Version 4.5 started last week, which means we have entered the second half of the Fontaine cycle. As you're aware, the Fontaine cycle will end with version 4.8, which will be released in the later part of July. However, a major change could be coming to the release order of upcoming Fontaine characters, as one of them may experience an unfortunate delay.
Yes, Hoyoverse could be swapping out one of the currently unreleased Fontaine characters in favor of Sethos, an upcoming playable character.
As you know, we are getting Arlecchino as a playable character in version 4.6, and according to various sources, Clorinde and Sigewinne are expected to be released as playable characters in version 4.7. Emilie, the perfume designer from Fontaine, was earlier expected to be playable in version 4.8, but now, things seem to have changed as she is missing from the latest banner data.
"According to reliable sources called Mero & Blednaya, Emilie will not become playable in version 4.8. Instead, Sethos will be released as a playable character in 4.8. For those who don't know who Sethos is, he is an upcoming character who will appear during Cyno's second story quest and play a major role. Not much is known about Sethos other than the fact that he uses a bow as his weapon. But looking at his current model, I'm guessing he will be a 4-star Geo or Dendro character. But It's just a guess. His concept art depicts him as a medium male model with white hair and desert clothing, but his final model lacks the cat ears from Sethos' earlier design."
Given that the new Artifact Set in Version 4.6 buffs the Burning Elemental Reaction, I'm hoping that Sethos will be a Dendro 4-Star support for Cyno. Dendro is still missing an element applicator like Xingqiu or Yelan, so this could potentially be a valuable niche that Sethos could provide.
Earlier speculation had suggested the Burning Artifact Set as being tailor-made for Emilie, but the recent information about the remaining playable characters has put a question mark on that theory.
If he indeed turns out to be a 4-star character, that means Sigewinne's chances of being a 5-star character will automatically increase. There has been this debate ever since Fontaine was released last year, whether Sigewinne is a 4-star character or a 5-star character. So if Emilie is not coming in 4.8, and Sethos turns out to be a 4-star character, Hoyoverse might release Sigewinne as a 5-star character in version 4.8, because there's no way we're getting two 5-star characters in version 4.7.
But these are just speculations, so don't take them as fact. But Emilie not being playable in Fontaine is a statement made by reliable sources. First Dahlia, then the prison girl, then the mummy girl, and now Emilie, I have no idea what's going on in Hoyoverse's mind right now.
