Sorry guys.. Re-uploaded this one to add a warning re: soldering batteries.
@Acecool

I modified my rework station so the hot air gun can be unplugged instead of soldered directly to the board. Makes it alot easier to deal with. First time I'm seeing one of these mini / pencils. Going to take a look to see if it is self contained or not. If so, I'll see if I can buy it and wire it up - thanks for supplying a list of your gear.... I would recommend making a Google Document or a spreadsheet and list equipment by year, and as you add / remove stuff update it.. then link that in all your videos instead of having to edit every description each time. But then again, having a complete list in each video is also nice. Thank you for doing that.

Looking back is always creative ha, ha. But, if switch to PCB orientation is correct, for future service I would solder wires with terminals that fit, perhaps bent at 90 degrees and shrink tube, but install them with needle nose pliers. If you had to go back in for any reason. But that is the auto tech in me coming out. Thanks! Also, these are back ordered on Banggood as well!

Hi Dean, no worries 👍.. And thanks.. Suggestions & mods etc are always welcome my friend. I happened to read your channels 'ABOUT' post. And found that our stories are no so dissimilar, as I was an auto tech too here in the UK. I worked in a few smaller garages, then ended up as Foreman & MOT inspector etc at a main Nissan Dealership. Like you I also gave up many years ago though as spinal disc issues were becoming soooo painful. In fact whilst my back was being scanned they then discovered I had a huge bone tumour in my pelvis, which major surgery couldn't completely remove. Anyway.. repairing cars (which I loved) was not an option anymore.. So my tools came home also, and now an oil change every so often on my own car is about the limit. Cheers Buddy John

@@OrbiterElectronics So sorry to hear about your lumbar pain. There are no two ways to describe it, it sucks. Example; Grass needs mowed, I use a Cain to stand behind a self propelled lawnmower. Does that sound right? I had a guy try for 4 months to hire me to work at his shop as he needed another tech. Started in spring on a new bill top gas station/ repair shop. Concrete sunk on South side. We cut blocks to get cars inside. They removed the concrete, fixed a drain, then it rained. After 3 weeks of rain, they removed tarps to dry. He comes to me and says “Run the compaction machine!” I said no! You have 9 guys paid by the hour that can do that! Well, I lost, it’s gas powered, jumps up & down, designed for two workers but older, rented and no instruction. What looked dry, turned into mud. I had to pick it up, move it and repeat. 5hrs later, I hit kill, locked my tool box, drove home and woke up will like a rear bad sunburn. I had disc bad, fixed, sent home and dropped in pain. Had bone fused to S1-L5-L4. Dr. told me live nerves trapped in muscle now destroyed and scar tissue. I wore a chair brace, taught at UTI for $12k per year, quit and answered an add for tech at dealer for imports. It was Buick dealer and they took in Isuzu as the Geo line went to Chevy. I worked 7AM to 9PM, 6 days a week. Bad-buy-sell with our move to new to location. They lost the dealer. After 11 years of teaching, holding tech seminars for 100+ in 7 states, 13 colleges, 5 warehouses to deal with defects, tore rotator cuff, Dr pulled plug on career. SSD to took workers comp, left me high & dry. Garage is packed, back burns bending, walking, standing. Two more fusions them implant. I had good success after 3 days, then they cut wires and un-tapped stimulator. Next, Implant. Does not work. Now screwed with 4 tool boxes, equipment of every kind. Stare at my truck while I get yelled at. Son wants me to fix 80’s cars and wife wants everything else. Can’t do either. Long walk on short pier, next!

@@deankay4434 Sounds about right buddy & perfectly understood. Seems we're not too dissimilar with our knackered spines. I didn't go the surgery route on my spine but was offered it. I heard to many horror stories of further problems, a bit like yours :( Because my spine isn't fused I think that's why I keep rupturing discs, It's happened many many times now.. so like you just standing, walking or even doing menial daily tasks is a nightmare (most of my issues are to do with how the remains of my tumour interact with my spine & gait.) I believe as techs we are just susceptible to spinal injuries. I'm reckon the injuries just start immediately when younger with the day after day bending, being stuck in that arched under bonnet/hood position. I guess things are a bit better these days as larger garages with decent management have the various helpful pieces of equipment to aid with the job. Even in my 50s I still go to physio but it doesn't really do anything. In fact I never had sciatica before I started on the physio many years ago 😏 I just keep taking the pain killers.. And try not to consider the pier, although some days it really is hard aye. Take care mate John

Hi.. really great and explanatory video. I just have one question regarding if you need to ground to earth the case or not? The case is supposed to be made of Anodized Aluminum and I had seen many posts and videos noticing that the case should be ground to earth. Thanks again!
@OrbiterElectronics
@OrbiterElectronics 4 года назад
Hi.. Yes to be 100% safe, the chassis of the unit should be grounded. Should something manage to come loose or break, or worse say the case got wet inside during operation, there could be a live condition created. Come to think of It.. I can't remember if any of the units I obtained were grounded. I'll have to check that 👍

I built one with that exact power supply yesterday, i pretty much did the same reasoning about ho to connect, cover and heatshrink things (not really a professional, but i've been a hobbiyst for 10 years now). My problem is that either the tip and the case aren't grounded, the ground tracks on the pcb are uncovered and run on the sides of it (probably in the hope of making contact with the guides of the case). For the controller board the ground isn't connected to the tip... What would you suggest ?

@@kryspinsowiak2415 Is it the kit version you are working with? Please note.. I'm only advising here on the understanding that you understand the dangers of MAINS circuitry. If not please get someone who does to help you with this. Firstly check the fuses.. There is normally one in the power supplies main socket (under the on/off switch) & another on the PCB. Check that the solder Iron is connected to it's power supply properly and that all connections are good, also check that the solder Iron tip is fitted in properly. I have had one of these were the tip needed pulling out and shoving-in further, as it was not connecting properly with the solder Iron handle. Once the tip was fitted properly.. it worked.

Its not perfect but without a specific temperature guage at least you'll have an idea.

Can you confirm the hw sw version from your screen pls? Because your screen are diferent from the BG link in your video description (the link looks like sw 2.09 hw 2.0) This vídeo from another RU-vidr shows the diference of the screens at 1:00 minute ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yZlq8CKKnSs.html ... the v2.1 have the battery fixed (not wired) and the iron pen wired not directly fixed (but could be upgrated for a board like yours). As well as the kit type there are two different standard types, but they are very similar, mainly differing around their battery connectivity. Also I know of three main-board versions, there is the kit one plus two others, which are v2.01 & v2.03 The displayed HW/SW numbers on the kit I made is.. HW 2.00 / SW 2.09.
