CORRECTION: It appears that last year when the new starter decks were released, existing players would only receive copies of cards that they did not yet own. So it seems if you already have 1 copy of a rare from one of the starter decks, and there's only 1 copy of the rare in the deck, you won't receive any extra copies. Sadness.
This means you might want to avoid crafting any of the rares in the decks that you currently have zero copies of, unless you just can't wait.

CORRECTION: It appears that last year when the new starter decks were released, existing players would only receive copies of cards that they did not yet own. So it seems if you already have 1 copy of a rare from one of the starter decks, and there's only 1 copy of the rare in the deck, you won't receive any extra copies. Sadness.

And it doesn't stop there, I also didn't get the ones I didn't have a copy before. Is it a bug, am I the only one ?

As a new Arena player, I want to share something about unlocking these decks: I played through the tutorial, then the color challenges, and after that I started Sparky's Quest with Starter Deck Duels. Every time I won a match with one of the decks, I added that deck to my collection. When I got 5 of them, I found on the Internet that you could mark an option on the game that said something like "Unlock all game modes". I tried it because I wanted to know which game modes would I be able to play. I think it was through Options and then Account to find it. When I did that, the 5 remaining decks were added to my collection without winning a game with them. I didn't even play with them, and they were unlocked. Just sharing, hope this helps somebody.

Hi, you're right, you can skip to unlocking all play modes. I think if you're a player who has enough experience that you just want to skip ahead and get into the other formats, that makes a lot of sense, but if you're a completely new player, you'll probably want to play through the whole experience to make sure there's nothing you miss.

@@gameschooldadMTG I agree with you. If you are new Magic player I would also recommend you to play through all the tutorials and initial quests. Even if you are not new to Magic but you are new to Arena it would also be helpful. In my case I unlocked them when I already got five so I just skipped a few matches at the end of the road.

Thanks for this! I find myself playing the starter deck battles all the time to easily (and for a break from the meta) complete my daily quests... all the color combos, one for lands, one for creatures... only quest I don't use for is kill creatures. Cheers!

Yeah, cards from Wilds of Eldraine will be legal in Alchemy until September 2025, and Standard until September 2026, so there's a very long life in them. Thanks for your comment :)

Hi, thanks for the info. I'm a returning player - left after innistrad midnight hunt, so I only have that set collected, so I have all the newer sets to collect. I see in the starter deck event all of the old starter decks from back then and none of the new ones... Then I started checking to see if I got any of the new cards, and it looks like they are not in my collection. Well I would like to be able to play this event and try to start building my standard collection, but it looks like I will be stuck playing with all of the old starter decks without the new ones? Am I missing a step or something?

One can easily mill with the dimir deck using halo charded scabs to reset your breach

Hi there, I was wondering is there some sort of cooldown on how often these decks can be unlocked? I've unlocked "legions of phyrexia" by winning games in starter deck duels, but when I moved on to try "growing hope" it seems like I can't unlock the deck. I've won more than 10 games with it and it still will not unlock for me in the deck editor.

I think you will receive the rest of the decks as soon as you are ranked in bronze

I didn't see any cooldown effect when I went through the new player experience again recently. If you're unlocking these for the first time, a win should definitely add them to your collection as far as I know. If you've unlocked the previous starter decks that have just been rotated out, then the new starter decks will be added to your account soon. There was a glitch in the last update and I think the only starter decks that appear in your account will be ones that you've already unlocked all the cards for. I'm sure they'll update that soon enough.

Are these cards already available for me to create my own deck for Standard mode? Or I need to play at least a single game with pre-definied deck in order to have them in my collection? How does it go?

The decks were only available during this week's Midweek Magic, but they will be released fully soon to every player. You might already have some of the cards in these decks anyway. I think when they release we'll probably have to play one game with them to unlock them.

Any cards you're missing from the decks will be automatically added to your collection and the decks will appear under the Starter Deck section of the Deck tab.

@MilesE19 I believe you have to have a win with them first. But there seems to be a bit of a bug, as I've won with them all, however only the red/green Dino rage deck shows up in "my decks". However I can play them all in the starter deck event. I've sent wizards a ticket to try and resolve this.

Not sure if anyone has asked, but can you switch the colors from deck to deck? I.E. Instead of playing Red/Blue VS White/Green, you play Red/Green VS Blue White?

If you're doing the Starter Deck Duel format, you can pick any of the decks, and you'll play against a random opponent. You can't pick what you'll be up against.

Standard is so stale right now. I’ve been playing for years and I’m enjoying playing the starter decks. Not having a deck full of back breaking cards make strategy way more important.

Without playing them each a few times, it's hard to say, but if I had to pick a top 3 right now, I'd say Selesnya Counters, Azorius Soldiers and maybe the Golgari Graveyard deck. We'll be able to see which ones are actually best when they are released in the coming weeks.

Will the new starter decks be given away to players, or will they just replace the tutorial? prize for newcomers?

They will replace the current 2 colour starter decks for new players who unlock them after the tutorial, before completing Spark Rank. For existing players they'll either just automatically unlock them or we might have to 'win' them in the Starter Deck Duel event.

@@franciscoquiaro3082as a player who primarily plays Brawl, Dimir would immediately have me making two new decks (Rusko and Hidetsugo). Getting Nahiri and Samut for free at some point is also a huge bonus!

Wizards said on Reddit that there was an unexpected bug with rolling out the new decks to existing players and they are working on it.

These were temporarily available under the Midweek Magic event this week as a preview. They will be released for all players sometime in the next month or two.

I played them all and here are my notes white red : weak and frustrating... avoid white green : strong and easy to master... repetitive blue red : fun to play and full of situations where you have make decisions that matter... hard to master and very rewarding

Yeah... Either these are shit or I suck. Got recked with every one of those decks. Not a single win in more than an hour. Thanks, but I guess these are not for beginners at all. I have played against almost all of them and I never got the cards roll my opponents got. It's painful when you play against the deck which rolls with attack cards, but when you try it you either don't get any lands or any attack cards

@@gameschooldadMTG yep, the same. Got recked every time. People playing them have pets, sleeves and so on, so I suspect it's just experienced players fishing for daily quests.

Giving a starter deck breech? Do they want people to learn how annoying it can be to play arena? May as well give the soldier deck a horn of OP BS, or just give them a skrelv toxic deck. Hell, give em a nazgul deck to *showcase* just how painful the game has become..

Breach is definitely much more of a painful card when the deck includes more Sheoldred, Etali, Atraxa or similar creatures. If the general power level of the deck is lower, it takes some of the effectiveness out of Breach automatically, so it might not be quite as bad as it sounds.
