optimal carry distance. One thing I have seen on TXG with Matt testing driver who swings at a similar speed to you and also has a toe strike tendency is they moved the adjustable weight to the toe, thus making the COG closer to the toe and improving the quality of strike due to the sweet spot being moved accordingly. Something worth experimenting with perhaps?
Hi Jim, doing that can actually have the reverse effect as by moving the weight into the toe and bringing the strike more in line with effective CG, it can cause the golfer to miss further from the toe on miss hits causing much worse results in distance bad dispersion. It's all about the balancing of net results, trying to make the good ones good but the bad ones usable. Moving weight can have the effect of good one is great but the bad is horrid.....👍
Dumb question oh great nutty one, can you put up dispersion graphics as in all on one page, not sure if your Simulator does that. Then do an overall of all the Pingy drivers you have been hitting.
I had the 410 and 425 LST, and used the turbulator lines to define strike. Just move back to the second last on the tow to hit a slight draw, but if I made a boob, i'd get the big hook that made me think i'd said Candyman in the mirror 5 times. TSi3 behaves slightly the same, but I need to line the ball up with the very edge of the toe.
I'm not convinced by the low club head weight trend. Vast majority of weekend duffers, who are my tribe, have big misses because the club head weight is too low IMO. Also because the shafts are too long, grips too small and swings are too wild lol.
All of them are some of the pieces of the handicap puzzle. Ping for a long time have been the stand out brand for the handicap golfer, although all brands now have finally caught on and ate making the biting decision more difficult to make then ever 👍🏻
Just watched Max then LST video.. if i was fitting you it would be Max alllll day.. you literally line ball it and barely lost any yardage. Id just put a couple gram lighter weight or a touch less loft in the Max if you want to chase them 5 yards.
Yeah on balance I'd probably go lowest loft Max head. The LST would give the peak best but I think as an average the low lofted Max would be more playable 👍🏻
Hi Jay, perhaps I missed in the video but Is the LST suited best to your better golfers? I know the max is geared most at your weekend golfer but could same players get the most out of the LST. I actually find the numerous clubs released a little tricky to follow being honest
MAX being slightly higher spin profile, most forgiving. SFT being for faders, less forgiving but draw biased. Higher spin profile. LST for faster swingers which have speed related Spin issues, or any golfer that strikes it ok, but spins it a bit too much. 👍
I had the G400 LST and then the G425 LST, I’ve demo’d both Max and LST in G430 and decided my fast swing days are behind me. I can shift it to about 103-105 if I really clatter it but I’m comfortable with 99-100 and the Max now gives better , more consistent results. Having said that I’m going to keep the 425 LST just in case, normally I sell off all my old gear for fear of ‘new club rejection’ syndrome 🤣
Hi John, that's generally due to the baseline spin profile being a touch too low. Upping the loft a fraction will raise spin profile a touch, maybe compromise max distance but will make the low spin drop outs much more playable 👍
@@AskGolfNut That makes sense. In the end I sold the 9* LST head and went back to my 10.5* standard head. It does go too high (launch and spin) but i can keep it in play. I might try 9* in the standard head but the problem is I like to see some loft on the club face at address.
Very much so, getting the club delivery with strike correct to see the best ball flight dynamics possible means maximising your distance off the tee. Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
Great video. Thanks. Any advice for a 4 handicapper with a 112mph swing speed? I have a stealth 2 plus and I need to replace it as it’s too inconsistent. I generally launch with high spin so if there’s a driver out there that’s forgiving but low spin, would love to hear more. The QI10?
The Ping 10K has a lower spin profile but all the forgiveness. I'd be astonished honestly if anyone could beat Pings version of the 10K due to the design being quite unique sitting between the Max and LST 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut I was hoping you’d say that. I saw a great Peter Finch review where he kept his spin down to 2400 swinging at 115mph. Magic, I’ll start saving my pennies. Have you heard similar complaints about the Stealth 2 plus? Absolute weapon but I’ve no confidence in it anymore and it stays in the bag apart from the wide open par 5s
