New Tips for the KSGER T 12 Soldering Station
HEY YOU ABOUT TO POST SOMETHING STUPID:
Yes, I know my hands are large/fat. It's because of a heart condition I suffer from called Congestive Heart Failure. Here's a link to some information about CHF: cle.clinic/2TdS2Ux
One of the symptoms is that is causes fluid retention, mostly in the hands, feet/ankles, and face.
It will kill me one day. I'm doing ok right now, but someday...

No need to apologize for a medical condition Paul ..only insensitive fools without compassion and empathy would ever dare complain about someones personal health issues ..I have an incurable medical issue myself that I acquired some years ago which will probably kill me in the end too ..all we can do is make the best of it and enjoy life while we can ..and you are helping many of us do that with your very useful knowledge and skills in electronics that you are sharing with us ..thanks so much Paul ..you are very much appreciated! ..so keep up the good work! Ignore the ignorant jerks out there ..they come and go ..they're just too darn stupid to know any better. Doug.

I've been watching numerous reviews on these. And your video review confirms that it's a must as my first bench soldering station.

Looks like I’m going to have to save up for a T 12. Great video Paul. I was hoping this would make a good station. I love my TS 100 but the tips for it are very expensive. Have a great day and I hope your mom is doing better every day. Thanks for what you do man.

I recommend using the chisel tip for electronics, and the K tip could be used for wood burning or desoldering SMD things

K type tip is my preferred tip for drag soldering. It's also wide enough sometimes I can heat up both sides/legs of a component to desolder it. It's a very flexible type of tip that I wouldn't have a soldering bench without.

I haven't experimented much with diff tips but i do just the same as u...always tin the tip before putting away. Great tip (pardon the pun) for anyone who wants it to last.

I like mine for soldering two wires together.. it has that long beveled surface that covers all the bare wire at ones and bang done. Although I use other tips for other things, my R-s or my BC-1 or IL-s or the D-24.. whatever is called for on my project. Well to each their own huh...

I have this soldering station. I didn't see you change the tip setting in the station when you put in the new tip. The controller relies on knowing what tip is inserted in order to work correctly. Also mine does not have options for using every tip available. I have been using the closest setting with mixed results.
@gartmorn

Looks like a worthwhile investment, especially if you're on a tight budget. Definitely change the tip straight away! My tip of choice is the traditional wedge shape which I learned on but any of the three in your pack look serviceable! May treat myself in the future but do I really need another soldering iron, hmmm.....

Usually sellers allow you to choose from a variety of tips but by default they send you K type - at least it was what i've seen so far About your K tip it is useful for cleaning BGA pads along with solder wick A tip that i recommend that works good for almost anything is the T12-D12

Spade type tips are good for certain applications; namely if you have an IC you need to solder onto a board - or even desoldering... you can use these to swipe across all of the pins at once. These are fantastic for clearing up solder puddles which connect 2 or more pins together, they are great for tinning all of the pads at once. They are great for adding the final polish to the solder joint by swiping across them at the end. That is typically what these larger flat ones are good for. The actual flat spades are great for scraping components off such as LEDs, etc.. things you won't re-use. Or desoldering larger sections. The angled ones are to help with how you hold the iron relative to the pads. The spade should be flat against the board, and tilting based on how big the pads are, how much head you need to apply, etc... These are excellent dynamic tips. You can use the tip for fine work, and you can use the spade for larger area work, you can desolder / solder lots of pads at once, do finishing work, etc... They are incredibly versatile when you know the applications. Hopefully this has helped you with that aspect. Edit: IF you do through-hole work mainly then there are better tips. Namely the round spades, etc... but you can still use this. I prefer different tips for through-hole stuff, and for other fine work. But for chips, a space is really difficult to beat. You can use the tip to tack weld a pin on, then swipe all of the pads at once to connect them together ( obviously tin first ) and it prevents the issue with shorts. edit: The round spade I'm referring to is the BC02 one you got in your pack. Those are good for through-hold because you can use the flat part to heat up the pad and the pole to head up the pin at the same time. Transfers a lot of heat, and can also be used to scrap pins on an smc; however the flatter spades are better for this ( angled too ). The D24 is also really good for through-hole and can also be used for smcs... will likely only hit 2 or 3 of the pins at a time, but if you overlap your swipes then it can be used effectively too.

I got my third of this station this day. On this one the display was dim. I contacted the seller, and they told me that the was the protective plastic on the lcd that was to dark. They sent me an a new glass that istn so dark. That will solve the problem. So your display is bright behind the dark plastic.

Shame that you only tested conical tip here. Which one of the 3 that you bought is best to buy in your opinion. I have t12 kit, also wit type K tip and its really terrible. Not even taking solder properly...
@NordicDan

I had to laugh about the K tip. I agree that there isn't really much use for it in an electronics application (aside from a select few wire splices or terminals), but I immediately had a use for it, in removing the soldered-on RF shield containing the internal power supply in my NES to replace the capacitors and install the HDMI kit. The one thing out of countless soldering applications and I almost right away had a use for the most useless tip out there lol.

Paul, As far as the issue with the brightness of the display, some of these stations were made with a smoky or dark plexiglass window. Yours wouldn't be one of them, would it?
@learnelectronics
@learnelectronics 5 лет назад
Yes it would. I removed the very dark plexi and the display is now quite readable even in bright light.

The type K tip should work well for heavy soldering such as pl259s.
@FixDaily
@FixDaily 5 лет назад
No need for K type, this station is very efficient, regular tips do a great work on it aswell, but you can still use a T12-D52 which is the larger one i believe. Well there are other tips for BGA with a large area (like T12 1402), but for connectors will not work :v

Hi , liked your video, i have one of these myself, and like to have the odd small project or repair job going just to keep me practicing. i havent checked all the comments so apologies in advance if someone has maybe told you , i happened to notice you mentioned the screen being dim...have you had a close look on the screen surface at all ...try a real thin needle near a corner or along the edge ..pretty sure you will find the same thing i did, there is a layer of cellophene on there..i guess it was so it doesnt get scratched. mines was on there pretty good. but took my time and got an edge up enough to grab it with tweezers and slowly up came the rest. Hope that Helps. screen was a lot sharper and brighter after i took that off !!

K-Type tips have some useful applications like being able to touch both sides of SMD parts to remove them, or squeegee solder across a new DIY printed circuit board to tin it. But I don't think it should be included as the only tip, it's not a general purpose electronics tip. Search for how to use k type tips for more examples. I am partial to a 3/32" screwdriver tip. I like the blunt-ish conical tip you have, sharper conical tips are too cold at the tip end.

I've used the K type for surface mount ics , which is what it is supposed to be for. See the Hakko website: www.hakko.com/english/tip_selection/type_k.html The advantage of replaceable tips is you can use the right one for the job.
@AndehX
@AndehX 5 лет назад
I think your opinion on the K tip is really just that. An opinion. As I use the K tip primarily for pretty much everything, and it works great. Has great surface area for transfering lots of heat to ground planes, and also has good surface area for joining wires together. It's also the best tip to use for drag soldering SMD chips, which I doubt you could do with that IL tip....

Really nice, dude! Those tips are really good! 😊 I used the chisel tip a lot, mainly for multirotor electronics (escs and so on). 😊 BTW, about the part "someday I'm going to kill myself" in the description, I feel your pain. I have depression since 1992... And, well... Anyway... Before you do anything, search about FPV. It's an amazing experience! One worth living for! 😊
