I have both sets. As a Ridgid fan, I was disappointed in the impact driver having no assist modes. The Makita Impact feels smoother and I personally do not slip bits with it. For some reason I have an issue with slippy bits with the Ridgid, but not with Torx fasteners.
Great video Bro, keep them coming. I appreciate you comparing these two sub compact lines, I own and love my sub compact makita set butrigid came out strong with their drills. I came away pretty impressed.
This last Ridgid lineup the octane is absolute crap, I used to be a diehard Ridgid man but after octane those days are long gone. The drill, impact driver and jigsaw couldn't survive through one job of building a deck, maybe I got a bad set who knows, but when you're on the job you expect your brand new never been used before tools to perform flawlessly, unfortunately that was not the case for my previous lineup, thankfully I could take all of that useless crap back and get my money back, I changed my entire platform over to Makita and haven't looked back.
Gravity_Pulls personally I’ve never had an issue with my octane tools I’m a ridgid die hard but I understand where you’re coming from. People have a lot of issues with ridgid tools but I think the new subcompact lineup is built very well compared to its previous models
The lack of assist mode or speed selector really bothered for quite some time. Makita subcompact came with it and you can get it for 199 as a kit. What makes no sense is that the impact wrench has different modes, while the impact driver does not. After giving it some thought, I decided to return the ridgid subcompact to pick up the impact wrench with the subcompact saw.
TheToolGameChanger yeah I really wish ridgid would have added a speed selector on it but it faired up pretty well against the makita subcompact and personally I thought its way better than DeWalt atomic but does not even come close to touching Milwaukee’s subcompact
we bought a makita set drill and impact because they have a good reputation about 3 years ago, used the drill alot working on our garage putting on the metal roof and siding but i was truly shocked when my son was driving in a lag screw installing the garage door tracks the makita drill rolled smoke out of it and died, never to move again. mind you that this drill had never got wet or anything and was clean and taking care of. i will never buy another makita ever again. i have since started buying only ridgid power tools so we will see how they hold up
Since I’m a tool fanatic, I decided to purchase the Ridgid set again as it came with a free stubby wrench. The Drill is impressive BUT not a fan of the impact once again. This time the impact sizzled and smoked after only 4 3” deck screws and was pronounced dead. I love my Ridgid tools, but I can’t trust this sub compact line. I’ll stick with my Makita Sub Compact kit as it’s just as good and clearly better engineered even though it’s older tech. I think Ridgid missed the Mark with this set. First thing I thought when I bought it was, “Makita already made this, and better, YEARS AGO...”
Sorry I know this is totally out off topic but the final lag bolt.... My M18 gen 2 drove three galvanized bolts that size into 2 6x6’s no pre drilling. I used a 5 amp hour battery. It did not struggle to harsh, I was baffled because my uncle kept saying I got a air impact in the work truck. We both were amazed.
TheToolGameChanger yeah you could definitely hear a difference in the sound. The makita sounds like Milwaukee’s surge or ridgid stealth force. It’s a lot quieter when compared to ridgid’s
Underwhelming performance from the Ridgid. Those 1800 in lbs are allegedly 560 in-lbs over what Makita rates its subcompact driver. Then RPMs are almost equal between these two. As a customer I'd be pissed to not get anywhere as close to the ratings
