Great knowledge, I had been researching what would be my first choice and had made my mind up on the Garrett 400 so I was made up when you popped one up as a starter.
Just bought the 200i. The 400i was too expensive for me. Thanks for your video it explained a lot. I'm kinda wondering where I can do it now since I know the land behind my house is an SSSI and that the park near us doesn't permit it (it's in their FAQs). So I guess i'm going to be hunting around my own garden for a bit lol.
Thank you for your kind words. Do you have a beach near by? Most beaches can be detected. Or do you have a metal detecting club local to you? Take a look of Facebook for organised digs near you, for around £20 you can have a days dig. There are several big rallies over the year, Detectival and Rodney Cook Memorial rally to name just two.
Excellent info. I was actually excited to see that that Garrett model comes with it's headphones and pin pointer 😀 I've detected long ago; boy the machines have come leaps and bounds better since then 👍 Thanks for all of this information. I'm in the states so the local Council portion won't be a situation that I'll have to deal with; those in Europe and other countries will most likely need to heed this tid bit for sure.
@@SuffolkSifter I am indeed a subscriber, am notified and always anxious for your videos to show as loaded. I was also watching your live show when you were having so much difficulty with the chat program ☺
People do use them, but personally I would get a mainstream brand, even if it is second user. Maybe a Garrett, or Simplex. Depends on your budget, I use an XP Deus 2, there are some good deals to be had on the older Deus 1, or even the cheaper simpler to use XP ORX.
Great video. When I first went out, I got my first buzz. I dug all day, massive hole, then I remembered I had steel toe caped boots on. Good straight forward advice, thanks.
@@lewisgardner1660 - I am sure that someone made them or described how you make one. I made one and stuck it over the US scale with tape, not professional, but it worked. I would ask in the ACE 250 Facebook forums.
Hi, yes, it is still a great machine, check out www.regton.com for the latest deals and don't forget to use my discount code for 10% off most items. Code: SSDISC Don't forget to sub 😉
Hi Ian, Many thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it. Garrett is a great brand and the 200i is a good entry level model. It should get you into metal detecting. I started off with a Garrett ACE 250, that got me into the hobby. When you are truly 'hooked', then maybe think about upgrading to a higher model? If you need any accessories in the meantime, feel free to use my discount code: SSDISC, that will get you 10% off most items on the Regton Ltd website - regton.com/👍 Thanks again and please consider subscribing, hitting the BELL and ticking ALL to get notifications of new videos and of my Wednesday LIVE streams 😎
@@SuffolkSifter thanks for the reply. I've always wondered what lies beneath where we walk especially near where I live (not far from you in suffolk) in North West Essex where it is extremely rich in history with nearby Hedingham Castle and Colchester further to the east so the garret 200 is a starting point I suppose. I only asked as going on the horrifically inflated prices of many, I just wondered if the 200 was woefully inadequate for the job but I'm happy with it as a starting point at least. I have a friend who is quite experienced in the art so will try and learn from him. Thanks again
@@ianross04 - Going out with a buddy is great, you will learn a lot. You don't have to spend the earth on a detector, you may well decide to upgrade after a while. But no point buying a Deus 2 at £1399, then not like the hobby and give up. As well as an XP Deus, I have the Garrett ACE Apex and really enjoy it. Good luck and happy hunting 👍
@@SuffolkSifter Sorry that anyone should feel the need to thumbs down or give anyone grief over your video. Even after 42 years of TH'ing I am always listening to what others have to say and share. Your suggestions are spot on as far as I can see. I look forward to more of your videos. Great job on the video. More! We want more! LOL ;-)
@@SuffolkSifter Sour grapes? Poor sports? Upset over not winning? These are the people that I do not want to associate with! Win, lose, or draw I give credit to everyone and my comments are about how I feel about that person on that video. I think I have only given one or two thumbs down in all the years I have been on you tube and they were on people that said it was OK to trespass and when caught ask forgiveness. My comments would always be to ask permission first never forgiveness after. I guess when I get set up in our new home I will start posting my help video, then hunt videos. I went out yesterday in 91 degree temps! I was soaked in sweat! I did find one fired US Civil War .58 cal three ringer bullet, a bent up percussion cap, three small round balls (maybe from a buck and ball), and a piece of lead that looks like it might be from the back of a US Breast Plate or maybe from a small round belt buckle. Keep making your videos my friend! You are doing a great service to all who watch! ;-)
I know you might have just used those as a demo of some gloves but those don't look very strong to me. They also look like sweat inducers. my advice spend a bit more and get some breathable work gloves with a C or D cut rating.
They are work gloves that tradesmen use up and down the whole UK. They are breathable and have a thin rubber protection on the palm and fingers. Cheap as chips too don't need to splash the cash to dig a hole mate
As a beginner,, not knowing whether you will like the detecting or not,, you are suggesting nearly a grand outlay on gear kit and equipment,, clearly you are sponsored and advertising for gain!! No amateur wanting to "test the water" should spend anything like the sort of money , on the basics,, nothing like it!! Shame on you, and a thumbs down from me!!
Thanks for the advice. I just got the Garrett 2020 special offer and saved 10% with your code. So thank you very much brother 👍 I've liked and subbed, and I'll be sure to eat h more of your videos

Cheers for the reply......we've got Moseley old hall near us where King Charles hid away from the roundheads.....always wondered what could be found in the woods near there....would a Garrett 250 be ok for starting up..
@Suffolk Sifter - Detectorist Thanks for the reply. I've never metal detected before and I'm looking at starting as a hobby. Living inland in West Yorkshire, would that make a difference on what metal detector you'd recommend at that budget? Just heard people saying it depends where you live with their recommendations sometimes.
@@SuffolkSifter You're right, thank you. I was going to go for the Apex but unfortunately the discount code didn't work on the Regton site, says coupon is not valid.
Hi I really appreciated you’re video and have liked and subscribed. I’m still in school so need something under 100 dollars if you can find something for me that’s great cheers
