New Runescape music vs. Old Runescape music 

Back in my day, RuneScape didn't have sounds let alone music. It wasn't until like a year into the game they added sound effects and they were for members only.

Unironically, all of it is awesome. Rs3 has an underrated soundtrack, coming from someone who doesn't even play it and osrs is just iconic of course.

You could play Harmony to any former RS player and it will immediately bring them back 20 years to their teens... Even if they haven't played in over a decade. It's the first song every player heard since the beginning of RS2 when they joined the main land. So much nostalgia

Both games have banger soundtracks though

Sea shanty 2 is seriously a banger. Whoever did music for RS did an excellent job.

Ash writes a lot of the newer osrs songs and they're so good. Coil is a bonafide classic, Forlorn Homestead is my personal favorite (reminds me of FF1 a lot)

I'll never forget my first time listening to Baroque. I've been getting similar feelings exploring Kourend and Varlamore with the music turned on, it's wonderful what they've done to osrs.

Osrs is great and nostalgic something i listened while i was a kid playing rs, while rs3 ones are nostalgic in the sence this is what i listened in my teenage/late teenage life.

OSRS just feels so damn authentic. Just a guy with some electronic music software. The absolute humiliation you feel when you find yourself gearless in lumby and flute salad starts to play. Or that one farm run you are sure that shipwrecked is the only song keeping you sane after 200th watermelon/snape from one patch.

I'm done playing RS, but hearing some of the old music tracks is the one thing that sometimes still makes me miss it.

Yeah the soundtrack will always be fire, but oldschool hits so much harder cause of the memories

I started in 2005, so I'm definitely used to the classic soundfonts, but I still love the new versions because they are using hi-fi instruments, but still maintain the integrity and melody of the original. It's the same songs I love.

RS3 music might have more realistic orchestration, it's all drowned in too much reverb and a lack of clarity. The individual character between tracks is diminished.

I think everyone agrees that the Runescape soundtrack just fucking slaps.

As someone who just started, osrs music just gets me moving 😅

I love RS3's original songs, and I even love lots of the remakes and remasters, but some puzzle me, including Baroque, which was featured here. The track is called "Baroque". Sure, a nylon string guitar fits that I guess, but what's the point of changing it from a harpsichord to a nylon guitar? It doesn't sound anywhere near as good for the song. And don't even get me started on what RS3 did to Harmony. What a travesty.

My childhood was osrs, adulthood is now rs3. Verdict simple, both are good.

Both are pretty great but the sharp notes of OSRS really just make the music pop RS3 the music is just ambient to the background but OSRS really makes sure you know the music is front and foremost the first thing you notice when you walk into a new area.

Can't find that version of Autumn Voyage, cause it's not the same as the original

The new Varrock soundtrack sounds really smooth

if theres one thing i can commend jagex for doing, its for always maintaining respect for their game that theyve been consistently building for over 20 years. like they could have easily just ditched the old soundtracks and got something completely new, but instead they kept the old ones and just remastered them

OS way better, but both games have good soundtracks. :)

RS3 music shines in the new songs, not old to be honest.

the osrs music is much better for sure but its more than just the new technology since i think the new zones in osrs like great Kourend have bad music .they don't know how to make midi sound good .and in rs3 it seems like they replaced a lot of the old music with more ambient music that isn't related to the old stuff with names like farm ix or something not good

To me OSRS is more nostalgic but I can't listen to it for long periods of time. If I'm playing for a decent period I either turn it way down or off. RS3 on the other hand, I'll keep the music on the whole time.

I really like the RS3 sound track, but I wonder if I would like it as much if I didn't have the nostalgia of the original soundtrack to draw from.

Hearing the new Sea Shanty rendition fills me with seething rage. The original song was perfect. How dare they mess with perfection!
