In this video, Dr. Eric Westman reviews and debunks two major studies claiming a link between red meat and type 2 diabetes. Dr. Westman provides a critical analysis of the data, emphasizing the limitations of the studies, including their reliance on correlational evidence and small effect sizes. He also explores the role of confounders like obesity and lifestyle factors, explaining why red meat alone is unlikely to cause diabetes. No expensive beef, that I don't even like anymore with the excepton of few dishes that are hamburger based. One does not need to eat a meat based to achive this. It just takes soom logic and common sense. If you want it bad enought you'll do it without taking up radical eating habits.

Started carnivore/keto 8-weeks ago. In combination with intermediate fasting (18/6) and walking for an hour 5 days a week. Already lost 10 kg. Never felt so good and my blood sugar became better each week. In the morning on an empty stomach 4.8. Two hours after eating 5.8. I was a big eater before I started carnivore/keto and felt I never had eaten enough. With carnivore/keto I’m really satisfied after eating and don’t need to eat all the time.

All I know is, if it conflicts with Evolutionary Biology and Anthropology, it is probably nonsense. We made it this far as Hypercarnivores and Apex Predators and haven't died off as a species, so unless there is some sudden change to our biology, meat will not affect our health. Also, knowing that most "researchers" and doctors push plant-based nonsense also makes me question any study that finds some new bad effect caused by meat.

I agree, evolution supports a carne / omni diet. But how do you get unadulterated meat? Experiment with protein threshold. I am male, I have to keep my daily protein to below 120g a day to be high normals and below 90g to be optimal levels which means I have to under eat if I want opimal numbers. If i eat 2lbs of red meat, give or take, daily, my BG will raise to type 2 and stay there. It is 100% the protein, I did pretty much every experiement even trying the lion diet for months. I stayed Type 2 diabeitc for a year as a strict Carnivore becaue I listened to people like Dr Berry. He also falsely claims you can't eat too much protein and tries to rationalize high BG on Carnivore.

I will add an interesting fact to the discussion - increased insulin affects the level of liver hormones that regulate iron absorption; too much insulin = too much iron; so the relationship given in the first study may be the opposite - it is diabetes that causes increased iron; the authors of the study did not know? or did they want to mislead? - taking advantage of the fact that this is not widely known information...

@tprev400
@tprev400 2 часа назад
Insulin doesn't have to be raised to have your BG raised. Diabetes 2 is a measure of high blood glucose, not insulin. High insulin which is harder to measure consistently, is a measure of insulinemia which is just as bad as type 2 diabetes but it is not exclusivley tied to it, only in the context of a excessive glucose consumption. On it's own, red meat can raise BG if you consume too much protein, and in theory it can cause type two, but like excessvie glucose, it will not show up on tests for decades. Now if you were previously metabolically ill like me, that damage is there, so it is evident through tests that red meat, specifically protein, will raise my levels to type two. Carni docs like Westman and Berry, try to rationalize higher BG as normal and not damaging. Likely cause it would hit their pockets books if they admitted it. Either that, or they don't know and don't have the integrity to admit that.

People who are LOADED UP WITH CARBS.... shouldn't eat lots of Fats at the same time. High Insulin Levels force that fat into storage. Fructose also converts into fat (& uric acid) while failing to produce ATP. THE Sugar/Fat combo is a fast track to T2D.

My carnivore A1c is 6.2. 5 months ago it was 5.5. A1c of 6.5 is diabetes. Note, I had recently lowered my A1c via fasting for 21 days from 6.0 to 5.5. Then I went on a carnivore diet. My fasting glucose varies from 85 to 94. My glucose spikes after a meal is around 106. My LDL is 458, 5 months ago it was 123. I got a phone call from my doctor today, he said he never seen a patient with such a high LDL. I probably should make a change to my carnivore diet. Reduce my butter consumption, lower my protein, change my fat to protein ratio or adhere to it with greater discipline 1:1 2:1 grams?
@my-yt-inputs2580
@my-yt-inputs2580 2 часа назад
If your numbers are indeed correct this could be the case of having an inaccurate A1C. It is presumed that eating a very healthy diet causes the Red Blood cells to actually live longer. Living longer in circulation caused the longer liver red blood cells to pickup more glycation which results in a higher than normal HbA1c score. Since the HbA1C measures glycated hemoglobin this might skew the actual A1C to show higher/more glycation.

Experiment with protein, I have to keep mine below 120g a day to prevent type two levels and stay in high normals. Below 90g to get them to optimal levels, but that would be under eating for me so I tend to float around 90 - 110 and fasting as high as 120. If I eat excessive protein, i will end up having fasting at 140s and a above and it will chronically stay there until I reduce my protein consumption. Just to give you something to play with in case you want to experiment.

@@my-yt-inputs2580 Dr Boz said for carnivores to fast 16 hours before taking the blood test. I think I fasted about 21 hours, so that may have played into it? Next time I’ll fast 12 hours to see what happens. My LDL of 458 compared to the LMHR would place me among the highest in the study. My triglycerides are a little too high 92 and my HDL is 2X lower than the LMHR. My BMI is 3 points higher than the LMHR, maybe loosing some weight would help.

@@tprev400 I believe your quoting glucose values? If true, I believe I’m doing okay. My food spikes glucose to around 110 and then comes back into the normal range of 70 to 100. My morning fasting glucose is between 85 to 95. I fasted for 3 days a few weeks ago and my glucose went down to 67. I felt like I could die, a very uncomfortable sensation. Are you suggesting that I lower my protein intake to lower my LDL of 458?

Hba1c is not accurate biomarker for Carnivore diet. The reason hba1c can increase is because red blood cell turnover slows down on carnivore. Red blood cells stay alive longer which impacts hba1c measurements. Does this mean carnivore diet causes elevated blood glucose levels? No of course not. It is a category error

Your first comment was wrong right out of the gate. "Red meat doesn't raise Blood Glucose, very much". That is 100% wrong. I have been carnivore, strict, even did months of lion diets at high fat thresholds and the one lever, if I increase protein above a certain amount, my BG will go to type 2 levels. If I keep it under a certain amount, i can stay in high normals, but i have to undereat to get to opimal levels. I do believe Carni and Keto are superior for many reasons for metabolic purposes, but it is an absolute false statement to say, red meat can't raise blood glucose. It won't cause the spikes like glucose does, but it does absolutely raise it. Most won't know this cause they don't actively measure it and just like excessive glucose, it takes decades to see the damage it is doing on tests and that is likely happening with excessive protein as well, At least have some integrity and admit, you really don't know.

What disturbs me about "influencers", whichever point of view they have, is their "doubtless" defense of theories which may prove wrong in a few years. Doctors have an oath, "do no harm", to relegate eating one group of foods only is "questionable" to say the least, especially when science can prove that many varieties have many benefits, and to say nothing about their untapped value in the future. Doctors should be more humble, lest they cost the health of some of their patients. There is much that we ALL don't know!
