NEW TRAXXAS MAXX V2 First Run Thoughts, Overview, and Impressions 

BIG thanks to Fast Track Hobbies, my LHS, for the Killer inventory 🤗. Turns out I had a small shard of gravel jambed under the right steering post at the end. Props to my bash buddy John for the tip about it. Max8 and shock tuning done and she feels like a different truck 👀. Way more responsive with far better power!!!! Completely woke the truck up. Excited to get her dialed and back out once the storms pass. 🍻

One thing i like about the original max was the fact it was a small... its kinda just gone from a big 1/10 to a 1/8 scale size

I work at a parts store here in my lil factory town and we just got 3 in (authorized traxxas dealer) and I've got a red and black one on order, can't wait and already have a 4s max 8 combo at home in the box

Nice bash, my Maxx does the same with the front hubs popping that screw pin out but you just unscrew it and put it back and off to the races again. It is a fun truck to bash

Seems like it will be a blast to drive man. Congrats on the new rig I have mojave exb on the way my self. I run into rocks n debris jamming up the steering on every 3s arrma I have n I end up making some flaps on top bottom n one side of where the steering comes thru the front of the chassis to keep rocks out in the front openings of the chassis where the steering feeds through. I've used fake leather n even just duct tape folded over itself for them. It keeps stuff out n allows the steering to travel still. I've also heard of people putting pieces of sponge around the front of the servo area doing the same thing. Looks like its craving more air for sure haha unfortunately any Traxxas esc I've ever had was almost just cosmetic lol they crap out fast. That max 8 will be killer in it for sure. Just picked mine up this morning. I was hoping to grab a green one but Fast Track was out of green, so I got the blue one. Absolutely gorgeous.

Cool to see you rocking a mini maxx. I never ran stock electronics in my v1, or stock arms/tires. I threw a MMX/1515 2200kv in it and widemaxx arms out of the box. Then not long after, put a set of backflip lp's on traxxas 8671 wheels, really like those on it. I ran 4S in it at first, but the esc/motor ran hot to get the speeds I needed to clear some of my bmx jumps. Ended up going 6S with 20/54 gearing, now I have distance to spare even when just before LVC. On mine, the stock c-hubs would flex and allow the king pins to rip out of the front axle carriers. I put treal c-hubs on it and haven't had an issue since. I've broken a couple rear axle carriers in the past 5 months, but they are cheap, so I stick with stock. The servo saver is total mush in it, at least with BFLP's. I put the treal one on mine, traxxas tubes for tie rods and after frying the gears in the stock servo, I put a promodeler ds505blhv in it, but still run the BEC at 6V and it's plenty fast with more than enough torque to turn the tires lock to lock on carpet. I also modified my hinge pins but cutting a piece off each one and using a grub screw in the second hole to keep it from rotating. You can get the upgraded hinge pin kit which doesn't screw them in, just has retainer caps... I was just being cheap and worked with what I had. I just busted another front bulkhead on it Thursday (my 3rd so far). It was about 42F outside, so a tad cold for big air. Landed a couple nasty lawn darts. Also broke the front bumper mount and one of the front lower arms. Check out my latest video for my setup, it's in the description. Going to try GPM silver springs on the rear vs gold. I think the gold's might be a bit too stiff. I don't launch as big as you, but I'll get there one day! I'll likely end up with the v2 chassis next year to make it a bit less twitchy in the air. Just means I'll have to fork over another $80+ on a new unbreakable body... then the old body won't work for anything I got, which is kind of annoying... perhaps I can mangle it to fit it on something... will see.

Just ordered a WideMaxx, have pretty much every 8th scale Arrma and always wanted a Maxx but was hard finding packs here in UK for it, the new chassis is bit bigger and lets me fit CNHL packs, deffo replacing ESC with a Max8 or 6, and might get some backflip LP's to give a try on it

Awwwe man this run was magical to watch. I have been ripping my Maxx 4s for a year plus now it’s my go to because it’s never broken anything yet ( knock on wood) The steering c hub opens up and the pin can release in the front wheels like that. You need aluminum c hubs Mine has done it once on a hard crash 👍 Merry Christmas Sir 😉👊😎

Hi Rich, I am jungling between Maxx V2 and Arma Notorious V5 as their price is really close now at my local hobby shop. beside 4S and 6S differences, what else is really comparable? do you have experience in Notorious V5? which is more durable? what is your say between this two option? i have put a maxx 8 in my maxx v1 and i love it ! sometimes also a rock will get nudge in the bellcrank

I know it sounds overkill but I put a max 6 in my mini maxx. Also put the 4268 2600kv motor in it with a stock steel spur and 21 tooth RR pinion. Always ran solid!

