I submitted my build in Aventurine last week. Last slot currently available in my region. Can’t wait to see how it compares to the GT4 RS it will share garage space with.

Hi, I have a Cayman GTS 4.0 PDK on order, looking forward to it immensely. Just thought I'd mention that you left out some additional storage spaces: 1) at the bottom of the door sides, and 2) hidden under a lid in the trunk area, just behind the seats, close to the side windows :-).

Great review. Getting mine towards the end of the year. I’ll probably have many bad days at work so I can let off steam by driving this car!

I was following one in a 40 zone and he just drifted back from the car in front as it approached 60. He was doing what I would do, cos then he gunned it. My word what a glorious sound.... for about 2 seconds😂

Probably going to order mine in the next week or so, none available for test drive though so just going to have to bite the bullet and order! Expected delivery would be around january according to my local porsche centre.

Design wise, if a 356C could regenerate itself, this would be it. Brilliant.

The prices are so specific because they’re based on the Euro and just convert it to Pounds by a fixed factor, probably a yearly median. Hence the odd values, instead of having them rounded up🤷‍♂️

Hi everyone! Cam here. Would you go for the GTS 4.0? Or save up and get the GT4? Let me know! Oh, and speaking of the GT4, we may have driven that as well...

Having owned 7 Porsches, do I qualify as a "diehard fan" in your eyes? Lot of sweeping, unfounded generalizations throughout your review. The 718s 4-cylinders are excellent motors by just about any objective metric - mostly better than their predecessors, in fact. And I do know I'm not the only one who's quite comfortable with the sound they make, either. For that matter, this 4.0 doesn't sound as good as the 3.8 in my 981 Spyder, either.

So GTS over a 992…that’s my dilemma. I have a 992 but feel its too big.

Is it worth $40,000 (US) more than a four cylinder? This car is about $100,000 in the US.(after taxes etc))

First, the difference is less than $30,000 in MSRP. Second, you're getting a lot more than a different engine. When you compare apples to apples, the value proposition is quite different than you're making it out to be. The GTS comes standard with basically every performance upgrade Porsche offers. PASM, torque vectoring, sport chrono, and larger brakes. It also comes with Sport Plus seats. If you start optioning those onto the S, they are not cheap and you're going to close most of the price difference real quick. The S ends up at $83,000 (vs $90,000 for the GTS), and it still has less capable brakes. The base Cayman basically is not in the running. It doesn't even have access to the -20mm PASM option, and still lands at $71,000 (less than $20K difference) once you include the upgrades it does have access to. The Cayman T is actually the closest to the GTS, since it also comes standard with PASM, PTV, sport chrono, and the Sport Plus seats. It's a really nice package. I almost bought one. Buuuut... there's the price. You're still paying $74,000 ($16K difference), and you are stuck with both smaller brakes and the base 2.0L engine. On its own, this may be fine, if a little pricey. But then you put it next to the GTS 4.0, and that $16K difference starts to look real small. Especially when you throw another $10,000 in options onto each (which you will if nothing else to maintain competitive resale appeal), and now you're looking at $84,000 vs $100,000.

@@Thuraash1 - Pricing is controlled by dealers and with the market adjustments the bottom line out the door is about $81k for a base four Boxster with few options. The GTS is better but the markup puts it well over $100k. That’s the sad reality now.
@Thuraash1
@Thuraash1 2 года назад
@@rembo183 I ordered one for exactly MSRP as-optioned a few months ago. Customers influence pricing as much as dealers. The problem is that we've got customers willing to pay to jump the queue, and many dealers are ethically loose enough to let them do it. The first dealer I went to told me I probably couldn't get a slot by end of production. The second dealership offered me an allocation for $30K over markup. Their business card ended up in their own trash can. The third dealership was legit: a strong share of allocations, and a zero-ADM zero-bullshit policy.
@rembo183
@rembo183 2 года назад
@@Thuraash1 - There’s only one Porsche dealer in Tallahassee and they require a $4,000 added market adjustment to increase their profit on the base entry level Boxster and Cayman. On the 911 or other special ones like the GT4 the markups are much higher like $25k! I tried to buy a new base minimally optioned Cayman… but wasn’t willing to spend $81,000 out the door. I purchased a beautiful new BMW 230i for only $39,500 which was MSRP. Frankly the manufacturer is losing sales by allowing dealers to control the actual selling price. It’s a bad situation for both consumer and manufacturer. You are correct that some dealers sell fairly but sadly only one dealer for Porsche can do whatever the want. Demand for these cars exceed the limited supply here.
@Thuraash1
@Thuraash1 2 года назад
@@rembo183 They're not really losing sales since they're literally rammed up to capacity and selling everything they build before it's built, but they are getting the wrong kind of customers. Porsche for the most part still enjoys an enthusiast reputation, and they're diluting that by prioritizing these kinds of entitled buyers. You definitely made the intelligent choice, given your options. The problem with lots of the more ethical dealerships is that they heavily prioritize in-territory buyers. They're sacrificing markup potential to chase loyalty and repeat business. If you're out-of-territory, you can't really offer them what they are looking for. I hope you enjoy your BMW and are able to get a Porsche on reasonable terms next go round!

Done a lot of research on this and just ordered my GTS for Q2 2022 delivery (approx 8 months wait). I understand GT4 had its first RHD production run in 2019/20 and second run just started mid 2021 to finish Q1 2022 (all sold out in UK with huge backlist for cancellations). GTS due to run unlimited numbers until 718 replacement model (hybrid) due 2023 model year.

i would gladly buy a smashed up four cyclinder 718 boxster ,do you really need a car that does more than 150 mph in a country where the speed limit is 70 ,give me a electric conversion ? surly i am not the only person who thinks this way?

@johnjackson609 3 года назад
I have a 718 boxster S and I can honestly say that I can't come close to using everything the car can do speed wise. Not sure why you'd need the extra horses except for faster acceleration. Of course one could ask me why I wanted the S versus the base boxster using that logic. I don't have a good answer except that I got a good deal on the S which wasn't much more than the base.

I’ve driven the 2.4 and 4.0 and I can categorically say, the 2.5 picks up MUCH better than the 4.0. Also, with an after market exhaust on a 2.5 you actually end up with a better car. There’s a lot of macho bragging bs spoken about the 4.0. Ask which engine has the best torque?… it ain’t the 4.0. Many motoring hacks just listen to what other journos are saying and don’t seem to be able to think for themselves. Additionally, if you’re a bit older than the little boy presenting this vid you’d probably know that the 2.5 sounds a lot more like traditional Porsches from the 50’s and 60’s.
@trigganometry168
@trigganometry168 2 года назад
Some people just like a linear torque curve and the gradual build up from the rpm’s. Plus doesn’t like the added complexity of turbos and the forced induction stress on a little motor. It’s not alway what old heads say about how great the 4 pots are and how they use to be in the olden days.
@jameswilkinson150
@jameswilkinson150 2 года назад
@@trigganometry168 you will find the 2.5 has a better torque curve than the 4.0. No turbo lag what so ever. Too much puffed up bullshit spoken about the BIG engines. 2.5 is hardly a ‘little’ engine. ‘Old heads’, don’t worry son. 🤣😂
