Loved this. I used to live in and around Philly for many years. Looks great on your video, better than I remember it looking. I'm a new rider at 62 with 3000+ miles on a Honda Rebel 500 SE I started on last September. The perfect bike for me to start on but soon after I was wishing it more like 800cc with better handling. I started dreaming about that next bike. Always been attracted to many different bikes but mostly classics, some cruisers, some nakeds. Sold the Rebel early spring, test rode an Indian Scout Sixty and a Moto Guzzi V7 Stone 850. Really liked both. Thought I loved the Indian. Left deposit on it with lots of extras. Waited months for it to arrive during which time I started to doubt my choice for a few reasons. Cancelled it. Went back to the awesome dealer I got the Rebel to test ride a 2022 Triumph Trident yesterday and was blown away. Man I was high on adrenaline all day after the test ride. That's a sexy bike. Love the sound of that triple, the handling, brakes, throttle, transmission etc.... Whole lotta awesomeness after that Rebel but quite a bit taller especially with short legs. Turned out to be less of an issue than I imagined. I want to test it again this week back to back with a 2022 Street Twin which really might suit me more aesthetically and temperamentally. That triple and overall performance is going to egg me on to ride the way I probably shouldn't. ;-),
I WANT ONE... I've got my eye on a red 2023 Speed Twin 900 Chrome Edition. I hope to sell my Harley and buy the Triumph, no more Harleys for me, I've had my fill... If I buy the Speed Twin 900 I will also equip it with a Givi top box, but I will also add the brake light kit. I'm afraid the box hides the brake light and I do not want to be rear ended. I will also add a small windsceen, I'm OLD and a little spoiled. I will manufacture a couple of handles from the top shock bolts back to fasten on the bottom of the top box because my wife is crippled and needs the handles to get on the bike. Love the Bonneville line, and the Speed Twin 900 is my choice. Thanks for the video. Ride safe and enjoy every journey.
Hey Anthony, nice review. I have a 2017 ST. Love how it handles and is so well balanced and easy to ride. I live in West Chester, so I ride city streets (not as crazy as Philly's) and lots of Chester County rolling hilly country roads through farm lands - it handles both so well. I've heard the squeaky breaks comments before but my brakes have never once squeaked which I find interesting.
Hey Peter! Thanks for the comment, I notice the brakes only squeak at low speeds in the city with light pressure on the lever. I’ve been thinking about riding the backroads of Chester county soon, maybe we can go for a cruise!
Great video! You’re spot on with this. I’m finishing up a 6 month review video on my ST and I have a few of the same disadvantages. Squeaky front brakes. It was bought brand new. The heat. Because I’m shorter, my legs sit closer as well and I have to be careful! Overall, this bike has been the best. Perfect for learning to ride and experienced riders love it too.
Glad you enjoyed the review, I look forward to how you put your review together. This bike is an absolute 🍑. My scrambler 1200 is hot AF too so that’s universal across the Bonny line of euro 5 bikes. I don’t love it but I can live with it because there is so many good things going for these bikes. Thanks for reaching out!
Finally someone who did a review of the bike I’m looking at 😂 Everyone seems to just do walk arounds or rides with just music. I love hearing how the bike sounds and also the negatives….thanks!! I’m a newer rider, and I just can’t not look at the Triumph classics. At 5’10 and 230 I think this bike would be a lot of fun. Thoughts??
This is a really great beginner bike in terms of power. It’s a bit much for a beginner in terms of weight. But if you weight 230 I don’t think that would apply to you nearly the same. My girlfriend weights 100 pounds less and she handles it just fine overall. I would say if you have the budget to buy this compared to other less expensive rivals it’s great. But if you want to save money you can get a royal enfield for half the price with similar riding characteristics. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Hi mate, I have a StreetTwin in Australia. I heard that over here, Triumph is going to change the name to Speed 900. Also change the Street Scrambler to Scrambler 900. It's a cool bike, I really enjoy owning it 👍
I just caught wind about the name changes with the 900’s, sounds silly to me. I like the street twin, it’s unique. But triumph is awesome so I guess they can do whatever they want and I will still buy the bikes. Happy riding down under!
