Nah I think the new XC60, XC90, S90 and V90 already made volvo cool. This one's design is not really for my taste. But volvo needs to make a sports coupe version of the s90. I've seen some concepts and it would look really good.

I as a German sometimes get asked if I believe German cars are the best and I always answer that while we have incredibly beautiful cars for sure the Swedish are just as amazing and especially their safety equipment is insane

The Jag looks like a cheaper, plainer version of its bigger brother. This looks different from the bigger SUVs and actually goes into a more playful and sporty look. It΄s smaller but doesnt look cheaper like the Jag does.

I really love Volvo, the cars are just so beautiful from the inside and outside.

Why does he keep saying its bad when the car gets loud when you rev it? Mostly you won't be revving it and it will be quiet, but when you want some fun it's actually cool to hear the engine roaring

I just went yesterday to try it out after visiting VW / Seat / BMW / Toyota / Audi and it was surpisingly good. As a 196 cm tall guy it was by far the best SUV on comfort level but also felt great on quality and what was also surprising is that the base version just lacks some features of the Rdesign which I sure won't use so base version is still great for me... that here is my next car gents...

No leg room review or boot space - how is this possible??

The blind spot is quite bad but there is blis in the wing mirrors to show you where there is something in your blind spot also the thing in front of the armrest is a bin that you can remove and empty also you didn’t mention the wireless phone charging or the clever airwoofer instead of the normal subwoofers you’d get in any other cars that’s why you have massive door bins

Not very happy with the review... Where is the annoying things and cool things part and the practically part was not clear enough. It was like you were in a hurry.

It's a pretty good size & height for around town driving, parking. Have to come with a reversing camera. Definitely go for the 190kw diesel /manual combo. Shame it means losing 4wd/AWD.

Haha, the autobox gearshift is very Swedish: I'm used to it from coaches. The double click is for safety reason, the up and down shift is very easy to use. No probs for prof drivers...

I like it a lot, though not in this colour combo. The Jaguar is perhaps better looking but the reviews so far on the Jag are none too good. This one makes my short list for a new car next year.

Mat cone on get with it. The gear thing. Say you start in N. Push forward to drive.. then you will have to pull or push twice to get into the opposite direction as the first push puts you into N again the second push puts you into drive or reverse depending on which you want.

The ONLY cool Volvo is Volvo P1800

Wow, quite some praise there, compared to the competition. I agree with the thicker pillows diminishing the rear view BUT in this case, the C-pillar is meant to cover the shoulder area in case of lateral collision, so safety beats design.

Good review. Have been excited about the XC40 for sometime now. The comment about the gear made me think twice about it.

Volvo's take at the Audi Q2

I think the shifter is interesting. Always refreshing with quirks. Once is so old and boring anyway. If you think about it... That extra push/pull is like the neutral on manual gear box. But instead of going from 1st to 2nd in one move you push/pull an extra time between D and R. The manual shifting I can get behind a little more but still think it's fine enough, I've actually had it setup like that on driving simulators so I would be totally fine with it. As you go in a down-right motion when realeasing the wheel & reach for the stick, it's actually more natural to shift up to the right because of the momentum, so you push with the backside of your hand. Shifting down by going down-right (wheel to stick) then left (shift) is not that different from down-right (wheel to stick) then down (shift), just a smal direction change (OMG! WE'RE DOOMED!). People are too damn spoiled and comfortable, even those who grew up when driving cars took some work as there wasn't all these computer systems doing everything and all you basically have do is to gas/break and turn... And even that can be assisted or completely handled by the car today. And it's a preference thing, but that complaint on the paddles come on now. I guess carbon or titanium feels cheap and fragile too. Thin and light is not synonymous with being cheap and fragile (like crackers as you put it). You don't really think Volvo would put just any cheap stuff in a £27+ thousand pound car do you? I almost want to disclaim this comment. I'm an expressive and poking person at times.

It looks like a Peugeot 3008 (last year's winner) I own a 3008 GT and it's awesome. Matt's reviews are very good, I wonder how he would compare the two

Volvo already was cool and has been for a long time - 850R, V70R, V60 R design etc... it was one of the few doing hot wagons which ultimately makes it rock

It's properly good looking, fresh and takes the "edge" design so much better than on the Audi Q2. Love the interior, it's got a very natural, relaxing feel to it. That automatic shifter is weird and not very intuitive. Jaguar E-Pace definitely the best and most appealing.

I think this is the best in it's class, I'm not much of a fan of these mini-SUVs as I think they all tend to be much of a muchness, it would be a close call between this and the Jag.

Volvo is a chic make now. Please no more Volvo is boring or boxy or conservative or other well outdated notions. The SPA and this CMA Volvos are now chic alternative-Euro cars. Viewed that way, they're worth a look. Please don't compare them to the serious Germans, Volvo has a different philosophy and execution. Some of it overlaps with Germans, some depart.

Very Toy Like...

Volvo has been cool pretty much always...except for the Ford owned period, those were terrible. Great looking car, very unique and a bit quirky. I love it.
