l only use tubs for the little babies and boy l couldnt even imagine putting a little Antaresia or a carpet python in an enclosure at a couple of months old. All my snakes are in enclosures once the get alittle size on them, as l am not a breeder and love setting them up for them, though plenty of climbing space l dont over crowd it for them, just offer branches, height and hammocks to enjoy. If you only have a few snakes totally set them up in an enclosure they love it.

Excellent topic Mr. G :) You wouldn't believe the people that insult me because I've trained all of my snakes to come out into large plastic totes out of their enclosures to take them out in my house or outdoors which I do several times each week and for some dumb reason people assume I keep my snakes in those plastic totes and I NEVER raise my snakes in plastic totes ROFL I totally agree my snakes love to watch me working around them in their snake room and in my house and I feel it's great for them to learn to adapt to activities around them daily :) Myself I have to see everything that's going on inside of my snakes enclosures !! Wise choice I so love my mini globe halogen lights from Zilla and stay stocked on the day white, night blue and night red halogen bulbs :)

Great video Garrett! I love seeing retics in natural enclosures! My albino male, that you gave me, absolutely loves his huge cage! He uses every square inch, especially his rock ledges! It'll be a few months before I buy a home but one of the first things I'll have is my first-ever pet snake. I couldn't decide on a Ball Python or a Super Dwarf so I'll get one of each! It's amazing to me that snake owners don't put lots of thought into enclosures and where your new friend will be spending most of it's life! I will be dedicating the corner of my living room, possibly floor to ceiling, and about 6-10 feet in length, to my snakes enclosure. I haven't decided on how the separation of the two snakes will work out, but I'll get there. My vision is to have a beautiful enclosure that adds an unusual & attractive dimension to my home.

@@ReachOutReptiles I will! This comment is lengthy, but I want/need to learn! You're a respected & passionate authority on Dwarves so, a couple questions from a possible customer. 1.) I'm a responsible 50 y/o who will do whatever it takes for my snake's well-being. Do any alarm bells go off in your head _for you as a professional_ when I say I want two snakes, a Ball & a Dwarf, as a beginner? I know that depends on the individual owner, but you can safely assume I will give above-average care to my animals. I have familiarized myself, at a basic level through videos, in the very different personalities of Balls & Dwarves. I do realize Dwarves are more active, more bite-prone, need more attention, & sometimes aren't recommended as a first snake. 2.) Is it possible to pick my snakes up personally when I'm ready to buy? I'm self-employed & love to travel. I usually make a couple trips per year riding, photographing & studying wooden roller coasters, which is a hobby. _I would love to_ pick up my snakes on my way back to Texas after a trip this year, or on a dedicated trip. I'll check out your website which I'm sure will answer other questions I may have. Thanks for enduring a long comment from a possible near-future customer!
@ReachOutReptiles
@ReachOutReptiles 5 месяцев назад
@@crooked-halo You can certainly pick up here in person! With both species- the difficulty in the care is going to be more about providing proper temperatures and humidity than anything else. Like dog breeds, starting with a puppy, will help you acclimate it to your lifestyle. It is no different with these snakes. So if you’re willing to provide proper husbandry and commit to learning with your snake as they grow- I think both species are great candidates. With the SD/Dwarf retics- I’d recommend getting into a smaller bloodline, most difficulty in keeping come from large size. But many of our pure SD animals are actually smaller than Ball Pythons, so you should be fine.

I went with an old tree root that was decorating my front yard for a few years, and some really beautiful tropical plants in the largest EXO-TERRA 36"x18"x18" enclosure (cuz I don't do plastic). I used 2" of hydro balls topped with brown repticarpet, and covered that with 50/50 cypress mulch and coconut earth. There is also a moss-covered cork hollow log and it looks like a slice of jungle! Jeeves, my SD Golden Child dug himself a pit behind the root over the heat pad for a hide, and he basks on the root, under the heat/UVB lamp and I think he loves it!

Depending on your experience with enclosures, smaller may be better until you are confident it is escape proof. Also 8x5x5 is a massive enclosure and unless you have an amazing relationship with your animal, they might not come out very often and you may have to hunt through a large enclosure just to find them.
