The Triumph Speed Twin 900 review. This is the freshly badged version of the once named Triumph Street Twin.
Is it just Triumph’s budget modern classic, or is that unfair?

Great review again Freddie! I went from a T100 to a T120 back to a 900cc engine in the Street Scrambler. My personal experience is that the 900 twin is more fun and playful to ride with without sacrificing too much power on the longer straights. One thing to add to your review that could be a benefit to potential buyers of the Street Twin: it does come with tubeless tires I contrast to the rest of the bunch!

You are joking! The 900 is totally pitiful in a straight line - not even vaguely close to the 1200 which isn't exactly a rocketship.
@radekknauer2891
@radekknauer2891 Год назад
@@LondonSteveLee I don't think OP meant that 900 isn't much lower on power than 1200, I think he just meant overall 900 has enough power not to feel slow on long straights. 1200 is no rocketship either compared to other fast bikes on the market, but realistically you're not using all that power anyway.
@LondonSteveLee
@LondonSteveLee Год назад
@@radekknauer2891 I disagree, I rode a 900 street scrambler (had a 1200 XE at the time) normal everyday cars could make my life difficult at highway speeds - ie if Mr Ford Focus or whatever decided he didn't want to be overtaken, he could just squeeze the throttle and I'd be screwed whilst thrashing the nuts off the 900 - it's just plain slow - very characterful and lovely around town - but a liability on the open road through lack of power. Yo had some chance on the 1200 and yes I know there are not fast hence my "not a rocketship" comment.
@radekknauer2891
@radekknauer2891 Год назад
@@LondonSteveLee that's depending on a person I guess and their expectation. 900 should be able to have a high top speed (real world conditions, speed limits exceeded) and pretty good acceleration. You might have to click through the gears, but that's part of the fun. I know 100+ hp can place you where you don't have to think about gears and you're pretty much the fastest thing around without even trying, but that's sort of boring. It's totally subjective though.

I cannot stress enough how capable these bikes are. I took mine across Europe and up and down Pyrenees mountains and it took it all in its stride. I had a pillion passenger and combined over 100L of luggage, yet it has so much grunt that I didn't even notice it. It may be entry level but this is up there for what it costs. I love this review. I own a 2022 Triumph Street Twin which is exactly the same bike with a different name. To put things in perspective, I'm 73 years old and my first motorcycle when I was 18 was a 1962 Triumph Bonneville. While my first Triumph was wonderful, it had many issues. The 2022 model, on the other hand, is everything my first bike should have been. When I went to my dealer I took a test ride and that was all it took. The style, the sound and the comfort immediately impressed my and I traded in my KTM 390 Duke. Everything in this review is true and accurate. If you enjoy riding a motorcycle simply for the joy of riding, there is no better motorcycle than a Triumph Bonneville.

I am seventy one years old. I havent ridden a bike since the late 70s and even then was only a 400cc twin Honda. My question to you is ..............do you think that this could be the bike for me. Over three months I have eliminated every bike except the street twin and the Honda Hornet. I am leaning towards the Triumph as it has a lower centre of gravity and seat height due to my short legs

@@ben9l351 Hi Ben9 L. In response to your message I've owned a Triumph Street Twin since December 2021. With the exception of one issue, a faulty fuel pressure regulator, the bike has been wonderful. I ride it almost every day. I'm now 74. I'm short legged my inseam is only 29 inches but I can stil flat foot both feet on the Triumph. Also, the motor produces lots of low end torque so it has never stalled on me when taking off. I'm now approaching 6,000 miles on the bike and every day is an adventure even in Las Vegas where I live. Before the Triumph I owned a KTM 390 Duke, which was OK but didn't have anywhere near the character of the Triumph. Also, I have a weak left hand due to an accident many years ago but the Triumph clutch lever is very easy to pull. In conclusion, you can't go wrong with this bike in my opion. Take a test ride or rent one for a day. You'll never look back. Bruce

Well guys, I'm 79 yrs old now, and my first motorized bike was a '55 Cushman Eagle. I've ridden old Triumphs, BSA, Nortons, and 1 HD Sportster. I quit riding because I spent more time repairing the bikes than riding. I started again with a '78 Yamaha 1100 X (fabulous bike). Now, at my last ride, I'm going to try the "entry" level Triumph, cross country, one last time. You can watch my tail lights...

Since 2018 I'm the owner of a Street Twin 2016 (the first version, matt black, 55 hp) and this machine has 38.000km (~24.000 miles) on its clock now. It was my dream bike, it is still my dream bike and it will be my dream bike. I've replaced only the mirrors against bar end mirrors and the original crapy Pirelli Phantom tires against the far far better Avon Spirit ST. But I see, Triumph has learned. The new version has other (hopefully better) tires.

