As Jurie said he should have never been allowed to leave, but long term was probably best since he got the exposure to the euro rugby and probably helped lead to the URC transition knowing would be best competition
Rassie said that he believes we can win the world cup on the day of his appointment. oh boy did he deliver. What a coach, what a player and what an absolute gift to South African Rugby!!!
Yindoda emadodeni. What a player he was .What a character. Love for rugby unquestionable. The man hv got S A ❤. Thank u SOOO much Rasie .Job well done (father;brother;manager;coach & ....) Your body language said it all.
When someone speaks about clear strategic goals and pathways with the Springboks as the end goal it makes me genuinely optimistic and excited about the future of the team. I only hope he has a thick skin because Springbok supporters are the most critical I've ever come across.
Good luck to Rassie (did a great job at Munster) and SA rugby in general; as an England fan I look forward to the test series later this year!!! 🇿🇦🏴
so how did Rassie kick out coetzee - the problem with us black people we cannot accept failure without finding blame in others - go Rassie wish you well
Yes, he did. I think the best decision he ever made was scrapping the rule against foreign-based players. Saffa is very fortunate to have their best players or as the Boks say 'right players' repping the country because regardless of where they play their hearts are with South Africa. Look at NZ and Aus struggling because of that rule. It's a bit narrow-minded sort of policy tbh.
As an All Black fan, this scares me. SA has unbelievable talent, especially in the forwards (even more than NZ), all they needed was a decent coach to bring it all together. Rassie might just be that man.
Honestly, it's that type of arrogance that you have just displayed that gives kiwis a bad name. FYI, the Boks almost beat us last year, it took a freakish try by DMac at the end to win it, and I am not sure if you watched the game in Cardiff, but Wales were the better team for most of that game. We have been spoiled by Richie, Dan and the Henry/Hansen era, but there are clear signs that the rest of the world are catching up (see Brisbane loss last year, loss to Ireland in Chicago and the drawn series against the Lions). Write off the South Africans at your peril, they have some amazing talent coming through.and under good coaching will be a force again. If only my fellow countrymen would bother to watch South African Super games, they would be aware of this.
How... how was anything Crusader just said arrogant? He literally said that we know enough to respect them and not write them off! Everything he pointed out about SA political interference and their decline these past few years is true! Having SA come back as a rugby powerhouse would be great for the sport! I don't know why that would scare you. Also the only Saffa super team really worth watching at the moment is the Lions.
Well Andrew, I found the following statement to be inaccurate and arrogant. "As Wales was once a fierce rival to the AB's. But they haven't challenged us since the 1950's." While they haven't beaten us, they have been very competitive in recent times and have certainly challenged us over the last decade. I don't know about you, but I was bloody worried during that game at Cardiff last year and Wales did pretty well on their 2016 NZ tour too. If we were to play Wales in a wc knockout game, I would certainly back us to win it but by no means would the result be a foregone conclusion. Wouldn't you agree? I don't get why both of you are jumping on the fact that I said the new coach scares me. Obviously I didn't mean that I am terrified of a South African resurgence in that I think they will dominate us the majority of the time. What I meant was that I wouldn't enjoy our 90% success rate against them in recent times potentially dropping to a 50-60% rate.
Ok ok, I kinda see were you getting at! I didn't watch the ABs vs Wales game last year, I heard that we weren't at our best and that we were somewhat dirty, but overall we were good enough to be able to overcome our opponent. Other then that though, while we have had close games against them in the past, the fact remains that the Welsh haven't beaten us since the 50's! losing to the AB's by 1 or 5 points means nothing if you lose to them again by 30 or 40 the very next game, witch typically is what teams like Wales tend to do unfortunately. As for South Africa... I do hope that your right about this new coach, and that he can help the Boks get back to they're former best (just maybe not before we play them in the WC next year haha). Still though, I wouldn't look to far into that game in Cape Town last year, bearing in mind the the last 3 games before that were complete arse kickings, and during the end of year tour they got poo'd on by Ireland. Other then that though, time will tell if this new coach is the real deal or not. All the best to him!
As an outsider (a kiwi) I would love to see SA rugby have a bit of continuity in terms of selecting a coach...i.e maybe the assistant coaches could've been chosen just to keep the continuity going and the players are already familiar with them just a thought...anyway good luck Rassie
Good luck rassie .you have to tell saru to scrap the 30 test rule at least make it half that is 15 because we want to win the world cup next year. It's been a long time coming. Anyway in boks we trust
François van der Westhuizen he will make them a good team again . How good remains to be seen. But I hear things are bad over in South Africa these days
Goodluck Rassie. But this was bad timing. Tomorrow they may give your coach spot to a black guy again. Land reformation apparently means everything that's yours. But honestly this is the only good news in South Africa this year
The country burned to the ground. Then the dust blew away. Yet the Web Ellis cup has been here ever since this man started fiddling. As long as we got him we got the cup.
Coetzee failed to deliver. He had the chances; plenty of them, but squandered them. South Africa needs a strong Springbok side, I hope Erasmus and the new management succeed in providing this. At the top level, if you don't get results, you're gone, doesn't matter if you are white, black, yellow, or brown skinned. If Coetzee had given South African rugby more wins, then he'd still be their national rugby union head coach.
The truth WILL come out one day ! If I was coetzee I'd be cooking up a book real quick exposing SARU left n right. SA rugby will have equality one day.
Any coach who lost a quarter of the games he did would have been kicked out long ago. The 40 point loss in Dublin should have been his last day on the job. The equality argument is just sad to bring up with a record like his
The truth is he didn't perform... If you keep loseing then you should get fired .. it's like a banker that keeps stealing money ... you should fire someone that dosent perform . ..
Yes what a joke of a comment. This guy took a no name Cheetahs union to consecutive CC trophies when the Bulls and Sharks were dominating. He went to the stormers who were struggling under AC and quickly made them top the log for consecutive years, as soon as he left they dropped. He fixed our sevens structures and made us the best in the world by appointing guys like Neil Powell and Co. he went to a struggling Munster and and took them to two finals in the two top Euro comps in the space of a few months. Now that he is the Springboks coach you say its a joke. At least you have a future in stand up comedy?