It’s my girlfriends bike so I take it easy on her baby. Plus we were still breaking it in at this point. But trust me, it’s fun to ride more spirited when the opportunity presents itself.
I really like the Bonnie line. The quality is way better than Triumphs own bikes like the Tiger 800 I had. I was thinking the other day it's kind of like riding a Rolex. There is metal where most other brands would be plastic.
Nice review! I tried that bike, gorgeous, but I found it to be a bit slow to lean to. I mean its great for a classic, just wish it was a quicker leaning bike. I still want to buy it one day:))
Just traded my 2019 street twin after 3yrs, it was a v.likeable, torquey bike, much improved over the less powerful model, pre 2019. I never had squeaky brakes! Would copper slip help your bike? Anyway, aft 3yrs, fancied a change... Saw the the new trident 660 and traded, got a sweet deal, lighter reviver, its a tripple so, completely different character. Both fine bikes!
I wonder if the brake just need to break in or somthing. We bought it brand new. Anyway my gf has a huge crush on the trident. She wants that to be her next bike too, thanks for the feedback, I want to get out and test ride a trident now. Im so curious about the triple feel.
nice video!! Do you also feel the bike resists a lot when cornering? is it because of the tires? It has a tendency to miss the line and go wider in twisties..
I really feel that a pair of radial tires would help n the corners. We are going to put some on the street twin in the coming months. When I do, I will post a video about it and let you know what I think about the difference in cornering ability.
I test rode it. acceleration is a blast. however vibrated around 90kph. I am 5'9" and legs felt cramped, bent too much from knees. In terms of performance, RE interceptor 650 is not far behind. But RE quality is far behind triumph, on the other hand interceptor costs 1/3rd of this one making super value for money.
You have good points here. My girlfriend is 5’3” so it fits her better than it does me at 6’. The highway does get buzzy but around the city it’s a blast! Happy riding!
The inability to filter trough traffic, especially at traffic lights, makes riding motorcycles absolutely frustrating in the US imo. Basically you get the worst of both worlds: the vulnerability of a motorcycle, and the slow pace of car traffic.
I love my 2020 ST. I have the same color (ironstone). I added the Triumph's bar-end mirrors and heated grips (highly recommend those heated grips). I am looking forward to upgrading the tires. I haven't had issues with them but everyone seems to hate them and says it changes the ride totally when you upgrade the tires. Not sure what kind I'll get: Scorpion Trail 2? Metzeler? Conti Road Attack 3?
I will definitely look into heated grips next fall, we just ordered tires from the dealer. Went with the metzler roadtec 01 radial tires. Haven’t got them in yet, but when I do I’ll make a follow up video about my impressions. The dealer recommended these tires and also said we can even go fatter in the back if we want. We just to stay with the same width, but just saying it’s an option. I’m looking forward to riding the bike with new tires!
Hi! Nice video! I have also one ST. I have one question. Where did you buy the base which is mounted above the roof rack. I have a luggage rack but I would like to mount a top box on. Thank you if you can give me this kind of information.
The Givi e251 universal hase plate can be mounted on most racks. That’s what we use for our Givi monokey top boxes. If you get a mono lock top box it will require a different base plate. FYI
Hey anthony, i just ran across your channel and like your videos. Im planning on moving to philly soon and also want to get a motorcycle. Do you think its safe to ride in the city? And also concerened should i be about it possibly getting stolen?
Great questions and I feel like I have thought about both these subjects a lot while helping my girlfriend learn to navigate the city. First I’ll touch on theft, nice bikes get stolen more than other bikes. Going with my Honda shadow for years I never had any trouble but my buddy with a CBR 600rr had his bike stolen. Next up is it safe to ride in Philly? Well the way I explain it to people is, are you comfortable riding a bicycle in the city? Trust me it’s not always pleasant. If you can navigate the city streets on a bike the motorcycle will not feel any more scary. The average speed limit in Philly is 25mph so I find it’s a great place to ride a motorcycle. My girlfriend had ridden bicycle in the city for years and the motorcycle was an easy transition for her. She just had to learn to operate the bike, in example the manual transmission. After that she was having a blast:)
TCX Dartwood WP Shoes, I’ve had them for a couple years and I really like them. They are my go to for vomiting because I love the side zipper to get in and out of them quickly.
