While Kyle can’t show you any of the technical updates on the new Taycan for another few days, he is able to show charging and range performance of the new electric sedan. In this video Kyle charges up the new J1.2 Taycan facelift and goes for a max range hypermile test to see just how much range you can get out of this car.

This is the first time we’ve ever done a test like this - it’s nice to know what a car could do on max range but my preference is still to drive fast and charge fast! I can’t share any details such as official battery capacity (you can guess from the consumption figures) until later next week. Stay tuned for a full deep dive tour of all of the Taycan PA changes coming to this channel. Tomorrow I will show you the charging performance and IT IS WILD! Thanks for watching - ⚡️

Love the content and channel, but I do have to say this video was cracking me up. "We want to keep it as realistic as possible...", followed by 50mph on a 70mph speed limit highway, not using windshield wipers in the rain, and looking through tiny little holes in a fogged up windshield. You guys are nuts. Keep up the great work, love these videos. Looking forward to the regular range test to see how it stacks up!

The realistic combined range will therefore be 550-600 km and in the city 750-800 km. The most confusing on this test is how many people have poor eyesight or can't read when they don't see the word ‘Hypermile’ in the title of this video.
@drfisheye
@drfisheye 4 месяца назад
15:09 He says he is not hypermiling it. City range is usually worse, because with short drives with lots of accelerations and needing to heat-up or cool-down the interior for every short drive is bad for range. And it's not relevant. Range is only relevant for long drives. For short drives you won't do long distances in a day anyway.

@@MaxSloin Norway it’s very realistic.
@Gazer75
@Gazer75 4 месяца назад
@@MaxSlo By two lane highway do you mean undivided with one lane each direction? If so then in many parts of the world, especially in Europe, trucks are limited to 80-90kmh on any road with som exceptions. In Germany they are actually limited to 60kmh on such roads. Average speed outside of motorways in Norway would be about 70-75kmh on longer trips. Unless you're the type of driver that consider posted limits a minimum and do +10 of the posted limit on the speedo.
@MaxSlo
@MaxSlo 4 месяца назад
No, I mean 2 lanes each way. Trucks may be limited to 90 but more often than not they drive 95 and will get pissed off if anyone would drive even 90 in front of them let alone 77. That's just the ting, highway is a straight line, keeping the same speed improves efficiency, but constantly slowing down for and then accelerating after a turn will bring the consumption numbers off ideal, so those numbers are again not a real representation even for off the highway driving. My average after 80k is 152Wh/km (about 50/50 split of highway and city/country roads), but if I was driving 77 on highway instead of the 100-110 that I do, I have no doubt that the consumption would be very similar to what Kyle got.@@Gazer75

By using the information for multiple videos I calculate a battery capacity of 120 kW/h applying the 5% buffer from your Macan Electric video that should give us a usable capacity of 114 kW/h. Runing the numbers of this drive gives us 97.3 kW/h pulled out of the battery. That would mean ether my previous calcuations are not right or the car has very high degedation. A nother possibility I can think of is that the battery has a buffer of more then 5% to protect the batery while charing at this insane speeds.

@@marcin_lukasik you would be suprised how low the average speed actually is on busy strips of the Autobahn, 80mph would be a pretty high average speed. That means you would drive with 95mph/153km/h in some areas and then get stuck at 70mph/112km/h traffic, speed limited zones or even slower road works sections. So a pretty average experience. Slightly above 150km/h or 95mph is like what a lot of people drive on long distant trips as a comfortable maximum speed. So 80mph seems to be a pretty reasonable average number.

A 50-55 mph range test may seem pointless on a 70 mph freeway, but it's actually quite useful for people that want a car that can take them down remote back roads, away from the interstate. Back roads often have 50-55 mph speed limits, which mirror the driving conditions shown in the test almost perfectly. And because back roads tend to have very limited charging infrastructure, the range of the car matters a lot more than does on the interstate. On the interstate, not having enough range simply means you pull into a fast charger off the highway a little bit sooner. On back roads, it means having to sit for an hour on a level 2 simply to be able to make it to a fast charger, or worse, not being able to complete the trip at all. This is why I think the test shown is actually worth a lot more than it seems at first glance.

You should do a more realistic range test. A Porsche driver would not go so slow when traveling. I understand that you wanted to show the maximum range of the car. However I think having a realistic range (+5mph over speed limit) would be interesting and what a potential owner would actually do in real world conditions.

How? Normal people are not going to spend money on this car even if they can afford it. Live in an affluent area and only occasionally see high end non-Tesla EVs. Sales flop

I can easily get 12.9 kWh/100km in my e-Golf but getting that in a Taycan is very impressive.

Dang. Thought Porshce was switching to the Tesla charge connectors? Fantastic range, but that dance to get it charged was crazy.

Volkswagen Group of America brands-Audi, Porsche, Scout Motors, and Volkswagen-will implement the NACS standard on vehicles starting in the 2025 model year. The automaker is exploring adapter solutions to allow owners with prior model-year vehicles to also access the Superchargers.

@@Tim-Tiller Won't get anywhere near its top charging speeds at a V3, but who cares. Superchargers are everywhere (over 22,000 stalls and growing by 20 every week on average), and it CAN get the top speeds on V4s (once upgraded) which Tesla is mostly installing from now on. They plan to get up to 50 stalls installed per week by the end of 2025, up from the 20 per week now and getting to 30 plus by the end of this year.

@@Paul-cj1wb yeah but I don’t have to worry much about top charging speeds with my Bolt. I have owned it for almost two years and only fast charged maybe 10 to 12 times and then just enough to get back home. I usually stay within my Bolt’s range round trip of home. I also usually take the back roads, less traffic and you don’t have so many speed demons to worry about. I may be taking it on a long trip to see my Son in Florida sometime this year or maybe not, I may just take my Pontiac Solstice instead and skip the charging.

@@Tim-Tiller That would be great if every American was like you. Unfortunately, they come to these forums and claim they drive for 10 to 12 hours straight, stop for a 5 minutes fill-up, and drive for another 10 to 12 hours. Just read the comments in these forums and see for yourself. That's why as technology, battery chemistries and charging keeps improving, it'll shut them up.

Great video. While I know the feeling and really enjoy hypermiling and I know you are really excited, just be careful, it's really easy to make a simple mistake rushing away from a charger or pulling in fast to a pit stop. an extra minute or two of the car on idling isn't going to make any difference. Cheers.

Shows how good things have got because my Leaf only manages about 3.8ish miles per kWh at normal speeds in this weather and about 4.7ish in Summer. Shows how inefficient it actually is. Impressive