Hi Freddie, Great review. I have the last of the Street Twin 900, picked it over the T100 because of price, weight and 4 piston calliper front breaks. I have a 2021 T100 and it's lovely. We did look at the "Street Twin" as it was called then but decided on the T100 for it's extra bling etc. Also, the seat is a bit longer on the T100 which provides slightly more room for a pillion, We also tested the T120 but the 900 cc bikes handled more sweetly thanks to the single disc providing less gyroscopic mass. The fuelling on the 900cc bikes is much better too, thanks to the single throttle body. OK, they have one gear less (5) and some say they sound a bit "busy" at motorway speeds, but at 70mph it's running at 3500 rpm which is the perfect torque sweet spot so economy is really good.

Great to see you review the street twin Freddie, I bought this 4 months ago as my first full licence motorbike. I've got it in jet black which to me is the best looking version and I have to say I'm in love with it. To me this is my dream motorbike with the perfect amount of power for me. Although it was a bit of a stretch for me to afford I just went for it. My only problem with it is that I worry about keeping it perfect too often, which can subtract from my enjoyment. I must simply get past that and just enjoy it, I have many great trips planned on it for the spring and summer. Take care!

Nice to hear an experienced Triumph rider's view on the ST900. I've got one arriving in just under 2 weeks - the 24MY competition green/phantom black version. At test ride I was amazed at how low down the weight is carried and the torque gives you most of what you would ever need as a 'medium speed' rider. I tried to get a ST1200 at the worst possible period (as they were changing from Euro 4 to 5 and around covid time). I couldn't get one up here in the frozen north, so bought an 1100 Ducati Scrambler as - what proved to be - a stop gap. Three years later I am (almost) going back to plan A.......the difference being I now have a Z900RS as well, so don't necessarily need the extra power of the 1200. The ST900 saved me a chunk of money and had a very low 'price to change' part-exing the Ducati. I'm hoping for many nice runs out on this. Keep the videos coming Freddie, your style is very nice and different to many, making them all worth watching. Good luck with the Bonny rebuild!

Mines a 2018 Street Twin, all standard apart from centre stand, flyscreen, power socket, rack & topbox - all OEM. Absolute joy to ride on any road. Downside - the main loom has a tendency to pinch & chaff on the left hand side of the headstock which I have managed to rectify on mine by filing back the rear of the headlamp bracket & cable tying the loom into a better position. Have heard of some bikes suffering total electrical failure due to this, worth checking if you own one.

Uh oh...veering in my mind towards "back in the day" when we grew up on Honda SL100s and Suzy TS125s and graduated to 250s. The madder and monied teens bought Yammy 360s...and the insane Kawasaki 500s. Then Honda 500s and one mate a 500/4. 900cc beyond imagination. Until we saw a Kawi 900. Our jaws dropped. And bought the cheapest cars we could...cos life. I'd take changing gears constantly, and light handling any time over occasionally cumbersome. No matter the distance. Travel safe guys. I was looking to buy a t120 when I saw the matte ironstone 900 ST and started looking at that instead. I ended up buying the 900 and I agree with your assessment on it over the T120. That 6th gear and maybe cruise control are thr only things I feel I’m missing out on. But it’s also nitpicking in my opinion.

Thank you Freddie! I love my Twin 900 so much. It has got so much range, such useable power and build like a Rolex watch. It won't break any speed records, but it gives me the most joy to ride out of all my motorcycles. My longest ride was 900km on a single day, without getting tired. Can't say that about my Tiger 660.

I got a Trident 🔱 660 & thinking 🤔 about selling it to mate you offered good money & buying a new Speedtwin 900.The 1200 is to much money for me to buy outright I don't like being in debt & also I heard 1209 is a bit snatchy around town.I can get a new 900 outright run in it myself from 0kms & also the 14kg weight difference over T100. Could get a second hand 1200 Speedtwin but I would rather have a brand new 900 & run it in gently my way & know the history.My country only has 100kmh open speed limit so 900 more than enough with alot in reserve.I also prefer lighter bike after breaking both ankles & 3 discs in my back si forward controls are out of the question so is T120. T100 is a nice bike but only had 2pot Brembo front brake & have to remove rear muffler to do chain maintenance.The Speedtwin has upswept pipes & has the 4pot Brembo front brake & 14kg lighter.I do like the Trident 🔱 660 & is very comfy bike & nice to ride especially with quick shifter but I like modern classics better & want to get back on one after having Interceptor before Trident.Triumph quality is fantastic also & the stock Speedtwin sounds great.

Great review! I went from a 150cc minibike as my learner to a 2019 Street Twin as my big bike. Love it to bits, and so happy I decided on it. Out of all the bikes I looked at, I feel like this "entry level" Bonneville is exactly what a modern day motorcycle should be: Classy, classic, just the right amount of powerful, comfortable, reliable. For everything else, there's all the other equally stunning and strong Bonnevilles. But for me, if there was one motorcycle left on earth, it oughta be a Street Twin, still purring and going strong.

