My 2001 car gets a new timing belt and water pump (as well as other related accessories) after about 17 years and 98,980 miles on them.
This kind of service is expensive, but this is the type of thing you want done BEFORE something goes wrong, and I am very happy with my results.

I wonder if perhaps you don't feel as much vibrations in the wheel is because the engine mount was removed and reinstalled. Perhaps the bolts for it were ever so slightly loose. I've also often fixed things many times by taking them apart, making no adjustments, and putting them back together again. I cannot explain that phenomenon, but it has proven true many times for me. Anyway, it was important that all got done. Now you can drive knowing you won't have to worry about that for quite some time. That's a huge burden off anyone's shoulders.

One thing I didn't mention in the video because I didn't realize it until afterwards, was on occasion I would get a bit low engine RPM (maybe just over 500) as I was just about to fully stop, and then once I did stop, it went back to normal. That seems to have gone away completely since this work was done. Yeah I am very glad I had this work done, I feel much better about it now. I think I had this on my mind maybe a year or two ago when I was talking with you at your place.

Mazda's are good cars, I've had a couple of them over the years. I had an 83 626 that ran until over 260K miles and later i had an 89 MX6. Glad to hear that isn't an interference engine and also that the water pump doesn't use the timing belt. My father had a Chrysler Concorde and the water pump ran off the timing belt. Stupidest engineering move ever IMHO. The pump failed and broke the timing belt resulting in the engine being trashed. He had been planning on trading the car in maybe 6 months from then but that timetable got moved up to now once this happened. He wasn't about to invest in a full valve job on a car he was planning on getting rid of.

Yeah I'm not a fan of that engineering either. I'm glad my timing belt just runs the cams, and nothing else, makes more sense that way. What happened with that engine there sure sounds like a worst case scenario. Given what was going on with my engine here, looks like I replaced all that stuff at just the right time!

Why did the 626 get passed over to you in 2006, how many miles did it have and what cars do your mum and dad have?

My bro got a new car in that year, and I had always wanted this one for a long time, haha. My mom has a 2007 Ford Edge, my dad has a 2004 Nissan 350 Z, and a 1998 Honda Accord.
