NEW Ridgid SubCompact Performance Tested and it's Not What I Expected WOW. RIDGID Power tools announced on 04/24/2020 it's new 18-Volt Sub-Compact Lithium-Ion Brushless tool lineup. I purchased the 2pc drill and driver set the following day with my own money at The Home Depot. The new RIDGID Sub-Compact tools are compact 18v tools and offer the lightest weight design they have today.
We will use the drill and a step bit from Harbor Freight and attempt to drill through a 1/2" thick steel structural H-Beam as well as use spade bits and speed bores in 5/8, 3/4, and 1"
We will put the impact driver to the ultimate test on removing lug nuts on a vehicle torqued to 75, 100, and even 125 ft-lbs. If it can handle removal with a hex sock adaptor at 100 and even 125 ft-lbs I'll be really impressed as that is some pretty awesome power and nut-busting torque on a tool that is rated at 1800 in-lbs or @ 150 ft-lbs from the manufacturer.
As with all Ridgid cordless power tools, the new 18V SubCompact line will be available exclusively at Home Depot. I am really excited about the subcompact class of tools. SubCompact means smaller and lighter tools and after watching this video you can see that they are strong enough to meet even some of the most demanding needs as I feel I put them through some pretty heavy-duty tasks. The new cordless power tool family is officially expected to launch in May 2020. At the time of this posting, the drill and impact driver combo kit, impact wrench, and multi-material saw are available for purchasing online. Here is the Kit R9780 Ridgid 18-Volt Sub-Compact Li-Ion Brushless 2-Tool Combo Kit w/ Drill/Driver, Impact Driver, (2) 2 Ah Batteries, Charger, & Bag that I purchased ‪@HomeDepot‬
All specs listed below are as listed on The Home Depot site www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-18...
RIDGID introduces the 18-Volt Sub-Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless Brushless 2-Tool Combo Kit with 2-Speed Drill/Driver, 3-Speed Impact Driver, (2) 2.0 Ah Batteries, 18-Volt Charger, and Bag. RIDGID SubCompact tools offer optimized ergonomics and power in a lightweight form. This combo kit is 30% less weight to reduce fatigue and allow you to complete the job at hand. Brushless Motors offer up to more runtime and longer motor life. The 2-Speed Drill/Driver features all-metal gears for extended job site durability. The Impact Driver features a high torque output of 1,800 in./lbs. of torque. With registration, this kit is backed by the Industry's Only Lifetime Service Agreement. This 18-Volt Sub-Compact Brushless Combo Kit includes the 2-Speed Drill/Driver, the 3-Speed Impact Driver, two 1.5 Ah Batteries, an 18-Volt Charger, a tool bag, and an operator's manual.

The impact would be a good matchup, but I think the DCD996 drill torque ratings are at least 1.5x or more than the Ridgid. We should do a livestream together some evening and talk about tools. Shoot me an email and maybe we can line something up if ur interested in the future✌️

I was pretty surprised the first time I used my subcompact. I didn't realize it was a subcompact set until I got home and pulled them out of the box. But I decided to give it a try anyways. I was blown away how powerful that little impact was. Didn't bother me to keep and keep going on about my work.