Traxxas tough. You killed it. Off topic I want to thank you. I recently watched one of your older videos talking about how you truggified your Typhon. After watching that I was able to do mine. I had always just thought it was a tire swap. Typhon is by far my favorite rig.

Hell yea man throw the max 8 in to make all the difference as well as tuning those shocks, I’m running alum hubs on mine since the pin Ripped out just like yours did

Biggest issue I had with the v1 was always breaking the front and rear bulkheads got so sick of replacing them I got the aluminum ones, my esc also went out on my maxx

After my first test, I put a max 8 in it. Makes a big difference even on 4 s. I felt the same way, a little under powered. 👍 great bash, all ice here,,almost impossible to get big air. Awesome video! 👊

Hey man! Thanks for sharing this stuff, t really appreciate as always! I have the V1 and actually seems not so fast with the vxl4s.. I would like to swap a vxl6s and test it with 4/6s lipo. Traxxas esc aren’t fine for the price maybe.. ? At the same pricetag you can find hobbywing and I guess is other quality.. hogher of course.. what do you think man? Last thing: for the “bouncy attitude” in hard landing, which oil should be better inside maxx’s shocks? Thank you mate

Good luck getting that suspension tuned up that is the main reason that I ended up selling mine after pouring money into every possible upgrade you can do to the thing with the suspension would never sit right with me . Should be interesting to see what you end up doing to it been following your ex Maxx following right now

I know for mine I had to reset the endpoints on the transmitter and the ESC, as I had the same cut-out and cogging issues you did. After that, no problems. Great bash! And I love mine to death!

Nice rip! Huge front flip there! Pretty much agree with your experience on the stock truck, definitely needs some work. I hate those threaded hinge pins, I’m running the optional captured pins that the truck should’ve come with. Bash on my friend! 👍👊🚀

I guess the ESC was experiencing a temp cutoff? If it has those flaws and still needs to be upgraded, then the kraton 6s v5 would be a better choice for such price range..

That’s a good and bad about those plastic c hubs. Enough flex to where it’ll pop itself out and not just shatter and break itself.

Would you buy one of these or the typhon for you're first serious model?

Anyone that watches my channel knows I'm not a fan of the first maxx even with the wide kit, it needs so much work out of the box! It's just a strange car and this new version doesn't seem much different other than the length and new wheels🤔 It seems like your enjoying it though🤘

Nice video. I own Traxxas and Arma. Both are great. I think armas are in beast mode but break a lot. The Traxxas seem to have better builds while the arma has better esc.

My X-Maxx shuts down when I land a huge jump... have to power the ESC back on

I’m having same trouble with esc shutting down, traxxas uk blaming it on non standard traxxas batteries and using traxxas/ec5 connector adapter. Rich having same issue makes me think esc is no good.

The traxxas esc's sometimes just randomly shut off. I can recall several occasions where I've had to turn my esc's back on. Half the time it is literally just sitting there when it happens too. Usually leads to the red lights of death that these esc's are infamous for. Just put a max 8 in my maxx can't wait to rip on 6s to hell with the vxl4s

The problem with the ESC is that you are treating a Traxxas like an Arma. Drive the Traxxas like you would a $50 Walmart car and you'll have less breakages.

Sick rip, as always! the maxx is one of my favorite platforms. after i added the widemaxx kit a reefs raw 500 and old firma blx 6s system. She rips and she's been a little tank. one of my go to snowbashers. (I'm in maine) I've had very to little bearkage. can't wait to see the next shake down!

Max8 should really wake that sucker up. Stock ESC is anyhow best to retire out of the box. 6S and lower gearing should be better for runtime and battery than 4S high geared. Afterbounce looks like a new project for M2C AWESOME O-Rong Piston solution. C Hubs are known for ripped out screws. Definitely a good Platform kind a in between Outcast and old MAXX, so for many probably the perfect fit before going all out 6S with the Outcast. Can't wait to see how you dial her in 😘😘😘

You right rich, traxxas should just put 6s on the v2. Also some people are saying this maxx v2 have gear down one tooth on the pinion( from v1 24t down to v2 23t) For hard basher, you will need to upgrade to aluminum c hub, or the pin will keep coming out as you bash.

The esc cant handle the altitude.

An arrma blx 185 will bolt straight Into the stock esc bolt holes. Also a mamba monster esc will bolt straight into the stock esc location.

oh. wow. my HOSS had that same effin 'problem of the ESC turning off on impact. could never figure it out so it became kind of a boring road monster truck.
