Paddy, May I ask if you were high when you recorded the intro? Love the video, Ima whip up new top for my unit! I'll be buying the right size bit and cutting those holes on a ganged stack in the drill press. Thanks for your time and effort to show us your shop!
I’m designing a workbench at the moment and I’ve been struggling with the question whether to use 20 mm dog holes or the old school three quarter inch ones (19.08 mm), and here’s Paddy going “The only drill bit I had was a bit too large, but who cares, right?!??”
You could have easily clamped a fence on your drill press (with a piece of sacrificial wood underneath) and made perfectly spaced dog holes from the edge of each board.
Hi I also have a workmate 550 but having hard time finding parts for it. Is 550 model is the same as 425 type 3? I need the leg locking plastic pieces among other things.
@@bobkilmer697 Ah, I was looking for this answer too. I was able to find an OEM replacement from B&D that looks to be made from laminated bamboo for $68: www.ereplacementparts.com/vise-jaws-p-100623.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAlNf-BRB_EiwA2osbxWUpFZgL37NgW6nt6uqtysxca2lIHZcqChOjQo2I4rhTdSYJspEQVBoCBBkQAvD_BwE It cost a lot more than the one PaddyG made, but takes zero time and very few tools. ;-)
I was a the dump and picked up a 550 type 3 with no top and the plastic built was broken. Now I'm just trying to fix it up. But not real sure how it works to begin with haha just looking for some help
LOL, "fix it in a few years?" I worked for a chemical manufacture used that same saying, my understanding of that is "You don't have time to do it right, but we'll find time to do it over." (shakes head)
