The new #RoyalEnfield Himalayan is a new clean-sheet design, featuring a new frame, engine, and single-cylinder #Sherpa 450cc engine. It now produces more power and more usable torque than before, and has a more focused chassis thanks to Showa suspension and 21/17 inch wheels sizes.
All things told it's a bike many green lane riders and lightweight adventure fans have been very excited to see, and to test the model out where better than the stunning Himalayas and the beautiful town of Manali.

400X doesn’t have the suspension travel, nor the ground clearance of this. It’s aimed at a different market. I’m not sure why people compare the two. The 400X is more aimed at the 411 Scram (or maybe a future RE Scram with the new motor) the 452 will MURDER the 400X off road.
@MauriceTarantulas
@MauriceTarantulas 11 месяцев назад
@@martyn_g There's such a thing as light off roading...hence why there are scramblers. Its quite common knowledge and a popular market.
@SurajSinghTomarArya
@SurajSinghTomarArya 11 месяцев назад
@@MauriceTarantulasyes and that's why he said the comparison is dumb because Himalyan is NOT a light off-roader compared to Scrambler 400. Secondly no one has heard about these Chinese brands you mentioned who have no legacy, heritage or presence while Royal Enfield is globally known for making original products and being the oldest manufacturer on the planet.
@MauriceTarantulas
@MauriceTarantulas 11 месяцев назад
@@SurajSinghTomarArya Err I mentioned other bikes as well, maybe you cant read. And any bike can be compared to another, sure you wont take a light scrambler into rough stuff but we have something called "green laning here in the Uk" so people might get the Triumph over the new Himmy. Maybe its news to you but the Original Himmy is a do it all type bike, not just for heavy stuff. P.s A lot of people have heard of these Chinese brands depends which country you are from. Am sure R Enfield wants to do well in all countries not just India. Maybe try and not be such a fanboy...

Looks like Enfield have worked hard on this liquid cooled, Sherpa engine model. It is built to a price point, so you aren’t going to get fancy suspension. It’s good for weekday commuting and some weekend gravel trails. Some more off-road tyres for winter would be useful in mud and slippery terrain. Overall I think it’s a significant upgrade and will still represent very good value for adventure riders on a budget- Enfield’s demographic.

A bold move from RE... because there is a lot of 'That a first one' So reliaibliby longterm remains uncertain. On the other hand RE is the only major brand that realy delivers what most riders want and they made so much progression on so many levels the last years that you can risc a dive.

At 3:13 "you can just get on it and it was easy to ride" That describes every lightweight adventure bike. I think what people loved about the old was was the cruiser like engine with the ability to pull relatively hard at ultra low rpm. Does this new Himalayan fully retain that ability?

On a more serious note, I think I’d consider “adding back” some kind of center light. Would only make a difference when it makes a difference, but then it… well… would make a difference. I don’t think motorists are used to vehicles that narrow - at least in North America - and the “missing” center light would confuse. …could be a simple LED strip of some sort. John

I see the Himalayan as the middle ground between a scrambler and an adventure bike. Obviously, its aesthetics play an important role in this, but, in terms of dynamics, according to the comments that I could see in the different reviews, they lead me to that intuition or conclusion. Rear shock absorber without vane, efficient but somewhat limited suspension travel, low clearance of the crankcase from the ground in relation to its long wheelbase, 17" rear wheel (although the height of the tire could compensate), very high weight compared to a enduro bike, quite low power and torque compared to other bikes of its weight. What do you think?
@vishnumohannair8506
@vishnumohannair8506 10 месяцев назад
Depends on how you define Adventure. It is a very small niche community who wants to revv the bike and do jumps on an offroad trail. This on the otherhand is an all rounder, it will do highways, touring, offroad and no roads and you can do some light jumping. For 99% of the riding population that is the definition of adventure. On highways you need your bike to be atleast 180 Kg+ to avoid wind buffeting. A bike like this will see probably 70% highways and 30% offroad during its lifetime and I find the highways more scary than offroad on a motorcycle when it is a lightweight
@GermanMassa
@GermanMassa 10 месяцев назад
@@vishnumohannair8506 great point of view! Thank you for sharing it with me. The definition of adventure from the Spanish dictionary is: Strange or unusual event that a person experiences or witnesses, especially one that is exciting, dangerous or involves some risk. I think those who misrepresent the term adventure are those in charge of marketing, because lately they offer us motorcycles to ride through fairly normal terrain. But your argument is true, 99% of people, in a living situation with so many comforts, believe that walking through the countryside is adventuring.

I disagree for this category of bike. These bikes get dropped, dented, scratched, high sided, bashed etc. your “pretty” bike won’t be “pretty” much longer, lol. Unless you covet your bikes, and don’t ride them off road, sure, looks are important IMO. Me, I clean the chain, wipe fork legs and the shock. Maybe give the rotors a clean once a month, and wash mine every three months. That’s it. My ADV bikes are often scratched up.
