Nic and I caught up with Stu from SRAM for a super secret meeting earlier this month ahead of the release of the brand new Force groupset. We were lucky enough to get the full lowdown on the new release, including a detailed look at all of the upgrades made to the chain set, front and rear mech, levers and break callipers. We find out how much lighter it is than the old Force groupset and most importantly, how much it costs.
We then got to build it up on a titanium bike. You can check out our full build video here: • New SRAM Force AXS Gro...

The groupset does look amazing, overall it's more of an upgrade of the crankset and cosmetic properties, the shifting and braking performance is prob as good as last gen force and red... not sure if the new derailleurs can be paired with the older version shifters... People have to buy a new power meter if they want to replace or change the chainrings on the crank. The power meter is completely integrated with the chainrings. Everyone focuses on the crankset looks and the 100g weight saving, but it's not practical or cost efficient at all.

@Jimmidoesstuff
@Jimmidoesstuff Год назад

@bikepackingadventure7913

@@Roger101Watson So how does it work on 2 x then? If you need up and down for front derailleur and up and down for rear derailleur why can’t you do up and down just on one shifter? Your answer does not make sense or is it me. So you need four buttons to operate a two derailleur system so obviously you only need two buttons for a 1 x system. So right hand shifter 2 buttons, left hood would just be a brake lever 🤔🤔

"if it works don't fix it" ?? SRAM really need to fix their breaks... I mean the stopping power is really not great. To me it just looks like, that they reuse the Red Chainring and just anodize it black. Designwise I never really liked it. And now the "cheaper" Force has the same issue with the integrated powermeter. Edit: they also offer a Spindle-based Power Meter 👍 Hoods and all black is a plus. I would like to see a compatible 3rd party crank or (double) chainring / spider.

Contrary to the SRAM rep's opinion that the BB isn't the interesting part, I find it's the most important. Will they still have metal-on-metal contact between the axle and the inner bearing race? I'm trying to comprehend why anyone would design a BB like that, especially with 2 different type of metals.

I'm sad to say, I'm a bit underwhelmed. It seems to be just regular FORCE with slightly lighter Rival Hoods. The one-pieces chainrings will make replacements more expensive and the whole set just costs more to start with. I just bought the old 1x Force Group for under 800 generic western currency on sale. Apparently there's a lot of stock left that had been waiting to be shiopped to Europe during the pandemic.
@ostapk8624

@botondrostas

Awesome work, appreciate the long shots of the different components. The overall new paint scheme is really not for me, rival axs components still look nicer and more minimal, subtle, industrial, at least they could have added some of the silver finish of sram red (especially for the chainrings), this new aesthetic actually makes the groupset look a bit cheap (of course all of this is very subjective). The biggest negative is that there is no new features in the shifters, all it has is carbon blades vs the rival ones, why no top hood buttons for switching screens on your computer etc., would've been the most sane/useful update. Looking forward to the next video.

Insuring we live in a disposable World, you won't be seeing any more bikes becoming Vintage items cherished, restored, or otherwise. Everything is painted now. Gone is the bling of shiny silvery polished works of art. And if you have a blue bike it just won't look as hot as a grey or black bike will because silver and blue look rich but black and blue look bad together. Yup, after 5 years or so you'll be ready to dump that trashy looking equipment into the bin and be forced to buy new instead of cleaning it up with a little buffing and TLC.
