He says, "they dont usually stick around too long" - about one of the most reliable diesel pickup truck engines ever produced, regularly seeing over 400k miles with proper maintenance.
Na. That truck got sold. Offer I couldn’t refuse. New 450 I just picked up has 4.33 and I love that ratio. The 2020 has 3.53 which is nice but has a ten speed.
@@BALDEAGLEDIESEL Gotcha. Seems to be all in how the truck is maintained. My dad had one for 330,000 miles, never replaced a thing on the engine other than a set of glow plugs. Got ran across country at high rpm , never consumed oil. Even keopt running and driving after getting t boned threw a telephone pole and rolled. just landed doing the ole 7.3 cha cha cha lol. they are turds like hell though, and his could have used uinjectors at 330,000 for sure. Most people drive them under theyre power band all the time and it disqusts me . because thats where theyre gutless reputation comes from .
It’s about to drop a valve, has a massive oil leak out of the top oil pan and leaks oil out of the turbo lines, has rust in the fuel system. Runs great but I want to put an s400 turbo on the truck and want a dependable engine that won’t mind the extra boost.
I am a fan of built 7.3s. Stock power 7.3s are boring, slow, and terribly inefficient in fuel usage. I do love the 7.3 for simplicity when working on it, reliability, and cost of replacement of the truck, engine, transmissions whatever is super cheap. I’m a common rail fan for sure but the 7.3 and more importantly the 6.0 will always have a spot in my parking lot.