Excellent review. I will keep my eyes open for a good sale on these new subcompacts. I moved into the Ridgid line 5 years ago when I was shopping for replacements (for the 3rd or 4th time) for batteries for my old Milwaukee 12V drills. Upon discovering that Ridgid had an LSA that even covered batteries (if purchased in some kind of authorized combo, as I'm sure you know), it became just about my sole power tool (even if not battery operated). Given the cost (and short relative life) of the Milwaukee batteries, and their high cost, I just threw out the old drills and started fresh. Now my tool area looks like the Ridgid section of a HomeDepot. My only dislike is their registration process, which in almost every case (and that's well over a dozen times) required me to waste time following up with Ridgid's CS, even though every registered tool was purchased at HomeDepot (and the receipt was uploaded by me at the time of registration). It's quite frustrating that their registration process is so flawed, but the LSA makes up for it in the long run. Hopefully it doesn't spill over to their warranty claims (as to which I've been fortunate enough not to need so far). As an aside, I needed a portable air compressor a while ago, and Ridgid didn't have anything that met my needs, so I bought a Ryobi 18V compressor and got an adapter on eBay that allowed me to use my Ridgid batteries seamlessly on Ryobi 18V tools, so I didn't have to waste money (and space) on non-lifetime warranted Ryobi batteries.
@ClientGraphics
@ClientGraphics 4 года назад
I almost went the adaptor route just because Ridgid doesn’t have any out door power equipment and batteries are the most expensive consumable in the equation. At least you can pick up a string trimmer or a few other really cool Ryobi things👍
@richardefriend
@richardefriend 4 года назад
@@ClientGraphics I've gone full Ryobi 40V for my outdoor equipment. The batteries are't warranted beyond 3 years, unfortunately, but you really don't want to go 18V on outdoor stuff unless you've got dozens of them. I go through about 6 fully charged 40V batteries on the day I work up the courage to tackle my outdoor jungle. And I'l talking blowers (2, one for each hand for better control and amazing power), weed wackers (3, each with different line or blades), chain saw, extended pole saws (2, 8' and 10'), hedge trimmer, edgers (2) and more. When I go in, I go "all in". If I could do it over, I might go the Ego (56V route, also no LSA), but the prices I paid a few years ago mostly using eBay was tooooo good to refuse. I've not seen deals like that on the Ryobi 40V line, however, in a long time.

If you want the most power Gen 5x but typically you don’t need all that and the trade off is size and weight and what ever “features” you like best? Lighting, speed modes or even the bluetooth connectivity. They all sound nice and exciting but unless you will actually use them they just cost more money. I actually find myself using the smaller lighter tools more and if I’m going to build a deck or construct a shed I’m using a bigger tool and more batteries.

As long as it looks and appears to be more sanitary then just straight up spitting on it, I think you should be good to use it🤔😂

1:19 it started the impact action so early which means it is not that strong , small screw like this does not even need the driver to impact

People are bitching about the price of this kit. I think its well worth the money and the price will only come down. You pay a premium to buy at launch.
@fabes33

I was too until I seen this review and I was huh they are worth the price as tough as they are, but $30 more bucks you can get m18 brushless kit.

Yes there is definitely a premium price to pay at launch and I think if it comes down in price around $159-179 that would be excellent. The Makita SubCompact CX200RB is really similar in size and goes for around $195-229.

can you reccomend good quality attachment for driving screws
@ClientGraphics
@ClientGraphics 3 года назад
Stick with name brands like Milwaukee or Makitia and even Dewalt. However if you go Harbor Freight the Bauer attachments are decent.

Lets just toss the new drill bits on concrete. lol I have a lot of Ridgid X4 and miss my X2 drill badly (stolen). Milwaukee stole my heart away though. The Ridgid 1/2 impact was a hug disappointment for me. Still love my 1/2 in X4 drill though. Ridgis folding panel worklights are nice too.

Who do recommend for "Speed Bore" Bits? IRWIN...
@ClientGraphics
@ClientGraphics 4 года назад
There are a few brands to chose from Irwin had a good price to product value. You could go check the Harbor Freight stuff or brands like alBosch, Dewalt, Milwaukee, Klein or even USA made like Eagle Tool. Search online line for Auger bits or Wood Bore bits as SpeedBore is more or less a marketing name/brand for Irwin. The Irwin has been fine for nail free 2x4’s

Does it matter that the impact driver only has a single speed?
@ClientGraphics
@ClientGraphics 4 года назад
I personally only use one speed and rely on the variable speed trigger. Others may feel differently that it lacks a speed selector found on other Ridgid impact drivers.

According to Tool Boss, it’s impossible to torque those lug nuts on those studs more than 100 lbs. What do you think of that opinion is he right or wrong?
@mlyon834
@mlyon834 4 года назад
Juan C Impact drivers shouldn’t be used to torque lug nuts to begin with. The right tool is a wrench.
@ClientGraphics
@ClientGraphics 4 года назад
Using the 1/4 hex impact driver isn’t an ideal tool for lug nuts, but it could work in a pinch. It does however make decent RU-vid video footage to demonstrate extreme workloads and it will work. I might do a video demo on this but it would be to compare 3 or 4 impact tools to the stated manufacture specs. In the meantime I can tell you that I have personally done at least 101 ft-lbs👍🏻
