Screen for the backseat added but not for the driver is insane. Our backseat is empty almost always.

You don’t need one, I’ve driven for 5 years without one and never cared. The speed read out is literally easier to see than looking down. You don’t even NEED a HUD since the speedo is within peripheral vision and it’s easy to see, that is if you have a brain cell or two.

Why not? I know for a fact my kids would love to have a screen there. It's completely sperate blue tooth setup so you can connect headphones to it, it's an extremely easy to use to control climate as well. Sounds like you love plastic vents. The question isn't why is it needed, the question is why is it such a problem for you? it's a luxury addition for a sub 40k car and just cause OP has no kids or no friends that sit in the backseat means other people are just like him. The lack of turn signal levers is troublesome. There are plenty of roundabouts here in Sweden, and the law here says you blink right when you drive out of the roundabout (lefthand drive in Sweden), and if you don’t you will get fined if you are caught by the police.

Indeed, what is wrong with a stalk? Also, I've only ever driven a Model Y, but where is the drive mode i.e. park, reverse, drive etc. (screen?..) Also how to do you engage autopilot without the drive mode stalk? (screen?...) I think being hell bent on getting rid of something that has been the same on a steering wheel since forever is going in the wrong direction.. With my hand I can flick and press buttons rather quickly instead of fumbling to look for them or think about what button, rotary switch on a rotating steering wheel.. Also what about people who drive multiple vehicles, like a company vehicle? Keeping a few things common with other vehicles is a good thing for familiarity. I like what Tesla has done, but keep a few tactile items at my reach please!

It's really not hard to use the turn indicator buttons. It takes maybe a week to get used to it. I have it on the Model X yoke. It's actually safer in the sense that you can keep both hands on the wheel while pressing the indicator.

You’ll get used to it, you will get used to knowing where they are on the wheel. It takes maybe 3-4 days, maybe 2 weeks if you’re really stupid. I just hope they will refresh the MODEL Y to be the OFF-ROAD brother of the Model 3, and justify the higher price by adding active air suspension, integrated sunroof covers, and maybe even an extra paid option for flood/deep water resistance up to the door handles at least, so we can trully have peace of mind in case of emergencies. (Electric vehicles can be the true conquers of hurricanes and flooding since they don't rely on air intake for driving, and they could introduce shutters for the cabin air intake, to protect it against dirty flood water, and recirculate the cabin air trough propper filters to help the air quality while in deep water.)

I very recently had a 21 plate Model 3 LR loaner for 3 weeks and it is a fabulous car. I normally drive a Model S and I do like the smaller dimensions of the Model 3. I do miss the extra information that the screen in front of you gives you in the Model S, so I would probably get an aftermarket screen or heads up if/when I move to the Model 3. The improved refinements of the 'facelift' Model 3 will simply make it an even more compelling buy. The combination of better efficiency, longer range and faster charging will make a noticeable change on very long trips.

I don’t own a Tesla. Never have. It’s a beautiful car. As I read through the comments what strikes me is the difficulty people have adjusting to change.. “It’s not like my Chevy!” or “I can’t figure out where the controls are!” - When I see my twenty something kids handle their iPhone and all of its settings I realize my inadequacy at using the iPhone 😀 isn’t an iPhone problem, it’s a me problem. My kids are good at using their iPhone because they handle it frequently. I’m sure the Tesla is the same - you have to use it a few times before you understand it and you have to be willing to adjust to the new normal. I’m not insulting anyone - I’m older than most people reading this. This is wonderful and cool technology created by creative young people - just have to roll with the changes and embrace them.

Thanks for the review Robert. Indicators on buttons the steering wheel - an absolute car crash in my opinion. I have been using the flappy paddle regen controls on our Ioniq 6 recently to switch modes as I slow down to stop and again when I speed up from stationary, for reasons that aren’t important here. My observation from doing this is that unless the steering wheel is pretty close to its normal resting position, it isn’t possible for me to get my head around where the flappy paddles are, because they are bolted to the back of the steering wheel. When I am slowing down or pulling away from stationary, the steering wheel is often not straight, and it is just not possible to find the paddles. Now think indicators, and think how often you turn them on or off when the wheel is not straight. For example, UK road rules for roundabouts require you to change your indicators mid way round, and for many of the smaller ones, the wheel is nowhere near straight for the duration of being on the roundabout. Now think having to find these indicator buttons that are not where they are supposed to be - and you will be able to imagine just how silly they will be to use. Unless, of course, I am the only person in world who would get thrown off by this. I suppose we will find out.

As soon as I got on smaller roads with round-abouts, it became a real pain in the backside, since I often had to click the indicator button while it was out of reach when turning the yoke... I like progess and all, but some things are better as they are... The new Model 3 looks very interesting - I have no doubt I will get to drive one of those too very soon.

