They are using these in aircraft as well. At least 2 are using it now with more on the way. Google Subsonix jet.

Hi, turboshaft and turboprop versions are not currently planned.

They probably had to balance the design with cost. More stages = more cost. If the Combination of a single axial and single centrifugal stage is good enough efficiency and keeps the cost down, that might be preferred for the clientele they're designing for. Looks like it would be well suited to low cost surveillance drones/UAVs as well as cruise missiles. So low cost at the loss of some efficiency is probably a balance required by their useage.

@@Bearthedancingman Yes, but they made a newer, more powerfull now with like 4 axial compressor stages and only 1 turbine stages, that's already too much, and even if more turbine stages add complexity at least they are more powerfull for their size, so you can make a smaller engine with the same power so is not waay more expensive + with one stage they have only a rotor, with two they could incorporate a stator between them, for a very big boost in power and efficiency. And then it would be viable even for general aviation
