The only reason Mackie would be releasing a new speaker is nobody can get the higher end speaker systems out to the US, plus the chips to make the DSP's and other processing chips for the higher end units. This is gonna be a simplistic speaker for the general masses, it's labeled with a high wattage because the other brands are labeled with that higher wattage now. Mackie is just competing for some market share right now with the supply chain in being delayed so much. I will say Mackie does NOT make a terrible product, but their designs are not for my performance image. Thank you John for putting this together and sharing, always great to see your demos & reviews with your own opinions.
I heard these yesterday at a local music store and will say these are definitely entry level speakers. Not bad if you are looking to start something on a budget.
Looks like the alto ts315 series, those are under $300 but have a tweeter problem, I replaced the tweeter with a DS18 car audio super tweeter and it sounds amazing now, for anyone on a budged I highly recommend I have 4 now and they all take the beating all day and now we’re about a $340 investment each speaker, but for someone that wants just a plug in play these look amazing!!!
How do you feel about this versus the thump series? There's not much difference in price, and I'm wondering if it's a better value to go with the thump 15A? I will be using it mainly for wedding receptions. Thank you for your input.
Man, it's been along time. I'm glad you're back making your video logs again. The speaker looks pretty good.....Once again congrats for being the very 1st person to unbox and to do a test on these new speakers.
You could tell it was a very honest review. I just received an email today saying there are many of them in stock. I typically only endorse higher-end Mackie Speakers and when you said they were "OK" and are meant for a starter speaker. That's where you hit the nail on the head. I do NOT like the advertisement on them that make them appear to be a speaker you could really thrash sound through. It simply is a CHEAP speaker that is ONLY worth the price point IF the consumer understands its limitations. Because I genuinely felt you gave a very honest review. I was curious to know: How far can you turn the master volume up on the back of the speaker before it introduces too much noise before pumping music through it.
Great review, I brought one and after having a good try of this I'm afraid that this speaker is a fail, no lows or highs it's just a mid box, great for vocals. I'm now in the process of returning this speaker.
Man...I just don't understand why Mackie puts this type of speaker out. When Mackie 1st introduced the SRM 450, the quality of their products was so good. Why would they kill their rep by releasing "Thump Junk" and "Thrash Trash"?... I will always purchase their mixers but I'm done with their speakers. Thanks for your reviews DJ Woo Pig! You always do a good job bro!
Glad to see you doing these again!! I’ve been catching up on your blogs since I am relatively new to the DJing business. Congrats on being the 1st one to ever try these, too! These Thrashers look really slick! I like their presentation and simplicity. What’s your opinion about paring these up with a 18inch sub? Looking forward to more videos!
Good review, they seem similar to the Thump series. I have a 15" Thump I use for ceremony system. They clip pretty quickly so can't use for main DJ set up. I do have ( 2) Mackie SRM450 Those with a 15" sub can handle a dance floor.
Any idea what the price point on these are? I’ve been looking for a ceremony rig that won’t break the bank and a good 15” (or two) hopefully can get that done well.
I wish i could win those speakers i've been meaning to get proper entry level speakers but have been saving a long time now but im shure their is someone who needs them more i just love seeing this guy #lovethewoopig