The comment I was looking for .. this thing sounds like a real pain for Europeans with tons of roundabouts, curvy roads and everything,.. I don't understand why Tesla's can't just be good cars to use, they are deliberately painful to use... (Turn on wipers, open glovebox, use indicators, use Android auto...)
@ScramJett
@ScramJett 9 месяцев назад
I’d reckon that it’s because Tesla is an American car company and there are hardly any roundabouts in America at all. You’d think Tesla could bother to take feedback from their EU customers or, at least, send some engineers to Europe (or in all parts of the world they sell their cars, since other countries might have differences too) to see how well their designs work in those places. It’s not like they can’t build different spec models, they already adopted the EU plug standard while still using their own proprietary standard in the US (which will be part of the new NACS standard starting in ’24/’25).

USA-centric design where they don't have roundabouts and/ or understand the need to use indicators mid-turn... One of the stupidest design choices I've seeon on a car and surprised they could even get type approval for it tbh.. Some ‘tubers have been punished for their honesty. (Criticism of the after-sales of VW and Tesla have put them at the back of the queue) I very much hate the cheapskate(minimalist) design philosophy of Tesla. All mostly improvements, but I saw this coming, the capacitive buttons - especially the turn signals, I was hoping wouldn't make it over. But at least the horn is still in the only acceptable place, rather than where they put it on the other models. Had they made the horn capacitive, that would have been a deal-breaker for me, because that is just plain not safe at all and makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Glad some sense made it to the Model 3 regarding that perplexing decision. Minimalism should not impede the use of the vehicle and definitely should not impede the safety.

Why didnt they put the right turn signal on the right side of the steering wheel. And the left on the left side. Its stupid to have them stack on top of eachother. Ofcourse stocks are better, but they want to minimize parts, OK THEN PUT THE LEFT SIGNAL ON THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT ON THE RIGHT. ATLEAST THAT. To me this is a HUGE dealbreaker. Zero thought. @@andrxmeda97 totally agree 100%. I also find the positioning with one on top of the other completely illogical. At least if you want to go digital make it logical and not randomly. LEFT for LEFT and RIGHT for RIGHT. It would still be a mess without STALKS but a bit better than what it is currently. The Ferrari makes more sense. It's still bad but les awkward. Here you really have to see where you put your fingers. While with Ferrari you know immediately where to put them. Gear selector on the main screen is also a masterclass 👌or ergonomic and industrial design. Imagine you are doing a three-point turn in a high traffic boulevard on a Monday morning and your screen is not reactive or is suddenly freezing for a few second. What are you going to do? You pray that the car in front of you going 90km/h will stop soon enough before crashing into you? at this stage i don't know anymore who's more criminal. People just wont indicate when they have 2 and 3/4 turns of lock on. People just wont do it. This thing is built for simple american instersections and nothing else. Its really poor design for most of the world. Tesla will change it eventually. Guarenteed.

@@InquisitiveBaldMan Even on the same roundabouts and corners you can end up with slightly different amounts of lock. There's alot of people who seem to think they're on a track when driving and keep their hands locked to the wheel, not sure how they manage tight turns but my guess is their experience is in America where that's not a problem.

The update makes the car look so much better. But the no stalks is a deal breaker for me. Just like the yolk steering wheel, and Tesla learned their lesson with that.

"you can tell the quality of the built by the sound of the closing door" ... this was one of the funniest things that car salespeople used to tell during test drives and I always thought of that as the cheapest way to sell something! Tesla, BMW, Mercedes and everyone else out there, the quality of you cars can't be "sold" based on the sound of the closing door!

I love this new design. Current models looks a bit like a boiled frog to me. Now I feel like it is tied with the otherwise best looking EV, Polestar 2. The new front looks much more sporty and chiseled. The rear looks like they took elements from Polestar and Audi and put them together, but they really did a good job of tying everything together.

I would imagine that when driving in really dark areas that the position of the mood lighting would be very distracting.

@@ogzombieblunt4626 So what's the point. If you like mood lighting then they should have placed it lower in the car.

@@ohyesitsme The point is you can easily turn it off if ur in a dark area. I wouldn't find it anymlre distracting than the screen or a HUD.

My M3LR is coming to the end of its finance but the refresh isn’t compelling enough for me to consider at all when other EV manufacturers offer gauge clusters, heads up display, 360 surround camera, indicators on stalks 😅 etc… etc… I personally was hoping for more. I don’t get why so many of you are saying this is amazing when it’s utterly underwhelming

I waited over a year for a model S and gave up only to be told it wasn’t going to be sold anyway. The one issue I have with model 3’s - everyone’s got one!
