Very thorough, Dirt Boss. You put a LOT of hard work into this one and still did all the filming. You can be proud of the extra attention to detail getting things squared up & true. Plus the explanations were really excellent - I especially like your recapping things.

@@DIRT-BOSS I am in Cardington, OH. I contacted the county and they said I need to pass an online test to get a certificate to be allowed to install my own. I will be doing a conventional system and watching a ton more of your videos so thank you. My soil test is May 28th so I got some time to learn some more. And I definitely understand why the businesses around me are charging so much it clearly isn't easy work and no way I would even attempt it blindly without your videos. But, I feel really good about it after watching this because you explained everything.

@@DIRT-BOSS That's great timing for me. I'm buying a shirt, for real! Thank you! I did a quick search of your videos and I may have missed it but do you have a video on your opinions of the different type of systems? I read something online that explains the pro's and con's which makes sense but would be great to hear anything you have to say on the subject as opposed to some article. I read climates can obviously affect which systems work best but I always like knowing what a pro like you would do on your own home ya know? Do you have recommendations? Like should I get a plastic tank over the standard concrete ones? Appreciate you taking your time and responding.

@@MysteryScienceGaming You got to remember I'm not an engineer so I can't steer you the wrong way I don't know what type of ground you have but as far as plastic or concrete mostly we use concrete tanks around here although we can use both.. I like the stone and pipe system way better than the infiltrator system I feel it works more efficient the infiltrators tend to plug up..

I love it too. Its a win/win/win proposition. By teaching your customers they can more easily understand the fact you have the expertise to provide a quality service. The people with money who wouldn't be trying to DIY it get to see your expertise level and service quality before even calling you. The ones who who were going to try to DIY it without knowing what amount of hard work and skill is involved would possibly be persuaded to use your service instead. And the ones who were going to DIY it regardless appreciate you for sharing your knowledge, potentially reccomending you to their friends. Its the best kind of construction advertising in my opinion.

This was a great help. Thank you. A few questions on the the math so I do it correctly. 1. The non perf pipe portions are 1/4“ fall per foot correct? 2. Once I’m with perf pipe you said a 1” slope. Did I understand correctly- are you saying 1” drop per foot of perf pipe? Or is it still 1/4” fall per foot? 3. I do a 6” bed of gravel before laying the perf pipe? Then cover to 2” above then lay the filter fabric right? 4. Do you cap the ends of the perf pipe or leave them open? Thanks again. This video was excellent.

liked, subscribed, and shared. great video, excellent explanations. Good info on the code even though they are different everywhere. It is a very good reference to understand the local code differences. For our system, the installer is not sure if the crane can get the concrete septic box to the location due to tricky access. We may have to use a fibreglass tank but we also have a bit of a high water table in the winter which apparently can be a problem for those tanks. We are hoping we can change the tank location a little to allow for crane access. Have you had experience with the fiberglass tanks? Any install differences I should watch for?

Very unfortunate that the cheapest grade of Perforated Pipe known as Light Gage Pipe, which can easily crush was used for this installation. In my state, Solid Schedule 35 SDR Pipe would be required from the Septic Tank to the Distribution Box and from the Distribution Box out to the Distribution Lines in the Leaching Field itself. In my opinion, it makes sense to spend the money to use Schedule 35 SDR Perforated Pipe for the Lateral Leach Lines as well. Quite Frankly, I would also use a much heavier grade of Filter Fabric... not the cheap landscaping material from your local Home Improvement Big Box Store. Also, I'm a big believer in using extra stone, because stone is cheap, and it only cost me a few hundred dollars for another load... the more aggregate you put under and over the pipe the better. Plus vent the far end of the leachfield for increased airflow, because it doesn't really cost anymore money. In fact, you can use the scrap pipe you have left over, because you always have extra pipe.

Craig 1st off these systems are engineered.. they are not a contractor design!! 2nd The pipe from the house to the tank to the D-Box is schedule 80!! Not cheap 35!! Other than that you may be correct. Thanks for your input 😁

So 1/8" per foot is the minimum, right? No issues with going greater than that, is there?

@@DIRT-BOSS From the septic tank to the distribution box. I believe you said from the house to the septic tank is 1/4" per foot. That would be a minimum slope as well, correct? Did the engineer provide the number for the 1" drop from the start of the drain line to the end? The 50' sections?

where is this magical land of soil with zero rocks? I dig with my tractors backhoe and it’s screeching sounds left and right from all the stone and ledge the teeth hit. This soil must be a dream to dig through. I hope whomever installed my homes septic system took the time and care this guy did to be sure it’s done right. probably not but one can hope so. nice work sir.

Dirt Boss Masonry & Excavating do you know much about septics beyond the install? mine was installed 1972 and it seems slow to drain. I uncovered the outlet and all I can see is the top handle to what looks like a plastic filter handle but it’s covered in thick larvae or leeches literally to the top of the plastic handle, i can’t even see a pipe at all just the handle top. i’m trying to decide if I should pull the handle up to try and clear it if it is a filter but i’m concerned all that thick nastiness and leeches will start to drain further down into the d box and make a problem. is it advisable to have it pumped first then clear the filter to avoid this?
@DIRT-BOSS
@DIRT-BOSS 4 года назад
@@lh98 Yes definitely have it pumped You should have it pumped every couple years and the filter could be clogging it we don't put filters on our systems.. We have what we call a baffle in the tank

Dirt Boss Masonry & Excavating Thank you sir. There’s only about 6” of solids on the bottom so i was hoping to wait another year but sounds like it’s best to pump it have them clear the filter and move on with peace of mind. You sir are a true professional in your field. respect!

New subscriber, love your content Mike I have property in the northern Adirondacks and I have to put a similar system in for a cabin I just built the only thing you didn't mention unless I missed it was what is the drop per foot for all the lines coming from the d box down the trunk to all the laterals? Or is the trunk lines from the d-box all level? Thanks.
@DIRT-BOSS
@DIRT-BOSS 3 года назад
The laterals in the trunk all go with the grade at the same depth you come out of the D-Box..

I've been installing septic systems for quite a few years and I've always used 36-inch drain field ditches. And I just wondered what was the deal with this job. Is it because of the location and the specifications given by the health department?

Great video. Clears up a lot of how system is installed. Just learning after buying house with septic, and trying to find where all coponents are installed. Had to go to health department to get drawing. I have 1 question, have you ever heard of a drain field being installed 160" deep. Now my property is on a slope and has something called a LGMI installed about 10 feet ahead of drain that diverts water around field. And field is approx. 100 feet from house. Could it be the soil type? Thanks again.

@DIRT-BOSS

No you keep the lines pretty much level That's why you position the field to the contour of the land.. if you find that the pipes are sticking out of the ground you have to bring fill in to go over the top at the end of your run

Appreciate your precision in dirt. This sort of attitude and skill is what makes a quality product. Any home owner that needs to hire an excavator to do this work should watch and see what it takes to do this properly. My guess is you were schooled by some quality, and you listened well. thats funny that you can back fill before inspection, we can only bed the stone, as the inspector want to shoot the lines at random to make sure there no dips in the lines, and they want to make sure we have 6 inchs of stone over the pipes
