Amen! I realized this in the first ride and just hardwired. I use a wunderlich phone mount because the bmw app is overbearing if you’re using a mesh headset and overall useless. Why not just equip the bike with Apple car play and the android equivalent. Heck I’ll pay $200 for the upgrade. A major technology fail on an otherwise beautiful riding machine.
I have the same problem and have been hoping for 2 years that there is a solution. First the LED appears green and then it flashes yellow and no longer charges. Tested with iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro. My BMW dealer thinks it is a licence problem between BMW and Apple. The reason is Apple's MagSafe, which is why older devices work. This is incomprehensible to me as the iPhone can also be charged with cheap charging cradles without any problems. I find it cheeky of BMW to sell a motorbike with additional options and conceal the fact that it doesn't work with new iPhones! If I find a solution, I'll post it in the comments.
A motorcycle fairing, or motorcycle itself, is a challenging environment for tech of any sort to work with. I guess my point is, this wireless charger shouldn’t be so super sensitive that you have put the phone in just so, or no cover, or only certain phones, etc. At this price point it should just work with minimal fuss but this setup clearly doesn’t. BMW needs to address this.
Yup, ive a 1250rt brand new and i cant get my apple14+ to fit properly and cant connect a lead to charge and the difficulty getting it back out...tried using my phone in my breast pocket and used to blue tooth to connect but my phone was hot cos it was blue toothing to the bike, i stopped using it...
Sorry to see you found out the hard way, like I did. I solved my issues, I traded down to a 2020 1250 :) (no TFT etc). All problems solved, still love it.
FWIW, my iPhone 13 Pro does charge, but very slooowly! So at least it doesn’t discharge over a long ride. I did remove the case from the phone for a better fit with the clamp inside the compartment. Hang in there and hopefully you’ll get it sorted! BTW, did you try with and without the “Optimize Battery Charging” in the settings of the phone? 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Have you used a right angle to use the power cord? I have a Samsung S23ultra so too big to fit in the pocket. I use a small charge pack that I plug into my phone and chuck them in my tailbag on longer rides. That has worked well. Agree it's silly for a bike at this price point to have an undersized and underperformed item like this as the rest of the bike is stellar.
I use an old Galaxy S20 purely for the purpose of connected app and have no issues. Fits nicely and charges wirelessly ok. I personally like my phone in my pocket.
Markus my iPhone 11 charges fine , however I think the wireless charging technology changed after the 11 From Qi to Mag Safe and I don’t think our arts support Mag Safe , if someone more tech competent than me then please let me know but this is my understanding why it doesn’t work on models later than 11 … which is a bugger if you want to upgrade your phone. Next option is to use cable from USB port inside compartment but need to get one with a 90degree bend to fit well and the phone has to be smaller Like a iPhone 15
My iPhone 12 was doing the exact same thing. What seems to work is to close the compartment door while the light is blinking orange. If you wait a minute or two and open it, you’ll see that it’s now green and charging.
Are you sure you just nit seeing it during the green cycle? If your does great, mine simply doesn't. But I will say, the new pad at least does this. The old pad was not green at all.
It doesn't work with new iPhones. I have tried 12 Pro Max, and 14 Pro and it doesn't work, but it's working flawlessly with XS. It might be an Apple issue, but definitely, they should communicate with each other and find the solution for their customers. It's ridiculous to buy this extra and then do nothing with it. #BMW #Apple shame on you!
Just turn the phone around so the top of the phone is nearest to you. My iPhone 11 wont charge if I put it into the cubbyhole top first but works fine bottom in first. It’s obviously something to do with the position of the charging induction loops.
OK it charges an Android phone both wirelessly and via the cable so zero issues there. Due to heat I use a cable when touring Europe but wireless in the UK. Have you sent your video to Apple?
Bonjour . I no longer use this method of charging. I have an old iPhone 6 just for music and therefore without induction. So I plug it in with a small charging cable. My phone stays in my pocket. because the compartment heats up too much and this is not good for the phone batteries. Why did BMW remove induction charging from the new K 16? There must be a reason. compartment ventilation: ru-vid.comTtjwTz_Ooak My own connection: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TEDxqcim9oU.html