I ride an Africa Twin 1000. In summer i went to a Triumph test ride, and tired one of these. Well, it's incredibly fun. In future it's highly probable that i'll have a lot less time to ride a bike, so i will probably 'downsize' to a bike like this one. Fun, relatively light for back roads, yet fast. I would put a touring windshield, a rack and some givi hardware, and could potentially do the same things i do with the AT. Oh, and the torque is incredible for such a bike.

Best things about this bike (for me) would be 1) low seat height, 2) low end torque, 3) style. Wishlist for next update: 1) dash like the Trident's (digital speedo and "analogue" tach), 2) shed some weight. I'm also intrigued by the Honda Hornet which has similar performance for less money and is not hideous compared to most of the so-called "retro" naked bikes.

It may fall into the budget class but for most riders it's more than enough. And the pillion passenger is not fogotten either with thoughtfully ergonomic seat and cunningly designed food rests with their well-designed clicky ball bearings! Monika seemed more enthusiastic about this bike than e,g, the Harleys of this world especially as she is no longer perched at a seemingly precarious back seat high and has the added reassurance of having the foot rests click as they are moved into position. I liked the sound of the engine and the obvious balance of this bike - obviously well designed and screwed together,

I had a 2018 the older model Street Twin. They upgraded it in 2019, Now the upgrade is just a name change. I chose the Street Twin, it was the best price, As my first bike in 30 years. I was a little concerned by the 900 which to me back in the day was a big bike. Much bigger than my last bike. I really like the bike it reminded me of the bikes I used to ride back about 1980's. rather than a 1960 I liked the tubeless mag wheels. I liked the exhaust rather than the pea shooter T style. The one on the floor was red had some extra bling i dint really care about and was available right away. So I left with it. The high torque is important. Its very easy to ride and very forgiving of mistakes. Only 5 gears. not really a problem, It took me three years to max out the throttle in 5th. I plead the 5th of actual speed and location. In any location I ride most was certainly not socially acceptable. Loads of real world power at legal and reasonably sane speeds. Anytime you want it just twist and go. I rode 500mile days regularly. Because it was fun. I never felt the need to upgrade. It was my bike I was happy. Some SOB stole it this summer. and wrecked it. Finding a good used one is hard they sell quickly. They are popular for a reason. I got a good settlement because they hold tier value well. Hard to decide what to replace it with. Same again? Other classic? None of the others just quite fit my budget or desire. Down side of the 900 I was in the same insurance bracket as a R1000. The 1200 Speed Twin is in the next one up which is even worse. Engine size, Insurance doesn't make sense. In the end I decided to try something completely different. I really liked the Street Twin. It was fantastic just round town or my rural country roads. My wife seams to accept the idea of me getting a replacement classic. When I have the spare cash. A Street or Speed Twin 900 is the front runner for what I want. 90% of the time. In the meantime, I have to make do with a just used GS. If budget limits rule get a BSA or RE. They are much cheaper to by and insure. I will wait until I can get a Speed Twin 900. The T'900 is very very similar, slightly taller, more expensive version.

I spent 2 years before C19, touring Spain with campervan & Street Twin. Great fun. I traded the Stret Twin for a Speed Twin. Different bike altogether. Being 5'6" and of mature years, I find the Speed a bit tall & a bit heavy, brilliant bike tho. I missed the Street Twin, so I've bought a 2016 model to play with, intend to bling it up ready for summer. So when the sun shines I'm lucky to have the choice of 2...!

Was getting a bit worried about you Freddie, waxing lyrical ... just listen to that clic...and caressing the bike like, well the love of your life. Except she was operating the camera.!! ..A friend has just purchased this model, swopping it from a T120. He hasn't attributed so much poetic language on it but he has told me how great it is. l must say L think the twin clocks layout is better than the large dial cluster, however, overall l believe Triumph are still the Classic to aspire to if only for the build quality. We both ride the wonderful 'biker friendly' roads of España... Great review and tastefully photographed as always... Feliz Navidad de España

I love the speed twin 900 but i got the T120 instead because i carry my fiance 95% of the time on my rides which includes a lot of daily commutes and occasional touring. But if i didn't carry pillion as much i would have definitely gone for speed twin 900. T120 can feel really jerky if you're riding alone in the lower gears and that can be a slight discomfort when riding around with a lot of traffic and lane filtering in tight spaces.

Interesting video Freddy, the 900 would make a great commuter bike but the the better allrounder for me would be the 1200 Speed Twin albeit at the higher price, you’d buy the 900 but later wish you’d bought the 1200 in the first place.
