The Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 platform has been completely overhauled for 2024 after a strong 6-year run. With a new water-cooled, 4-valve, DOHC, 452cc ‘Sherpa’ single engine pumping out 39.5 horsepower and 24 ft-lbs of torque, combined with a new 6-speed transmission and new twin-spar steel frame using the engine as a stressed member, along with wider wheels and beefier axles, stiffened swing arm, revised longer-travel Showa suspension, and improved braking, the Indian manufacturer left no stone unturned in its quest to improve their charming little adventure tourer.
Royal Enfield is looking to become a major player in a growing middleweight ADV class. In this video, we give a rundown of its performance on both dirt and street after several days of testing the machine in the Himalayas. With its new-found horsepower, is it now a capable road machine? Is there a significant improvement off-road? Did the approachable, affordable, character-filled Himalayan really need this much change? Should you upgrade from your previous Himalayan 411? We have answers to all your burning questions and more on Royal Enfield's completely-revamped Himalayan.

About 50 lbs lighter than the klr 650 with similar power and tourq plus a 6 speed transmission?. Dam i think royal enfield hit it out of the park.

Well the KLR 650 (last my) is a heavy pig for its displacement. And the difference its actually smaller: the Hymalayan 450 weights 430 lbs (196 kg) with a full tank (16 lt - 4.2 gal).

@@divexplore21how are you this ignorant. The reports you looked are about the old himalayan. Even though you search for 450. The himalayan 411s specific hp was 27.

I’ll wait to see if the engine holds up, it may be similar to the klr but to get that hp, RE had to ring the nuts out of it versus the klr . The fuel requirements are restrictive if you are traveling through 3rd world countries and I still haven’t seen what it will do with petro out of a dirty milk jug .

Great review! And must have been really fun.....not everyone gets to ride in the Himalayas. Thinking of downsizing my V Strom 650XT to one of these in a year or two.

Quite an experience riding those roads in India. And the beauty of the mountains is hard to describe. Would be a worthy replacement!

I would pay extra for tubeless spoked wheels. I have been stuck on the trail or road with a flat tire,too many times. I had a flat on my Triumph Tiger .Cast tubeless wheels, I plugged tire and was back on the road in less than an hour. Tubes were good for the 1900's , but not now! I test rode the 2021 Himalayan and was amazed how smooth the motor was, and was able to hold 80mph on the highway. I will never buy a new motorcycle with tubes.

There is a new cross-spoke tubeless option available on the higher-spec variants.

@@ADVPulseVideos Thanks for the reply. I noticed they changed shift lever. The first gen ,had a lousy shift lever/linkage .My size 13 boots did not work with the old Himalayan, I had trouble during the test ride. The Royal Enfield 650 some models now have cast wheels!, No Tubes...

I'm Indian and I cancelled my 450 order cos the tubeless spoke wheels aren't yet available here. Ill pick one up when those are available. I have gotten stuck in remote region of the himalayas (14k + ft above sea level) and changing tubes isn't easy and time consuming. No more spoken wheels for me but wont buy alloys as well.

Strangely, people report such bad vibration on the Himalayan that they can't even ride it on the highway, because it's obviously not geared properly for standard 70 mph highway driving. As far as I'm concerned, any motorcycle without an overdrive 6th gear, is completely unacceptable. Consumers need to DEMAND higher gears in 2024. Why are people feeling intense vibration on a brand new motorcycle in 2024? They feel vibration because the gears are too low. There is an agenda to cause motorcycles to revv too high, to burn more fuel, and wear out much faster than usual. In my opinion, you can be sure that the oil companies and the EPA are somehow involved, because they hate Humanity. The 1932 Henderson inline 4 cylinder motorcycle had 53 horsepower, and a very tall overdrive gear. Yes, back in 1932, motorcycles had an overdrive. Do you see the problem?
@starseeddeluxe
@starseeddeluxe 3 месяца назад
Where is the overdrive gear? Why is there no overdrive gear on the Himalayan in 2024? There are hundreds of reviews, and not one person mentioned the gear ratios and a lack of overdrive, but instead people have complained about engine vibration. Engine vibration at speed is caused by LACK OF AN OVERDRIVE gear. Where there is no load on the engine, it will buzz and cause unnecessary vibration. A tall overdrive would have fixed this problem.

Looking to ride to Leh from Delhi in June, trying to decide between this or the 650, will need two bikes, my son and I are going, or should we get one of each and then swap? any thoughts, my current machine 1200gs, K1300s and my old trusty ducati 916.
@Whatreally123
@Whatreally123 4 месяца назад
650 RE? Like the Interceptor? I have done Leh multiple times and if you can get your hands on the 450, take 2 of them. Or the Him 411 also cos once you hit the mountains, top speed doesn't really matter. Even the kt, 390 adv will do a good job although I dislike that bike. Him 450 would be the best bet. The roads in Ladakh are now almost smooth tarmac and the "adventure" of riding on bad roads high up in the mountains is almost gone. Still, fantastic to ride. Manali to Leh is one of my favourite routes ever.

I really really wish they had updated and lightened the old 411, think there’s a lot of us ex 411 owners who would have liked to have seen the simple approach kept. That’s coming from someone who had one an had issues on a new e5 2022 bike.

@@starseeddeluxe sure I had on a brand new bike, seized swingarm, bent fork yokes/chassis, missing clips on the breather lines on the tank, condensation in the clocks, brake lever switch failed, then another was fitted that then failed within 30mins n lead to me nearly getting rear ended on an emergency stop, stalling at that point it went back for a full refund there’s a video on my channel about it along with issues we had with 2x 390 adventures we had. Hope this helps. N they couldn’t get the parts after that one brake light switch a friend has been waiting 12 months for a cat on his meteor these are the things you never hear about in the reviews I loved the long stroke engine fab but the build quality was shocking.
